I had a '95 2.0L TwinSpark 155. Man that thing was great to drive! This is the coupe version of the 155, and I salute you for this choice. Nothing feels and looks better from that era.
I almost bought a 155, new, back in c.1998ish. The gearknob fell off on the test drive. I bought a Honda - my word, that was dull. I had lusted after an Italian ever since, hence the GTV.
dick von duisberg hahahah Alfas have their oddities, but they still manage to make people fall in love for them. Though I had my 155 till 2011, and over 150,000km later, the gear knob stayed intact.😂😂 it had some electric issues where the red warning lights under climate control buttons lit like a christmas tree.
I just bought my self 156 2.5V6 24V pack sport 2... what a car ! Mother of all Gods I bought greatest ting in my life - it needs renovation but I knew that, she was cheep and I love that too - I love to work on cars, I will make her just like I want and save one diamond from junkyard. Im so so happy, in matter of a fact this Alfa made me feel like never before in my life... I dont have words to describe my feelings, I know I sound like a nutcase - like all ppl in love I guess, LOL :) best buy of my life - strongly recommended ! ;) cheers
i really like this! I had a gtv 3.0 and i tuned it to 270bhp and made all kind off mods on suspension and lightened her and so on. I cant wait to see the result! On my channel there are a lot of videos of gtv and now of 156 with 3.0 v6
@1:50 Michelin Pilot Sport 4 on those wheels, perfect choice. Far exceeds the standards of the tyres available when the car originally came out, nullifying some of the handling negatives that are usually mentioned in old reviews
After seeing a Ford Puma with semi slicks and lowering springs absolutely thrash modern hot hatches and sports cars on several track days, that one would have been my pick of the bunch.
Zero Ninety fair enough, it has been done to death. But there is a reason for that, with little money spent, it can be made into something truly spectacular. Besides it's not about straightline speed with the MX5
The title seem wrong? You bought that car for 3000£, the cost of the build will be considerably more, right? xD Other then that, no complaints, this will be interesting, props for picking something a bit risky to start with, something exciting! An old R32 or VR6 GOLF would be too easy and probably way more expensive to get in the first place! ;)
MG ZS 180. A bit uncool and lame crappy trim quality, but a glorious 2.5 litre aluminium V6 that responds amazingly well to a lightened fly and some intake exhaust mods. 1250kgs wet, double wishbone up front and multilink in the rear. One of the best handling FWD cars ever made. Essentially the same layout as an Integra Tyre R (DC2) and no-one ever exactly said they drove badly! Absolutely dirt bloody cheap, and whilst they have a few foibles to watch out for, they have a great following, mods to deal with those problems and a lot of dirt cheap parts! £50 gearboxes, £150 for a sub 100k V6 and a MOT'd good car for less than a grand. People don't know what they're missing out on. Plus, the sound is epic.
never liked the exterior styling (wheels included) but that V6 is one of the best sounding sixes in the world with the right exhaust on them (some people make them too dang raspy). i approve it based on that alone.
In 2004I had the Fiat coupe 24v turbo, it was a 2002 sky blue colour, had turbo and intercooler upgraded, it was super car money to run and maintain. Awsome car though, very quick, I regret selling the coupe more than I regret selling my 99 Nissan skyline. I did buy a yellow coupe turbo 24v again in 2014, was very cheap, had nothing but trouble with it and got rid within 6 months.
somthing to say about a gtv track car is be careful with oil starvation in long hi speed corners with the busso. a great mod is welding plates in the carter, i olso done that with my gtv v6 after i fried my crankshaft barings. sorry for the bad grammer, my english is not so good
budget'ish' car with a lot of fun (they have been going up the last 5 years now :( ) : Peugeot 309GTi16.. the mightiest GTi of them all in the early 90's. did not lose its 'chuck it in a corner' feeling like the 205 GTi, was faster and with the longer wheelbase a lot more stable for longer sweepers with the upgraded rear axle. but be aware .. verry nervous and tendency to lose the back when you would apply less throttle mid-corner. a real challenge to keep traction in the rain .. but soooo rewarding when you get it right . i owned the 309GTi 8v and man ... do i miss it today.
I like this Auto., good 1! We in Canada weren't allowed the privilege to purchase or other Alfa's, thanks for the content. Cheer's from $(E)ast-Van B.c.
I cannot believe how much rubbish has been said on this... So. Let's address the most conspicuous. Fwd = fail..mmm why is it when the Germans do it ( golf / TT / A4 etc it's either overlooked or not deemed a problem ? But when Alfa do it it's a flaw ? Second misconception. "It's a tipo" Not quite , the rear multilink suspension is completely different , it was designed by Gianclaudio Travaglio an automotive engineer of note "If" it's in good condition the car handles very well indeed. Add a quaife diff and there is virtually no understeer. Most of these cars suffer from age related issues not design related ones. The Busso is one of if not "the" best production V6 ever made. This alone elevates the GTV above so many of the aforementioned car's. By all means criticize the Alfa, it has its shortcomings but I urge you to drive a sorted one before you spout the usual rubbish regarding reliability and then suggest a golf or some other fwd eurobox as an alternative. Or be like the rest of the sheep on here and believe the german car industry's reliability propaganda...and stick to your golfs Audi's and boring beemers Or think for yourself and choose something a little more emotive.
The characteristics that he talks about this car is scarily identical to the Fiat Coupe 20vt.. It also has crappy Brembo brakes. Also made during the same time. Which one would you have tho? a I5 Turbo or V6
That 'gobshite' was Jeremy Clarkson, leader of the three wise men of the motoring world. Whether you like him or not he has been reviewing cars since the early 80's and has driven pretty much everything, so his opinion should at least be respected. Because of those three I bought my first Alfa a month ago. Having already put 6000km on it from new, the engine started making a slight ticking noise like the one in this video, the suspension makes an odd noise and the radio is rubbish, so except from my trim which hasn't fallen off yet, I'd say yours is as good as new. None of that matters though, even if the wheels fell off on the motorway I would still love it. The wise men were completely right about Alfa.
I really like this ... I approve! I'll be following closely, the presenter is quite opinionated but quirky and entertaining so yeah, Nicely done carfection!
I am rather opinionated. The film would have been twice as long but they removed my really, really opinionated bits, for fear of upsetting Golf owners. :)
articulate guy, fun and interesting idea, funny mustache. more, please.
Thank you!
I concur
Yes, like the mustache as well!
The MR2 turbo didn't have pedigree?
I thought the same

he didn't have the balls to handle that pedigree
compared to alfa...not: Toyota didn't even exist when alfa romeo had already won everything from about 25 years...
neither did ferrari, lamborghini, so what?
in that case ford has maximum pedigree

I've always wanted to build a budget Alfa race car. The GTV wouldn't have been my platform of choice but I'll be following this closely anyway.
Autoblog also did a project on an Alfa 156 to race it at the 'junkyardrace'. It is in dutch though...

budget for breakdowns
haha true that, they have spent plenty of time at the pits during the race

2:12 “I don’t want a VW Golf” 😂😂😂😂😂
This guy is an example of a very very decent presenter.
This guy likes your comment.
He’s a scurrilous bastard in real life x
I am a very simple person, I see an Alfa in the thumbnail, I go into it and press the like button.
AYYY! Great video! This is very exciting; cant wait to see what you guys have in store for us.
More of this, please. Brilliantly present too!
And also please, more sound clip of that V6, please.
hey rich, that moustache suits you very well. Looking forward to this series
4:46 I'm pretty sure it was Clarkson in an old top gear episode...
D K I think that’s the joke #whooshparrot
“When I see an Alfa Romeo go by, I tip my hat.”
- Henry Ford
,if that quote is not enouth
This is also the model that Captain Slow used in the Alfa Challenge... needs some cheese on the engine...
Man I was so sceptical of this video, I thought it was going to be a Car Throttle rip off.. but you really nailed it.. can't wait to see more!
Excellent! Looking forward to the build and the results!
I'm already too excited about this series! Bring it on!
i really like this! I had a gtv 3.0 and i tuned it to 270bhp and made all kind off mods on suspension and lightened her and so on. I cant wait to see the result! On my channel there are a lot of videos of gtv and now of 156 with 3.0 v6
Absolutely following! I got a 3 door 147 Ti and i fucking love it! GTVs have always been a beauty, can't wait to see this at the Nurb.
Can’t wait for the next one. Very interesting.
Nice concept, looking forward to the next videos
Brilliant video, a decent review and thankfully with some real interest for us petrol heads. Well done!
I've bought an Alfa spider 2.0 2 years ago... it's my summer sunday car and I love it so much !
Really interested to see what happens with this project! 👍
I like series idea, I might watch the rest.
The alfa though, was rear camber like that when new or suspension is colapsing?
Best series out now. Can't wait to see more.
Ps: the Busso is such a orchestra.
I love ALFA ROMEO, no matter what disappointments it throws at you, when you drive it, it all goes away.
Will be looking forward to see this build. 👍
Looks like a fun project car, hope we get a ton of videos on the build
Such a cool car to upgrade. Can't wait to see where this is going!
@1:50 Michelin Pilot Sport 4 on those wheels, perfect choice. Far exceeds the standards of the tyres available when the car originally came out, nullifying some of the handling negatives that are usually mentioned in old reviews
Looking forward to this series!
Excellent taste in cars
Already hooked! Keep it up!
looking forward to the updates on this car. Awesome car.
What was the yelow car at 2:10 ?!?!
Best series every on carfection
Really? Thanks!
you did an amazing choice, im having now a broken gtv 2.0 TS but i still love it
4:45 "gobshite", he is talking about jeremy clarkson
This is cool. I shall continue watching
Top video, though! Looking forward to more!
After seeing a Ford Puma with semi slicks and lowering springs absolutely thrash modern hot hatches and sports cars on several track days, that one would have been my pick of the bunch.
The return of Duisburg, excellent!
Thanking you kindly, Sir!
No problem, looking forward to this series.
can't wait to see the final result !
Am looking forward to this series...
Does anyone know the song at 2:30?
The answer is Miata, FR layout and cheaper too, whilst of course being more reliable
Iesa Rahman so. slow.
Slow, boring and done to death already.
Zero Ninety fair enough, it has been done to death. But there is a reason for that, with little money spent, it can be made into something truly spectacular. Besides it's not about straightline speed with the MX5
runrabbitrunracing and is the GTV that much quicker?
Iesa Rahman standard is a 240km/h car and 0-100 6.7 sec...
looking forward to seeing how this turns out..
The title seem wrong? You bought that car for 3000£, the cost of the build will be considerably more, right? xD Other then that, no complaints, this will be interesting, props for picking something a bit risky to start with, something exciting! RainbowPixelationGaming I had the same thought
Swings and roundabouts. Build costs not cheap but car is cheap as a starting point. Also - manmaths.
A golf it's not a track car. He explained that well.
"manmaths" I'm stealing that.
MG ZS 180. EPIC!!! never expected this. forza alfa
quality episode. wish this was longer
never liked the exterior styling (wheels included) but that V6 is one of the best sounding sixes in the world with the right exhaust on them (some people make them too dang raspy). i approve it based on that alone.
Well, I'll enjoy watching try and make this competitive but I think that you'll be kicking against the goads on this one.
I just bought one, same colour as well. Swapped the blue interior for tan on black.
916 GTV V6. Fantastic car.
Beautiful car, and the greatest V6 ever made.
Looking forward to the next episode.....Just don't break the diff!!
You guys are doing very well.
In 2004I had the Fiat coupe 24v turbo, it was a 2002 sky blue colour, had turbo and intercooler upgraded, it was super car money to run and maintain. Thats a clean car....you have done well

Very interesting video, very engaging reviewer, and the best of all is the car. Thank you. Keep them comming.
somthing to say about a gtv track car is be careful with oil starvation in long hi speed corners with the busso.
a great mod is welding plates in the carter, i olso done that with my gtv v6 after i fried my crankshaft barings.

Unusual as in rear mounted turbo?
Look forward to it.
That'll be the gobshite Clarkson I take it? Great video thanks for sharing 👍
Not a car I'd have ever considered for a track project! Look forward to see what you guys make out of it...
lighter car = free HP.
Good stuff 👍🏻
Woow! Great start!

i owned the 309GTi 8v and man ... do i miss it today.
OMG im so going to follow this!
I had that exact same model. I really miss the beautiful Silky Smooth V6 - Best Engine ever invented.
Looking forward to this 👍🏻
GTV is still one of the most beautiful cars ever made.
aaaaand subscribed... Now this might be interesting. I am going to do the same to my GTV. Although I own a 2.0 Ts, ( for weight reasons )
My guess would be the addition of a centrifugal Rotrex supercharger.
im hoping high compression NA build
Mantenner He said not much money. Not likely to be staying N/A as great as that would be
Great vid, more please
On it's way, Sir!
In my opinion i’d try an AWD conversion as this car is related with the Lancia Dedra/Delta and some other Fiat group cars which shared this platform.
Man am i keen for more of this!
I like this Auto., good 1! We in Canada weren't allowed the privilege to purchase or other Alfa's, thanks for the content. Cheer's from $(E)ast-Van B.c.
James May would be proud!
I bought one Spider version TS for 1500 euro. Best buy of my life!
Great car and great thinking
Honda Prelude came to mind as an alternative. Lot's of parts available and they are reliable
Didn't they do a Mugen version with more go? That would have been cool.
Well you need to go to Alfaowner.com for suspension, brakes and chassis advice and alfagtv6.com forums for engine upgrades.
I cannot believe how much rubbish has been said on this...
So.
Let's address the most conspicuous.
Fwd = fail..mmm why is it when the Germans do it ( golf / TT / A4 etc it's either overlooked or not deemed a problem ? But when Alfa do it it's a flaw ?

the alfa gtv and the fiat coupe are basically the same car,
the difference lies in the suspension, the engine, and a few other things
Loved both the presenter and the concept. Hope he can tune it to 400 bhp.
Stay tuned!
The characteristics that he talks about this car is scarily identical to the Fiat Coupe 20vt.. It also has crappy Brembo brakes. Also made during the same time. Which one would you have tho? a I5 Turbo or V6
Genuinely we would have been happy with either! Busso V6 is something rather special, though.
there is a age limit
why?
That 'gobshite' was Jeremy Clarkson, leader of the three wise men of the motoring world. I've never liked Clarkson much, nor often agree with his opinions - although I'm in a tiny minority there. Wheels falling off? Keep watching! ;)
this is something i can get behind
Man slagged off E46 coupes and Jeremy Clarkson in the same video 😂
ITS RED ! :D Its gotta be fast ! love that sentece
dat mustache thou!!!
I can't wait to hear how the busso engine is going to sound

Interesting show
This bloke is great!
This bloke appreciates your comment!
What order of priorities did Chris Harris come up with when prepping a car for the track? 1. Tyres 2. Brakes 3. Suspension?
