    We counted them out. We said they were done. We thought their time at the top was over. But once again, the United States, osu standard's greatest team of all time, have once again won the osu World Cup. With their win at the 2022 osu World Cup, it marks their 5th OWC win in a row, and their 7th in the last 8 years. But this shouldn't have happened. The 2022 osu World Cup was by far the most chaotic OWC to date. This was exemplified when South Korea defeated the United States in the semifinals and ended the longest match winning streak of all time. This semifinals loss should've marked the end of an era. The United States were one loss away from elimination, which would've ended the longest 1st place streak in OWC history. Now they had to make it through the finals and grand finals of the osu World Cup without losing a single match if they wanted to win. But at the end of it all, they once again found a way to make it out on top. Everything was against them. They had to fight the negative narratives and the increased pressure of the moment. And once again, we were met with the same outcome we are all too familiar with. But this time feels different. And that's because the United States should have never won the osu World Cup 2022.

    What do you mean the US shouldn’t have won. They’re clearly the better team. They lost maps to the lower seeds when half their team was sick or hungover. They lost in tb, when sk put on a godlike unexpected performance. And now when they actually start taking it seriously, they destroy the entire competition. It was quite predictable

I think that this OWC highlights how great the US team is even without Vaxei and people should congratulate the team for winning even though they got sent to loser's bracket. Like another comment in this video said, only the best win and in this OWC, USA was the best.

    Excellent video as always!
    I think it's hard to stress just how much people were hyping up Poland (with Maliszewski's insane consistency) and SK (Karcher and worst HR player) to be the teams of the tournament, with how dominantly they were winning their early games, when the US wasn't (as pointed out against Israel and HK in the video). So many people also though that having no Vaxei would be their downfall, which is easy to say when you look at how standout he was in the past few years.
    My take on it is that the US just difficulty gaps every other team. In the earlier rounds, when the star rating of the maps is lower and at a range that more players will find comfortable, we're much more likely to see map upsets like we did. As it gets further into the tournament, the depth and just overall skill ceiling of the US team is too great compared to any other team, so they only seem to get better as the star ratings of the maps increase. Hopefully next year we might see other teams with a comparable depth that can give them a run for their money!

  • @AJ1703
    @AJ1703 ปีที่แล้ว +87

    I'm from the Philippines, but I support the US to win. Not just because it's a safe bet, but rather because of their dominance. I like how they're able to put up so many different rosters and still can come out on top. As for our country's team, I am also happy that they're improving and I support them too. Nothing said that it's illegal to support two teams. Whether the ones I support win or not, I am contented and happy as long as they played to their fullest and had fun in the tournament. That's what all matters.
    Stop the negative toxicity the US all gets. The players worked hard for their skill level, denying them that win and hating them for being good is just outright insanity. You guys need to check if you have a problem in your head. That crab mentality is just annoying.

      In fairness, the USA in previous years was both early consistency and lategame powerhouse, but due to the improvement of everyone around them they've had to shelve the front half of that. The USA weren't scary because of their lategame; they were scary because they were guarenteed t get there. With that no longer being a guarentee, OWC is more interesting and the USA feels like they're earning their spot at the top more and more, frankly a win win situation

      I think that was where he was going too, but it still makes me kind of irritated, because it just seems like he’s overly exaggerating people’s thoughts over the US’s win streak. I’ve watched OWC for a few years now, and i’m fairly active in the community, and rarely (maybe never) have I ever seen someone complain about the US winning. The people on that team put as much effort into practicing and playing just like every other country, so the title of this video is him downright disregarding their effort and skill, which is also severely disrespectful, even if it was a complete exaggeration.

    Right now the United States might seem like an unbeatable force, however, I think that they can be beaten. Their roster has a heavy focus on consistency, and it is why they have been winning so much, along with a deep player pool for specific odd picks. It would be difficult, but I believe the way to win is to beat them at their own strategy. there are a couple of standout players, that I believe could beat the United States their own game. I know for a fact that Xootynator’s consistency in tournament has been actually fucking nutty, and maybe Canada could build a team with that, and there were several other players that were playing consistently this year as well. (although I gotta be honest, I paid a little bit less attention to them then I should.) the simple fact is, when a team is well-rounded and consistent enough, they have a better shot at beating them. This means better acc and holding combos longer. it’s very difficult to pick players with performance like that, especially in tournament when nerves are a factor. It’s also not like the other teams aren’t trying to do this, you can see that clearly they are, but the United States is just better at it right now for whatever reason. And that might come down to their “training regimen” (if they have one.), we can speculate what that entails, but we might never know.

    • @Zeno-
      @Zeno- ปีที่แล้ว

      The thing is, the US just has too much of osu's overall playerbase, so it's natural to have more insane players.

    • @ongyouki
      @ongyouki ปีที่แล้ว

      I think that the way to beat countries like the United States is to abuse gimmick picks and have multiple traps in your map pool. When your team qualifies, their performances are comparatively rated. Therefore teams can counter-strat using their picks and bans.
      If your team will qualify, what dissuades you from throwing two maps as trap picks? Teams don't do this: their performances when qualifying is generally reflective on how their lineups play certain maps. Having trap picks gives you more ban and pick options. But it needs realism: Russia will never be bad at a speed pick so even if they're suddenly "bad" on it teams won't choose it anyway. But what if it's Nomod where Russia puts a subpar performance in? You can't presume then that they trolled it. Basically:
      - Throw two maps, preferably in the mod that your team isn't good at
      - If these two maps play a certain way, e.g. tech, ban this type of map against teams that you won't need the pick in anyway.
      - When you're against teams where you might want to use them, let them through and instead of banning picks you don't like, ban a pick they'd like instead. If they'd like the map you'd ban, let it through, ban something else.
      If the team has been playing to their standards then it throws the validity of what they're good at into obscurity. How can u pick tech into a team that used to ban it but they've beat u by a margin on it? Teams can get better but when they're banning it for the whole tourney and let it through and do good on it it's not them getting better. I would have two picks that are trap picks, good number to have.
      When it comes to gimmick not really long to explain. Have good players for gimmick maps. Play primarily gimmick maps. Your carry needs to play and be consistent at the gimmick picks your team will take and the consistent ones that the States will use. Maybe a trap here too. But you really need to practice and win gimmick picks if you want to rely on it and having bait picks.

      @nihildwo4874 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ongyouki i guess people like to go for "consistency strategies" over big brain trap setting. I mean imagine you drop the ball on 1 or 2 picks, suddenly your team isn't 2nd or 3rd in qualifier, but suddenly gets 8th or 9th in qualifier. Instead of a relatively easy bracket, you gotta face tough opponnets - instead of facing the usa in finals, you have to face them in quarterfinals. Let's be real, The year Canada got their podium finish, they did not look good on the finals and grand finals pool. If they didn t have the luxury of having seed 2, they would likely have been eliminated by any of the teams in the losers bracket in finals weekend. So why should canada have thrown their shot at podium for that?
      I mean why should a team like south korea botch their qualifier seed in order to face usa or germany in quarters, when they can have teams like russia or romania instead?
      Apart from the fact that tougher opponents = u give up more points, so you are easier to scout out. This can easily backfire, and "fixing scores" to make u look weaker can also go wrong.
      Granted for me it looks like germany kinda always looks like "we just play as good as we need to to win". They normally take a relatively low seed compared to their final placing.
      They do not have that many "top scores of the week", but still win their maps regardless. Taiwan feels very similar to that on a lower level of "we play just as good as necessary".

They're too comfortable on the throne, so they started taking things seriouslywhen they lost. That's at least my assumption. I'd like to see another winner sooner rather than later, but I still wonder just how long their reign can go on. Hopefully things change this year, but we can't truly know.

    What a lot of people don't realize right now is that the USA could make the strongest team that they have ever had in existence if they took the top eight players right now for the USA. Just to put it in perspective even in 2019 they were still three digit players on the team for the USA. If you were to take the top eight for the USA as of this current moment we would have eight players in the top 50. Just other teams hearing that there are eight players in the top 50 on one team would immediately put fear into them. The USA doesn't form the best team they can every year, they don't want to make it boring. They don't want to make it well the USA is going to win they want to make it who will the USA lose to.

      Most of the USA players in the top 50 are speed farmers. This isn’t bad, but a lot of them haven’t shown particular skill depth for tournaments. USA even has a tournament to get picked for the USA OWC team and many people don’t get picked on purpose for people of lower rank who are way better in tournament play.
