- In this episode, Perri and Rashawn are paid a visit by a long time supporter and subscriber, watch and car collector Trevor Wynn from sunny Los Angeles for an amazing discussion highlighting their passion for vintage, storytelling, and the growing popularity of watches.
Guys, what a great episode! I listened to it in the car when it first released and just watched it here again. I love the addition of the visual content and context.
Great episode, one of the best. To see a guest on there that I can truly relate to. Great conversation on where we as the black culture fit into watch collecting. I can relate to a number of my hobbies where I’m either the only one or one of few in the space.
It was an absolute pleasure having Trevor on. You should also check out his podcast Paré Paré where he keeps the conversation going about all things dear to him in design.
Great conversation, guys. New subscriber from Banner Elk, NC.
Thanks for the sub!
Great episode and great podcast I’m glad I doubt you guys .
Much appreciated! Thanks for watching!
Wow…I’ve watched all of your interviews. This one was one of the best! If you ever do a recap of all your episodes, this one should definitely be on it. Not sure if you will do a black tie affair for the 100th episode. Trevor speaks so well and you can tell the passion he has for timepieces. I would have definitely kept watching….. it was that good. Great work fellas. Looking forward to seeing Ben soon. Happy Thanksgiving!!
I like that idea Robert! Will have to use that!
Great interview! I’m not the biggest vintage watch guy (although I do have one that I love) but this is inspiring me to expand my horizons 👊🏿
Go for it! Thanks for watching!
Guys just before I finished univeristy like 5 years ago, I walked into a Rolex AD and said Rolex was one of my favorites. the Op was at 6k then, it all seemed very accessible and now! The sub is at 10k, it was just at 8k. That few thousand dollar jump has really made it seem distant for me. But in the collecting world, when 1 door shuts, another opens. i remember when Patek Calatravas (previou Gen) were some where at 18k retail, I started looking at the smaller Calatravas that had the micro rotor movement, breguet numerals and off set sub seconds. Then, no one wanted smaller sizes and I loved vintage but these were mint, they started at about 10k and now, you can hardly find them. There are always new avenues to explore, even within the Rolex brand.By the way, Patek now! Within 1 year, the calatrava line moved from 18k entry to about 40k entry, madness!
WCP!!! 💪🏽
You guys are so smart and cool and real.
Appreciate the compliment David. Thanks for tuning in!
I've been waiting for this one! Happy Turkey Day WCP Gang!
Hope you enjoyed it!
Great interview…could have listened in for another hour easy
Encore?!
Super dope 👊🏽👊🏽💯
That adanac, man
Isn’t it sweet!?!
@@WristCheckPod absolutely!
men! I love that question, why do we collect vintage? Hope I can answer and there are multiple answers that I feel one or more will belong to the masses. So, old vintage like the 40's-60's which I collect is my romantic side of when gentlemen were gentlemen, they worked hard, were rugged but still were tidy in their appearance. These old pieces are also like time capsules, they make me think, they are educational/academic/have depth and meaning and hence more value to me, regardless of price. Then, some pieces are just from an era with a certain design language that is not being replicated any longer and if it were, it will never look the same due to natural patina, the ink used for the printing etc and from a simpler perspective, we run after things that make us run after them aka Rarity such as the old Tudor Chronos with Rolex parts. We want what we find difficult to have. Also, watches are like living entities, they have a history and story. A watch collector may see a Breguet type xx used by the french military and they will scream soon as they see it, a vintage royal oak , the watch that redefined luxury during a down turn. The rolex oyster quartz, Rolex's secret weapon during the quartz crisis, The list goes on.
Great assessment Joe! There’s a myriad of reasons for sure but one of the points you made that really resonates is the idea of time capsules. Having a piece of a certain period you’ve romanticized for whatever reason, be it cultural or even rooted in the approach to design at that time. And the beauty of it all, it’s endless, there’s no shortage of amazing experiences that can be had in collecting vintage timepieces.
Man I’m telling you, as someone who grew up from a minority group in a South East Asian country, the reason that Trevor said of why he’s been following you guys, is the same reason why I’ve been following you guys too.
With that said, imma still blame you guys if I ended up with a Tudor Submariner in the near future 😅
This is the kind of feedback that keeps us going! Thank you!
@@WristCheckPod likewise, thank you for the excellent work too!
it is funny because black ppl are not represented any where, enough. i am half Nigerian and even I get surprised when i see a person of color, especially in the watch space. i am bi racial and can relate to so many cultures. you guys are creating soft power for ppl of color, it is very refreshing to see guys of color like yourselves representing, it is a bold move but a great move. i was wondering why Ben Climer said he was a fan, I thought he was talking B.S and to be honest, i think he was saying the truth. Any educated, cultured individual would appreciate the work you guys do or are doing. Unfortunately, I do read comments on other platforms and you'd think that ppl in this hobby would have some sense of thought and it always is not the case. Love your work guys, keep it going. I love hose music, 80's pop, sade, Marvin Gaye and even listened to NOREGA growing up, so you can imagine how shocked I was when I saw the collab.
Thank you for the kind words Joe, we are certainly on a mission and to your point it is much bigger than watches.
