Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. “I am the vine, you are the branches. The writer of the song, Henry Francis Lyte, lived much of his life with poor health and died from tuberculosis at the age of 54. The lyrics remind us that in relationship with God, He abides with us, even (or perhaps especially) in our darkest hours. They point out the beautiful realities that we discover while abiding (or remaining) in God. God is our helper, our guide, our friend, and our comforter. He is unchanging, kind, good, healing, present, and gracious.
