From personal experience, kids always push your boundaries, especially in the beginning to test the waters and see what they can get away with. Different students you have to have a different approach. Some students being too friendly doesn’t work for them. They just need a stern approach where some students respond to more of a friendly approach. The more you get to know the students the better you will get. With students that are struggling with keeping focus in class or doing work I will definitely do a reward system with them getting in touch with the head of year to see how they can get involved with the reward system. You create the most important part is just building a relationship. You might be the only teacher that they listen to. Excited to follow this journey and I’m happy for you.
Also, I forgot to mention I wouldn’t personally mention anything about my personal life. This can give them a wrong impression of you are their friend and they will test your boundaries and make certain comments. You can still have a friendly approach without mentioning anything about your life .At the end of the day these are children still navigating life and they need to be told when they’re doing good and when they’re doing bad.
Oh yesss I agree!! I’ve noticed the longer I’ve been here the better I’m getting to know them and the more I’ve been able to cater to their individual needs! Thank you so much 🥹🥰💖
I totally relate to that. Kids are wild and the most unapologetically honest species I have ever met in my life. My students used to throw such comments in my direction as well when I was a teacher at a junior school. And I struggled just like you, trying to find a balance btwn being nice but also having authority. Hot take is when moments like these arise where the student throws out mean comments, analyze it in your head if what they said is deserving of discipline or not, bcz sometimes they do it just for attention; those are to be ignored. But otherwise with a straight face and a stern voice, look at them in the eyes and tell them "Thats very mean to say, we dont hurt others. You dont repeat tht again. Now say sorry." And then they apologize and takes back wht they said. With consistent discipline when appropriate, they start to learn the boundaries and realize even if teacher is friendly there is still boundaries they can't cross. And thats forms a healthy relationship. Best of luck on your journey!❤❤
You’re gonna be such a great teacher i’a! It’s definitely not for the weak and I don’t think I could ever do secondary, but I was a primary school teacher for 5 years and they always put me with the oldest year group haha. I loved so much of it but it was physically and mentally draining at times - so excited to follow your journey! ❤
OMG YES I was waiting for content about beginning your teaching career, I’m actually starting my own career as an English teacher now too, don’t worry girl we can do this❤️ I’m keeping my fingers crossed for u
STOPPP THE STARTING IS DIABOLICAL💀 icl the uk kids scare me 😭 why they so mean for?? but the way u teach is so good allahummabarik, the way u understand what the kids neeed
I think all kids are typically acting unhinged when with adults, I kind of like that you never know what they are going to say. Definitely if they are being rude then it's not okay, but most of them are just curious and still learning what is okay and not okay when talking with others☺
I think in a school setting, since teachers/TAs are seen as role models, we’re expected to maintain an approachable and practical look that aligns with the school’s culture. Schools emphasise a focus on learning, and an overly glamorous look might send mixed messages about priorities, especially to impressionable students and can be seen as a distraction!
This video was a very justified crash out lolol. Working with kids in general is just always a vibe lolol. You really never know what type of day you're going to have honestly. Some days are draining and hard but some days are just SOOOO rewarding and fun. One summer I was working at a camp and we didn't have the best management or funding. I remember being so stressed out about if I would be able to connect with the kids and stuff. Same day one of the kids go "Is that a demon slayer shirt?? That's so cool!" At that point I was so in my head I forgot what I was wearing lololol but it made my day. Kids are aight I guess 😂
