The look... quiet, Eastwood/cowboy-esque, captured Solo. Always knew he would come back from the pit. The Mandalorian bringing that essence. Adding to the Boba Fett story, now The Book of Boba Fett... so badass. Can't wait.

The build up. I had an action figure, saw the Holiday cartoon, and had a poster of him firing f’ing fire out of his arm before Empire came out. The build up for him was HUGE.

When my nephew was four years old, I gifted him with episodes I-VI on dvd. It filled my heart with joy when after watching them, he proclaimed that Boba Fett was his favorite character. He’s twelve now and Boba is still his favorite... to say he is excited about The Book of Boba Fett would be a massive understatement.

I was born in 88 and my grandparents had purchased the vhs box set to keep for the grandkids, that was my first experience with Star Wars and I loved Boba Fett because there was no backstory, he was mysterious and badass at the same time. I enjoyed pretending like the mysterious aspect made him more of a bad guy. Then I got the power of the force Boba Fett figure.

I'm a couple years younger than you Junkman, your viewpoint on that 77-83 time period is spot-on accurate! Living in 2020 now is basically like some imaginary "future world" and I'm really from the 80s/90s. To me The Mandalorian TV show is like the "dream" concept of what would have been AWESOME if it came on maybe ABC tv channel as a Star Wars TV show back in the late 80s that we never got. THUMBS UP!

Boba was such a tease. Mystery wonder looked cool. And was going to shoot a missile. Then we saved proofs of purchases and sent them in to wait 2 months (forever) to get a free Boba Fett that DIDN'T shoot a missile. The mystique was thick. And he did have a lot of cool weapons and flew.

  • @adamln1977
    @adamln1977 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

I like him for a lot of the same reasons. Not just cool looking but mysterious and seemingly respected by Vader. He’s my second favorite after Han Solo. Now for the tangent; Born in 77 and growing up in the 80s I didn’t have much Star Wars anything. The only thing I remember having was a red R2 D2 and Wicket Ewok lunchbox that I absolutely loved. Empire came on tv in the mid 80s and my dad recorded it and I just remember watching empire only for a long time before seeing the other two episodes 4 and 6. Early 90s I had the NES Empire Strikes Back game and I acquired Ertl model kits, the Falcon, and x-wing then got old enough to start making my own money and bought the trilogy sets around 93 or 94 at blockbuster video. But oddly enough I don’t remember when I saw any of the Star Wars movies for the first time. I was really young and I’ve seen them a few hundred time in my life so it’s hard to say. My Star Wars history is a bit strange. Haha

I saw ROTJ in the theater when I was five so I can't speak to the build-up aspect. I still loved that character and figure immensely though.
I grew up in a rural area and there wasnt anyone my age around to share in my little fandom rituals. In 3rd grade somebody moved near who loved Star Wars and wouldn't ya know he was all about the Fett too. So it wasn't just me.
There's something intrinsically badass about him that's hard to quantify. It's like seeing a super pretty girl - a scientist can go on about "the symmetry of her face and how..."
Shut up scientist. Something just clicks with Boba's design. The combination of that spartanesque helmet, armor plates over a...track suit? (Space track suit) rocket pack, cape. Those odd color choices that shouldn't work but do like magic.
Throw in the on screen portrayal as the strong silent type and add a bucket of mystery and you've got a character we're still talking about 40 years later.
Kids don't put up posters of Honda civics and Cessnas on their walls they put up Lamborghinis and jet fighters.
Of course there will be people that say, "actually Lamborghinis are overrated, their handling is..."
    Shut up contrarian dickhead.
Badass sells and Boba is pure badass.

Well I am 24 so I guess I am a prequels boy. Nonetheless, I love Boba Fett. I was first introduced into Star Wars by my uncle, he let me play with his collection and showed me the movies (I started by RotJ) and Boba Fett was one of the first names that I learned. I loved the fact that he had a Jetpack and also Green happens to be my favourite colour. Since my uncle never had a Boba Fett, it was one of the first figures that I owned, he hepled me to buy the 2006 SAGA Boba Fett with fire coming out of his Jetpack so that he seemed to be levitating. Some years later I got my hands on Dark Empire and was excited to learn that he had survived. He has always been on my top 10 characters and was a delight seeing him shine this last season of the Mandalorian. I am super hyped for next December.

In the Original Star Wars Trilogy, Boba Fett wasn't on screen that long and APPEARED to having not done much.
But what he did, was leave us with a lasting impression on this mystery man.
And that, is doing MORE than any other character in the Star Wars franchise. Ever.

When I was 3 or 2 years old I watched return and empire for the first time on vhs in the mid 90s . Instantly loved the badass look and mysterious nature boba conveyed. My dad also got me a toy of him before I even watched them so I too had the love for this toy before I even saw him in live action. Then as a slightly older but still little kid I was excited to see Jango in attack of the clones. Thought he was badass and I liked seeing bobas origin. It meant a lot to me because I am adopted and finally when I get to see my fav characters he wasn’t the badass from the originals. Instead he was like me. Just a kid with no parents who had lost everything right in front of him. It showed me I could grow beyond that and that I could be a badass just like boba fett. It gave me hope. My love for boba fett was almost like my own suit of armor in a way.

  • @RansomeStoddard
    @RansomeStoddard 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why I love Boba Fett:
    1. He was the only character in the original trilogy to back-talk Darth Vader.
    2. He was wiley enough to outsmart Han Solo.
    3. He looked cool as hell.
    4. He was the first new character we got to see from Empire Strikes Back, so all of our anticipation for ESB was focused through him.
    5. He was mysterious but clearly had a rich history. He had scratches and dents on his armor and braided Wookie scalps. This guy has seen some stuff.
    6. He was the first action figure we could mail away for. Waiting for that figure to arrive increases the anticipation for him even more.
    7. He could fly. Dude has a jetpack and in 1980, we as a nation were all about the flying jetpack. We even opened the 1984 Olympics with a guy flying in on one.
    8. He was the best thing in the Holiday Special.
    9. The jangle of his spurs.
    10. He was the only bounty hunter Vader specifically had to tell not to kill the Rebels.

  • @mandofoe7447
    @mandofoe7447 3 ปีที่แล้ว

I was 8 yo in 1977 and for me it was just the character design. He was the coolest looking action figure in the whole Star Wars line. The t-visor helmet the jet pack all the gear pouches and wrist rockets just made him look badass. On top of that he was a mailaway figure. so you got this really cool mysterious figure for free right to your mailbox. It was just like Ralphie and his red Ryder range model air rifle with a compass in the stock. It spoke to the heart of every boy age 7-11 in America.

Dang, I never imagined Boba Fett slaving away over a hot Bespin kitchen, making sure the portions were perfect, nice plating, thinking to himeself "Just a few more bounties and I can open that restaurant on Coruscant".
Then here comes Han Solo shooting first and ruining everything. Guy spent all that time cooking and no one even tasted a bite.

Love the way that we have a decade or so between us but we’re on exactly the same page when it comes to the movies! Keep being great abs have a great 2021 man, appreciate what you do :)

Boba Fett is just a cool looking character who really stood out among the white stormtroopers and black armored Vader. He had a history just from his damaged look. He commanded respect from Vader, talking to him fearlessly. And he served his purpose to the plot. He had his mystery, he came before Jango Fett, who was obviously created by George Lucas as the clone template based on how popular Lucas later realized Boba was. The word, the culture, the T-visor look, and The Mandalorian show simply wouldn't be without him. Glad he's finally being given his due. The Book of Boba Fett.

You're right about every kid of our generation having Star Wars figures. All my friends did. Even the ones that weren't huge fans had at least a couple. Boba Fett was one of my favorites. He was built up to be this mysterious rogue and the fact that you never saw his face made him cool. And even though the figures never had a rocket that actually fired (despite what that one kid we all knew who said his cousin's friend's brother got one) we all knew that he was supposed to have one, even though he never used it in the movies. I sent away for three of them. Two, I traded off to friends. The third, I still have. And it's still one of my favorites.

There was a huge period of time where the original trilogy was all there was. I was too young to have seen the the Star Wars Xmas Special, but watching the trilogy over and over you start to look for things that you didn't see the first time. He didn't get the love and reverence in the story of villains like Jaba, The Emperor, or Darth Vader, but he didn't seem to need it. He just quietly and efficiently carried his portion of the story out without making a big thing about it; even how he "died". That was how Fett got ingrained in my imagination.

He was just cool. He wore all-concealing armor like the villains, but it was kind of shabby looking and in poor condition like the clothes worn by many of the heroes. He spoke very little and we never saw his face, allowing us to project our own theories and fantasies into our play. We didn’t know if he was human, alien, or droid. All we knew was that he was the only part of the holiday special that you could watch without being stoned out of your mind.

What younger generations don't get is the mystery that surrounded this character. We didn't know anything about Mandalorians or clones back then. You could look at him and see how damaged his armor was and see how much he's been through. And like you said he wasn't afraid of Darth Vader and Vader also seemed to show him respect. Now that there's a lot more that we know about the character a lot of that mystery is gone. Today's generation doesn't get it because they didn't get to experience it like we did. But I think what they did with him on the Mandalorian made him an even greater character and should shut these"he ain't never done anything" people up!

I was born a little later but I got to see all the star wars movies at the local drive in before it closed back to back in a triple feature. I remember wondering about the clone wars and what they were. I liked boba fett because he was just a bad ass, his look his attitude, his ability to be a bad ass in my Gi-Joe universe all that. I was born in 80, I used to think when fox movies came on tv it was star wars and get so excited. These people don't understand we built this stuff up in our head. Like the clone wars and were so disappointed

    You said "Bobafettainteverdidnothing" 16 times.
Edit: I got in to the Kenner line of toys when my uncle gave me a full set of figures in a darth vader head case, still have all of them, exept the Jawa he's gone. My favorite figyre was Boba Fett, I still collect those toys and I'm just 12. I brought Boba Fett among other kenner toys to my 1st grade play ground. I even brought my slave 1, I hade the Palatori Death Star and Millennium Falcon but couldn't bring them because of size.

We would debate for hour s...he's a stormtrooper...nonon he's from the Cantina on tatooine...nononono he's a battle droid...he's a good guy...he's a bad guy!! We could not help but live this guy!! Great video

I wasn never a huge fan of Boba Fett, but as a vilain he was great as a toy, because he was a silent mercenary mostly. Which is how I played him as. It wasn't until much later that I dipped my toes in the EU, but I never took it as "real". Once the Clone Wars started giving him some backstory & characterization then I started actually enjoying him as a fan. I really want to see the middle years of his career, but I'm hapy to see the stuff after Jedi at least.

Everything in the first movie was designed to look good on screen. By the time they were designing ESB, Lucas and the production team realized that the merchandising, especially the toys based on weird aliens, droids, and costumed bad guys, was worth more money than the actual box office on the movie... so Boba was intentionally conceived as character to be be merchandised, made into a big deluxe action figure, on lunch boxes, printed on underoos.

That's saying a lot since Lucasfilm didn't make much of a percentage off the figures. I think their royalties were only 5% with Kenner keeping the rest. (On top of a $100K annual
      licensing fee.)

I honestly wasn't too keen on Boba back in the day, I was born in 78, I didn't see the movies in theaters because nobody in my family was a SW fan. I did however have all movies on VHS, which I watched alot. As soon as Clone Wars came out when Boba was young and as he appeared in The Mandalorian, then it started to change. I started to like Boba and I surely can't wait for The Book of Boba, it's gonna be Epic.

Boba Fett was just cool, he looked cool and had good lines and the action figure was the best looking figure by far all that plus i think most of us wanted more from him. It would take a long time. in that time he became SW most popular character

In Empire Strikes Back he also ambushes Luke Skywalker when he was about to rescue his friends. I can remember seeing the film in 1980 and literally being on the edge of my seat waiting for Luke to come and save Han. And suddenly Boba Fett cuts him off. I hated Boba Fett because he was a great villain. But I liked him for the same reason. And he was the best part of the Holiday Special. And if you really think about it, without Boba Fett, the second half of Empire would have been completely different.

"Boba Fett never did nothing." Seriously? To those who keep saying that, shut up already! Boba Fett is just plain cool. Period. As an old school Star Wars fan I can tell you that it's indescribable how blown away I was by this character. If anything, it was George Lucas who ended up not doing much with him. Thanks George! And when Return of the Jedi rolled around, what does old Georgie boy do? He kills Boba off! And in response to this, fans worldwide refused to accept his death. For us old school guys, the coolest bounty hunter in the galaxy rocketed his way out of the Sarlaac pit unscathed. The character has always had a life of his own outside of the films. Everyone from fans to Lucasfilm employees have built up the background for this character because George never bothered with it. A friend of mine(considerably younger than me) said he thought Jango Fett was cooler simply because he got more screentime than Boba. So what? Jango never nabbed Han Solo and if I were a betting man, I'd wager that Jango wouldn't have succeeded at it either. Does Jango Fett have a fan club? I don't think so! Boba on the other hand has plenty of fans/fan clubs. What can I say? Boba has the look, the attitude and all the high-tech stuff that just makes him way cooler to me than any other Star Wars character.

Bobba was imbetted into our subconscious since he George Lucas intriduced him before Empire strikes back with that huge star wars parade in CA. Then he was intriduced him in the holiday special. Asking why bobba fet is cool in star wars is like asking why snake eyes was cool for GI Joe. He flys he shoots rockets has a flame thrower cool helmet and has a cool cable to lasso people and he is a bounty hunter what else could you want.

you have a point, in 1980 we were not disappointed by boba fett in ESB . he looked so cool it was love at first sight.
it wasn't till the prequels came out when i realized boba fett honestly did nothing, he shot a Leia twice and missed then stood around for a while and in the end fell in a pit...big deal.

I agree with everything in this video. I’m a fan of similar vintage to you Junkman and can relate to all of that . He was mysterious, looked like he’d been through some sh1t with that weathered armour. Had a cool ship my mum thought was a clothes iron. If there was only the OT of StarWars there would be fewer Boba knockers but now the franchise is expansive they can compare him to other characters that get way more exposure. Most being characters that to me are forgettable. Like you said we didn’t know anything, who is this guy? He looks a bit more dangerous than a Stormtrooper , doesn’t say much but you can sense his attitude. We had no internet and we couldn’t even rent the movies until years after their release . Exciting times from a more civilised age. Great video man
