    1. Discover It
    2. Chase Freedom
    3. Either Citi Double Cash or Freedom Unlimited
    4. Chase Sapphire Prefered
    5. 1 of the 3 Chase Hotel cards
    Your 1st Amex card should be the Platinum with the 100k bonus. I would get which ever Chase cards that you want first and then move on to others.

      Platinum can be upgraded quite quickly to a Quicksilver, typically just 2 or 3 months after getting a Platinum you can upgrade online. It's a really great starter card.

    • @CollaborativeMindAI
      @CollaborativeMindAI 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I've been seeing a trend with CO... If you start with the platinum and upgrade to the quicksilver getting CLI is near impossible. It's like punishment almost for not applying for a new card despite your credit improving.

      K1ng Baldy woah, is that why it’s so hard for me? Out of all my cards CO absolutely refuses to give me CLIs and when they do it’s like $100. Oldest of all my cards with the lowest limit by a lot

      @@Kamryx I called and canceled a 2 year old card with them yesterday. It started as a platinum with a $300 limit when I was rebuilding from identity fraud with a 468 credit score. Fast forward to today those blemishes on my report are gone, never missed a payment and credit score of 715 and I only got the initial bump to $500. Upgraded the card to the Quicksilver with no AF and have been requesting CLI every 3 months constantly denied. They kept saying "you should try applying for a new card" not worth the triple HP imo. I've seen this same issue all over the net so I closed out the account.

      Discover was the first I tried to apply for, when I did the pre-approval process it told me to start with the Secured Card, luckily Capital One had also sent me a letter to apply for the platinum. Got that instead and I was happy with it, Mastercard is way more accepted.

    • @djzero5893
      @djzero5893 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is it the secured Cap1 platinum card? If so it's not going to graduate and AFAIK you can't PC it either anymore (that info in this video was out of date even when it was first posted) so you're stuck with it at the eventual $300 limit increase unless they change their mind again, sure it's a starter card but if you're starting from scratch it's not so great. Discover's can graduate with a much higher potential limit after the seventh statement/eight month mark. I've never had any issue with Discover being accepted in the U.S. But if you need a secured MC or Visa and have immediate family that has military ties I would join Navy Federal Credit Union, their secured card can graduate relatively quickly compared to others and they can be generous with CLIs and very generous after a few months when you can apply for a second card from them.

    2-4. Depends on how you spend:
    Amazon Prime (Amazon and Whole Foods 5%)
    Blue Cash Preferred (Grocery Stores 6% - Spend at least $200 a month not including Walmart or Target or wholesale clubs. Gas 3%)
    BofA Cash Rewards (You Choose: Gas, Online Shopping, Dining , Travel , Drug Stores, or Home Improvement/Furnishings 3%)
    Wells Fargo Propel (Travel, Gas and Dining 3%)
    Citi Double Cash (Everything 2%)
    5. Chase Freedom or USBank Cash+ or One of the above.

      @@princesskkay221 this was from 2 years ago. A lot has changed. Good luck downgrading. Wait for your annual fee to hit after the first year to downgrade and if they let you downgrade ask for your fee to be reimbursed. I say if they let you because they have the tendency to only let you product change to cards with the same annual fee. CSP is a good choice. If you don't want to go crazy deep into what card to use when for the most points and you don't mind the point hustle (maximizing point value when you use them), a great 1 card setup is the Citi Premier card... $95 fee with a $100 hotel credit. Double cash works as a great #2 to this setup and if you want to get deep you can check out their 5% card and the round up card.

      From someone that is 20+ y/o and has 15+ credit cards, I can completely agree with you. It can become a bit of a hassle to manage credit cards that aren’t from the major banks since their mobile apps do not seem to be the best for quickly making payments. However, I took the approach of getting all of those credit cards because I do know that part of your credit score is based on the number of account you have open and it’s recommended to have 10+ open accounts. It might temp leave you with cards that have lower limits, but it can be beneficial years down the road when you’re trying to qualify for a car/mortgage. Just my opinion though!

    This is definitely a good video, however I must disagree with your a few of your card choices. For the first two both of them should be the Capital One Secured Mastercard and Discover It Secured for building up your credit for the first 6 months, it's ideal to get both of them because it can greatly extend the average of your account age having 2 cards opened at the same time, they have no annual fee and it's true that at first you'd probably be wasting the cash back match.. But you really wouldn't be missing much considering how easy it is to get the Citi Double Cash Card, as for the third and fourth cards the Chase Business Ink Cash Card is just fantastic to get (business cards are really easy to get) alongside the Chase Freedom Card (Not the unlimited) for the rotating 5% Cash Back categories and none of them have any annual fees to speak of, just benefits.

    My credit journey was a bit odd:
    1.) Wells Fargo Student Card => PC'ed to Wells Fargo CashWise => PC'ed to Wells Fargo Visa Signature
    2.) Capital One Quicksilver One => PC'ing to SavorOne this month (just got offer).
    I'm very conservative with credit / loans however WF views that with high regard which now sees my total available credit between these two cards at $30k (most of this being WF). They also give me quite favorable interest rates on any loans I get because of this - generally comparable to any credit union which is surprising with them. I'm between the Chase Sapphire Preferred / AMEX Gold as my next Credit Card; not that I need one - just want to round out a credit card profile. I'll be taking this video into account.

      Kendra Sutherland Navy federal is awesome - especially if you’re in the military. They’re pretty great if you’re new to credit cards, but if I’m running under the assumption that you are in the military, there are better options for cash back in certain area. American Express waives the fees for all their charge and credit cards for active duty members. The Amex platinum will get you 6x back on flights, and the Amex cash preferred gets you 6x back on supermarkets and 3x back on gas, valid on post or base if you go to the NEX or AAFES. Check them out!

      yankeesgiants221 why did you choose to upgrade 9 years later? and you got a venture card within 1 year of getting the CO Platinum? that’s like skipping half of the ladder hahaha

      @@trigara6979 Yes, I had it all backwards back in the day 🤣🤣. Had I found Credit Shifu's channel years ago, I would have upgraded my Capital One Platinum to the QuickSilver much sooner. I was also late to the Chase UR game. Oh well! Better late than never, I guess.

      I would highly recommend the discover it credit card as your first card. They pretty much accept everyone especially students like me, have great customer service and are very generous with their credit limits and usually start you off from $500 -1500, and will still give you a credit limit increase after consecutive on-time payments that can really boost your credit score.
