  • Learn all about hooking up RV sewer and water with Erin while she does it for the first time! We share inside and outside duties pretty evenly, but this is the one thing she hasn't done yet. She did an awesome job and learned a ton along the way, so follow along and maybe you'll pick up a few new things too!

    THanks so much, Erin. I am a solo RVer just starting out and after driving my Class C home 140 miles, the next anxious moments will be doing the hook up the first time. I have heard others say to keep black tank closed but they never said exactly why - it makes so much sense and I will never forget. My first trip is for 4 nights in a wonderful campground 7 miles away and DIL and SIL are tent camping with me so he can help with anything I forget. Thanks again.

    Erin, you did a fantastic job! I don’t understand why people feel they have to comment on a “woman’s job” or a “man’s job.” What difference does it make as long as the two who are doing the work are happy with what they do. My husband does most of the outside work and I do most of the inside and we are okay with that. Y’all do your thing and don’t worry about what others think. We love your channel. Keep up the great videos!

    Love your entertainment with education. Running the water through the hose to get the air out us a great idea. I would add a brass valve to the end of the hose so you can shut it off right there, connect to the elbow, and turn it on without having to go back to campsite valve.

    Good Job, Erin! We have had our rig 8 1/2 yrs and I have never hooked up our sewer, water or power. LOL I don't do the slides either. Hubby wants to make sure they are done right, so those are his jobs. He usually hooks up the power, levels the rig and opens the slide then goes out to hook up water and sewer, if needed (just 2 of us, so if we are just a day or 2, we wait) and I will put down the rugs, set up the kitchen and bedroom and set up the things we pack in the sinks for travel. I am usually starting a meal too. I guess I need to try the water & sewer at least once too. LOL HUGS~Donna

    Thank you for the great video. I just got a new RV about six months ago and can easily dump the tanks when I exit the campground at the dump stations. I am going to a campground soon that has a sewer hookup and despite reading and watching videos, I was not totally clear on how to hook up the tanks at the campsite. Now I know, thanks to you. I am a solo camper and the tanks are never full, so my assumption is that if not full, go ahead and flush the toilet enough times so that the black tank is closer to full and only dump it when I am ready to head home. Maybe I will even use the shower in my rig instead of using the shower at the campground! Erin and Brian - thank you.

    Just watched your video on hooking up the sewer. We are subscribers and watch and enjoy all your videos. I am a nurse and did notice one thing though. When Erin had on her gloves, she pulled her shirt down twice after touching the dirty stuff. You have to be aware what you touch with your gloves as to not contaminate other things. Other than that thought she did awesome. I'm probably just over reacting because I'm a nurse. It would probably be more important to be aware of contamination when you are disconnecting the sewer. Keep up the good work guys!!

    I always close the gray valve the last day to save some water in it to use as a hose flush before disconnecting. I also do a long flush in the toilet so there is extra water to help empty the black tank.

    Speaking of roles: I remember asking my grandmother once about that (she did all the usual stuff people think about when it comes to "roles" like cooking cleaning inside, etc.) and asked her why grandpa did all the outside stuff and she didn't, and she gave me an incredulous look and said, "Why the hell would I want to do that stuff!" OK grandma.
    Except her garden. If grandpa touched that, he'd get a spade in the face. and on family get togethers, he'd push her out of the kitchen saying, "I am making my favorite raisin carrot salad!" And grandma stepped aside.
    Now that you think about it, they mixed quite a few things, but were also very traditional, and both were perfectly happy with it. Her mother (my great granny) was literally part of the first (and real) women's independence movement, the right to vote. I came from a very "modern" family, and they still had no problems with one person doing certain things and the other doing other things. I never got why people were so OC about "roles" they both never even saw it that way.
    And that carrot raisin salad was pretty dang good.

  • @brianvandy4002

    We would leave gray water open then close it a couple of days before we drain the black. That gives us plenty of gray water to 'rinse' the hoses with after the black is dumped. If the tanks were empty and we were only staying three days like you are, we'd leave them both closed. Of course it's just two of us, so you may only need a day of gray water for the rinse with 5 of you.

    • @Five2Go
      @Five2Go  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We can easily fill grey in 2 or 3 days with five people 😂 I do regularly close grey a night or two before moving day so we have flush water - that's actually why that hose was so clean, because I had just done that earlier that morning at another campground.

    We picked up our Bounder 36f last week, and I have learned a lot from watching this video! One question - the gentleman that did our walk-through recommended that we not leave the gray tank open (especially here in Florida)as there is a likelihood of water bugs getting into your gray tank. We are planning to open them only when doing a load of laundry, and of course when we need to empty the tank.

    • @Five2Go
      @Five2Go  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You'll be fine leaving gray open. We've spent about a year total in Florida over the last 4 years and haven't had any issues. Emptying black is annoying enough, but grey fills up WAY faster.

    Great video! My husband always does ours and I’ve said I need to learn “just in case”. Loved watching you do it Erin :-) A couple of questions for you…You mentioned that you don’t thread your hoses onto themselves when travelling due to mold. We always do it so we don’t have water leaks in our storage area. Is mold a real concern with the way we’re doing it?? Also, I was surprised that you keep the gray tank open. We keep it closed until after we empty and then flush our black tank. That way the soapy water can be used to wash our black hoses. Is there a reason you keep them open? Thanks!

    Great Job Erin!! Gender rolls are thrown off when you have 2 women traveling together. I’m waiting for someone to call me the man.... haha. But, with all that being said, i do most of the outside stuff, water, sewer and electric. My better half likes to do the rugs, chairs and tables so they look ‘right’. But i love the way we set everything up, it’s perfect. You guys work great together, i think that’s the key. Anyway, great video..

    Great job Erin!
    Just dumped my tanks but had a major malfunction. My sewer hose detached from the connectors about 1/2 way through. Let’s just say. My shoes and socks went into the trash at the dump and l washed my feet and spayed disinfectant all over them. Showered as soon as I got home. Once I get a new sewer hose I will finish dumping the tanks. Hopefully it won’t happen again.

    I get the “he has his way”, since Hubs retired & I work full time, he does the cooking & house stuff. I’ve had to learn to let him do it his way because as long as it gets done it’s fine. Unless he puts my 3D Tigger mug in the dishwasher then that’s not good.
    We share the stuff at the campsite too, I can put the tent up myself, well, the old one, the new one is a two person set up, he needs my help too.

When did we get to a place in this world, where we care so much about other people's chores or "roles" in there family lol like I don't understand why people would comment on that. Kudos to you guys for putting up with people who think their opinion matters to you lol

    I am a nurse, so here is my comment about gloves -- you wear them so your hands do not get dirty, but the outside of the gloves will get dirty -- so be careful about wiping your hair away or pulling your shirt down with your gloves on. If you end up using more than one pair of gloves -- that is fine.
