Grew up there on 23rd Ave. Ran around ALL of those streets as a child with the neighborhood kids in the 90's. Swimming at the river, jumping off the tracks, going to the lakefront. It was home but so glad I left when I did. Its not what it used to be. Katrina changed everything. Brought in a lot of new people wanting to be closer to the city but not IN the city. Everything changes though. Guess its a new generation. I have good memories.
Love this. Thank you for posting. I'm really wanting to semi-retire to Covington. I'm a born and raised Texan, but I've spent alot of time in Louisiana. Texas is NOT the Texas I grew up in anymore. And that's not good. Covington is so pretty, an hour from the French Quarter, and has everything you need, and the people are all genuine and nice. I'm thinking this will be my last home ❤️
My Nephew is a bouncer at Rock & Blues! Big Yella looking dude! I bring my mid 80’s Monte SS the last Friday in July. Each year (not this year tho, car was being repaired) I usually park kitty corner from the tap house and end up with fam & friends at the Rock & Blues. My parents were raised their (me Aurora, IL) my parents live across from the National Guard a few blocks North of downtown. I’m there 2-4 times per year. You will find me across from the tap room again next year at the july block party. Grandmother once lived on the corner of 29th Ave and Lee Road. All leveled and gone. New food pantry is there at 29th & Florida St. In the 1940’s the Florida street area was considered Old Covington
We're a professional and well made video thanks for showing all the sides of Covington it's been so long since I've been there I can't believe how much it's changed and thanks for mentioning my alma mater the St Paul's high school (class of 85)
Good morning I have a chance to be transferred from Cleveland Ohio to Covington to work at the new Costco The only problem is I have seven dogs Is there any place that rents to someone like me within a 45 minute drive? My wife and I no children really don’t care about the condition or the luxuries other than the possibility having an enclosed fence in the backyard Please let me know if you know of anybody that could help us or this is something that you could look into for us Thank you so much and I can always give you my contact information after I see your reply
@@SGusky I spent my whole life there until about 2015 when I relocated for work. When I left it was a small hometown feel but was definitely blowing up in population. After Katrina, people who lost homes in New Orleans but wanted to return home without living in the "danger zone" again, basically flooded the Northshore (Covington, Mandeville, Slidell) so they could still be close to the city but not IN the city. This brought a lot of traffic and business that wasn't there in the 90's/early 2000's. It's much more busy now. City suburb energy packed into small town logistics. I'm not sure who the Sherrif is now, but for DECADES the Sheriifs Dept and city officials have all been relatives and there has been a LOT of controversy with St Tammany Parrish as a whole when it comes to Judges, DA's, coroner's office, sherrifs office, etc. St Tammany Parrish loves its legal system more than anything else. The courthouse is the largest building in town. I still can't call it a city. I dont have any criminal record to speak of, but it's no secret around town that the local law enforcement wasn't trusted very much. Take that for what it's worth. It's home. It will always be home. But it's not the same as it was. If you want a big city suburb feel with southern charm, 30min from New Orleans, it's a beautiful area. But be prepared because cost of living is MUCH higher than Cleveland area. Traffic sucks. Roads suck. (But your coming from Cleveland so roads are comparatively not that bad), food is awesome, people on the Northshore that aren't FROM the Northshore can have the city attitude, people FROM the Northshore are very kind and generous generally speaking. I miss it, but I miss my version. Not the newly updated version. But to each their own. Best of luck. Part of me is jealous.

There's no pros in Covington Louisiana.
Nothing but Cons A to Z.
That's YOUR opinion
@@sparkysmom7149 Covington Louisiana is complete rubbish. It's not an opinion, it's the truth.
