- The Devil Upright: Temptation, ambition, materialism, sexuality, obsession, dark impulses, being/feeling chained to a situation or other person. Being bedeviled by someone or something. Manipulating or being manipulated. Darkness, pandemonium, chaos, being ruled by the world of the senses. Superficiality, judging or being judged by appearance. Feeling or being burnt by someone or something. A difficult sexual encounter, or tapping into long-repressed desires. Urges. Wanting what is “forbidden” by convention or society. Looking what is haunting or tormenting oneself in the eye. Wrestling with addiction or addictive behavior. Destructive behavior. Can indicate another attempting to control you or you attempting to control someone else.
Use of humor, sarcasm, laughter, mirth, partying, laughing at yourself. Laughing at your demons. A mischief maker or troublemaker.
The Devil Best Course of Action: Look your desires, obsessions, and fears directly in the eye. Understand what you are chained to or what is bedeviling you. Laugh. Challenge authority. Enjoy your senses, and your physical body, we are physical beings. Shrug off being judged. Accept that someone may be attempting to manipulate you. You may have to not be the good guy. It is okay to have and enjoy sex in a safe, consenting relationship. Stand steady as you work on your obsessions, fears, or deep desires.
The Devil Reversed: Beginning to break free from what you have been chained to. Kicking an addiction or getting over an obsession over a person or situation. Starting to see the funny or humorous side of a problem. Busting loose, breaking free. Stopping a destructive behavior.
The Devil Reversed Best Course of Action: Break away! Break free. Refrain from indulging in excessive or damaging behaviors.Put the fire out. Walk away from something or someone who is attempting to enslave or control you. See that the devil is within, you can choose to be free. Lighten up. Shed the old habit. You can have desires but choose NOT to act on them.
I think of this card as the need to do shadow work. Continue healing and getting to know the dark side. I've been pulling this a lot. Its always good doing shadow work.

Interesting card for me. I've done a few readings recently about questions relating to being trans or about my love life, and when the Devil pops up it's invariably in a position of the spread that indicates my past struggles before I transitioned, or the sexual struggles I often wrestled with. I've come to think of it as the "horrors of testosterone" card, and interestingly Temperance is the opposite, the peace of mind on estrogen card. Lol.
Some weird, very personal meanings those cards are often having for me at the moment.

In my dream I was told I was the devil and she said I didn't deserve ? she looked at me judging and telling me to my face these things..I thought about it ..then another women said to me..it's not your fault she has no right...so I got up and went to that wimen and lifted her up and dropped her..like a pole driver move no one notice at first..until people reacted..then I realize I killed her..I shot off..into the dark of the night lost and looking for somewhere to go..

I pulled this card for my full moon energy. I am in college right now so I could be feeling chained to the institution. Or it could be my new relationship. (I pulled it up right). I had the devil card fly out my pack but landed sideways face down so don’t know if I should be reading it upright or reversed but when I picked up it the devil was upright if it’s landed sideways do I take note of both upright and reversed or just go with it as upright
