If the O-Line is "Pretty Good" why was Justin Herbert always running for his life and hurried and hit and even injured? Why was there NEVER a running lane for any RB we tried? I don't think the O-Line was all that good.
Worst run blocking oline in the league but think the protection plan was a big problem too. Herbert was under prrssure at nearly 60% in at least 3 games, no QB can operate under that amount of pressure every dropback.
Jim will immediately bring toughness, physicality, and organization to the Chargers. I've watched him at all his stops beginning with Stanford. What he did with the 49ers was incredible. Saved Alex's career. Jim's this weird mix of a former QB with a defensive mentality. Sometimes he is behind the times with his offensive identity but overall this is a GREAT hire.

He just beat Saban with 2 5 star players compared to Saban having almost 20. There's a reason Urban Meyer and Nick Saban are college coaches and not NFL coaches. You can't just out-talent 98% of the teams you face in the NFL.

Timing is everything for Kellen Moore. Dave Canales just got a HC opportunity where Moore isn't even mentioned for an oc job yet. Last year he would've been a HC candidate.
One thing that many fail to realize is that this roster not as talented as it seems to be. OL is behind average.. they really have one star player who is Slater and all the other guys are subpar.. they had Lindsey who made this OL much better than what it was but unfortunately he is gonna retire. Ekeler is limited- doesn’t have outbreak speed and is not a powerhouse back. He is a discounted CMC but not elite like CMC. They don’t have a star TE. Everett is okay but doesn’t block and has drop issues. They do have 2 great WRs but they pretty much never stay healthy throughout the season and Herbert most of the time has to play with the backups WRs. On defense- Great pass rush. Bosa Mack Tuli are elite and great but Mack is old and Bosa is always injured. They have no lbs, just a bunch of average guys or washed guys like Kendrick’s and they have no secondary. They have Asante Samuel who is a great nickel back corner but doesn’t cover on the outside.. and all the other guys are really street guys. And finally they technically have one of the best safeties in James but with Staley he has regressed a bunch because he was played out of position. So to summarize chargers have a bunch of holes. Some great players who are on the decline and need to be replace and others who need to be revamped. Jim needs a couple years to really get things going and set the tone for the future but when you have a star QB and a star Coach you can always have the chance to make the playoffs so I think this team will be competitive from day one with Jim but to be a surperbowl contender they probably need 2 offseasons The chargers needed this; Herbert needed this. Jim needed and wanted this. It’s a win win situation
