I watched my father and both grandfathers repair broken still useful objects. That was in the 50's/60's. With out saying anything, they did it. Also...without saying anything...saving potential items was par for the course. I continue this tradition. Waste not. With my welding skills...I can repair/make the saved items preform...again & again, very satisfying.
I left the United States in 1988 due to an extremely poor market for metallurgical engineers so I immigrated to Canada and actually had a career. In the U.S. I would have ended up driving a truck or something worse and I will never forget or forgive that.
@@davidcarter5813 thats interesting to hear, as i always thought of the US as a relatively big player in steel, aluminium production... Here in AT Metallurgists and Materials Scientists are very much demand, and it is not even a big country.
to all Metallurgical Engineer what is the name or title of the korean made steel alloy that is 10 times stronger than titanium and also lighter and cheaper to produce

I see the metallurgical engineering degree being replaced by materials engineering, which is more generalist. I also have the impression that the supply of vacancies for engineers in the global metallurgical market is shrinking.
As I said, I‘ve seen metallurgical engineering degree been substituted by materiais engineering here. So I ask if is happening the same thing on your country...
Im just joking. You are most likely right on the research side but as a process engineer for a US stainless steel manufacturer I think there is enough of a future ahead that aspiring metallurgical engineers should not worry.
I wish you guys would shut up the know it all Black Smiths who think their trade knowledge in working metal is THE definitive last word on ferrous metals, metallurgy, solid state physics, materials science, foundry practice, machinability, heat treatment, properties of materials and the rest.
@@benlear7419 I got blackguarded by a smif when I suggest his blades could be honed for an edge and he turned it into a huge dispute about materials knowledge, I just had a machining trade in aerospace I wasn't expecting this bastid to simply put down aerospace materials know how and just spout on about his supreme knowledge of teh forge and how all metallurgy descends from his font of wisdom.
Santy Clause I'm sorry that happened. That particular smith was probably just an exception. I know many blacksmiths myself and they're usually kind and open to learning more or sharing their knowledge. With blacksmithing however, it comes down more to personal preference on what steels they use and what they do with them rather than scientific reasons.

I study metallurgy at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Ghana.. And it is pretty good
