So stoked when I'm looking at buying a knife and I jump on TH-cam to find a review and Tac the fucking boss has a video on it. You the man brother. Greetings from West Australia
Love the Locust wood part! That knife is like a mini maul man! Nice review. This is my favorite blade shape & grind for a knife about this size. I have a 9.5" overall knife with pretty much the exact same shape & grind blade. The slight recurve gives it a bite & is great for carving. And that type of tip is a penetrator for sure & strong. It has worked excellent for all the stuff I have ever used it for.
Just a tip for big handles like this. The same issue was present with my beloved schf9. Take the handles off sand the inside of the handles down grind and or snip the handle bolts down to size and vuala. Less beef.
***** well I've narrowed it down to the schf35 and schf36. The 35 seems like a more practical everyday carry knife but the 36 looks like a beast. Ur reviews make it hard to choose. Will eventually own all probly.
nice blade..schrade new stuff is very interesting...just got the schf28and its a jem if you like large blades. Thxs for vid tac. Im sure glad theres no locust wood around here lol
I've been looking to get a good fixed blade I have over 50 knives but there all folders.have not bought a fixed blade yet. Should I buy this or Any other suggestions what do you think tac.
That black locust is a real b**ch!! My girl had some chunks of wood in the back yard where she used to live left over from the previous tenants and I said 'sure, I'll split it up for campfires'. Hahaha, much easier said than done! Didn't know it was black locust...I've actually split ironwood twice now, and I'm not so sure that it's harder than that damn black locust. That batoning test impressed me enough to try this knife and with a couple of mods, I really love it. Who'd think such a cheap knife could be so tough?? Anyway, thanks for the vid and huge kudos for batoning locust!
We have a form of Ironwood in the Mojave. Shit so hard and dense it sinks like a boulder in water. Have an old craftsman axe I keep pretty damn sharp, the wood laughs when I strike it. Had sparks fly when hitting it with the chainsaw too. I was happy when I cut the shit up on my bosses yard and no longer have to play with it. Also...smells like ketchup when cutting with chainsaw.
Good Vid. I like re-curves on my blades and my ladies. Hahahaa Same with the handles, got to have them big on both the knives and the ladies. LOL Good knife, you couldn't break it.
Anyone know a good knife that's around 7 inches or so that is a 1/4th inch thick that is preferably 1095 or better? I've really found a liking to 1/4th inch thick with both the Esee 5 and BK2 and been looking for one that is just a couple inches longer. "Yea that's what she said" I just find you can baton the shit out of ad so much better and do chopping a lot better with 1/4 inch. I've been making one myself that't 5160 but I'd like to try one that's similar to get an idea and possibly improve on it.
www2.knifecenter.com/item/TO88/tops-knives-moccasin-ranger-fixed-6-12-1095-carbon-blade-micarta-handles-kydex-sheath On Knife center it has one without serrations. I really do like the way it looks, almost wished it didn't have the swedge on top. Does it come with a kydex sheath like the picture shows? also does the swedge affect the battoning much?
I got my moccasin ranger on amazon and mine came with a kydex sheath. The sheath is awesome and is definitely on the higher-end kydex. As for The swedge, doesn't tapper a whole lot but it does. it stays thick all the way to the tip. I dont botton alot but i havent had any preoblems. the thick poweder coating may slows it down, but it smooths out after awhile. If you want pictures of different angles you can email me at bkirkws@gmail.com. I'll be deleted this comment in a few hours so someone doesn't get my email lol
Wow, that is impressive wood! I bet it burns 3 times longer than the pine from your last spot. On the knife....interesting blade but the whole thing is a wash if there are finger grooves. Finger grooves are as unorganic as it gets. I wouldn't choose that even for a tactical blade. Just my humble opinion.
I don't like finger grooves ....... only knife they work on is my Randall model 14 Attack looks bad ass too !!! It"'s made for thrusting first and foremost it is a fighting knife your Blackjack Halo same difference , All the best Tac. !!!!!
its gotta jam in if you three finger it bro??? well thats what she said haha ha i love that knives looks just wish they did a machette version to! respec tac yo da maaaan
my new pet hate...'partial hollow grind', I am now calling that good for bugger all grind the 'Chinese Grind' and all knives that have it are completely dead to me. Chinese grind and cheap arse chinese sheath oh yeah let me throw money at that ROFLMAO

I've watched several of your Schrade fixed blade videos and finally bought a schf26. They are a good, solid knife for such a reasonable price.

Yes sir I cut a lot of that shit off the mountains in Gatlinburg Tenn every winter. Your welcome brother!
I brought one of them here in Australia but it is called x tactical, its exactly the same knife except mine has three huge serrations in the blade.
How do those serations preform?
+Hunter Hoke Hmm, they get a bit snagged unless you man handle it and keep the serrations sharp.
Just a tip for big handles like this. The same issue was present with my beloved schf9. Take the handles off sand the inside of the handles down grind and or snip the handle bolts down to size and vuala. Less beef.

Good knife, you couldn't break it.
You should people how to use a wedge so they can preserve their knives in a critical situation.
I do like schrade blades but its the jimping that lets it down for me
bigbad Knapp its a little to aggressive
👍 just hope schrade listen to you about it
No saw teeth, sheath is the best on the market. When used in right environment! Sheath - Scabbard are your hints!
kick a$# tactical you rock
Nelson Tevis thank you sir!
Schf3N is a replica of a Chris Reeves Pacific.
It’s hollow grind? That don’t make no sense
It makes perfect sense.
I'm only 14 but your vids are pretty entertaining

I have tge maccasin ranger, and it works nicely.
Tops knives mil-spie5. Although it has serrations its only about 15% on the knife

Iron would is ridiculous!
It's so hard that it burns when you cut it on a chop saw or table saw.
Making me nervous... This is my baby, and the sheath sucks. I got a kydex one that is awesome.
