From those new to balista totems. Make sure if you want to grab a quilrain bow early that you want to grab as high a base level as possible or you will have to force gem slots on it with the crafting bench. Its still a great starting bow and you won't have support gems in the beginning but if you're looking at doing maps you will need to get enough links on your bow. Maxroll!!!
Quill rain is quite easy to get this league. Level a short bow through the league mechanic with a selling item grants unique node guarantees a Quill Rain.

The beauty of a skill like toxic rain is that it has absolutely zero unique requirements in order to get online. Pal made a bow crafting video and in SSF that's probably all you will really need to progress later on beyond the typical defensive layers of life, trying to get ailment immune, spell suppression, etc. In that video he also mentions where you would go to farm the 6 link show bow Porcupine cards so that's there as well. There's really not much more to it. TR scales off gem levels so incredibly well so follow what he's got here, do some crafting come maps via essences/harvest/rog or whatever and you should be well on your way. Hope this helps.
Tips for before level 12 gem setup. Try Puncture + Chance to bleed + MA/Snipe simply because the color is also rgg which can smoothly transfer to Toxic Rain totem setup
Hi. Help. I've bounced off POE a few times over the years. I thought I'd give it another shot, I enjoy the gameplay. I usually bounce off the game over a frustration with getting the required attributes points AND sockets links required AND resistances and a frustration of getting all three before the campaign is over or I start dieing so often it becomes unfun. I always follow a guide but often still have problems, I find it a bit daunting and a bit tedious to manage but I assume it is because I lack some experience with the various systems. My highest character is 48 from past seasons. I'm currently level 37 with this build, I'm liking this build more than I have liked any in the past. I'm about to finish Act 3 and go into act 4. I don't have enough Int for the blue sockets (int is 29, need 49). Barley have enough STR (I have 75, exactly what's required) and my resistances are all very low (sub 30%). I think I have been looking for the right pieces of gear but certainly not getting the drops. I must be missing something and because I like the build I would like to avoid hitting a wall, again. Any tips from anyone out there? How are people getting all these numbers where they need to be...

Sorry Palsteron, I'm in love with toxic rain, but I can't see a better class to pass through all the content then Jugger RF. So far so good. Maybe later I try this build. Even poisonous concotion is expensive at the begining.
basically toxic rain impact dmg is not what you're chasing to improve, its the dot dmg and the pods overlapping you want to focus on which doesn't scale off of weapon dmg, faster attack speed = more pods = more dmg. hope that helps!

In the beginning of the tree Zizaran takes attack speed nodes instead of projectile damage. In the PoB they seem comparable in effect they have on max DPS. Which way is better or does it depends on the build?
That is one of the frustrating parts with Toxic Rain. You'll probably be using a mana flask for the entire campaign, though once you get your 3rd lab, the life recovery from your "enduring life flask" will absolutely let you use lifetap.
is it easy to get the mentioned 2x 3-links and later the 2x 4-links early for the skills? i do not play poe very often and when i remember back to my last league start i think this is a bit ambitious or not?
any suggestion what to spec in, once I get a lot of currency? Preferably something that can do everything, since I dont like to focus only on one map/boss/chase

Can you explain just a bit about how we transition from the leveling tree to the endgame trees? Specifically with regard to auras. We go from purity of elements and skitterbots to malev, haste, and petrified blood which requires a small mana reservation cluster jewel. Before we have the cluster, should we continue to run the leveling auras? or switch the some of the endgame auras and add the remaining when we get the cluster jewel, and if so, which end game auras should we take first before we get the cluster jewel?
Hey Palsteron, just wanted to ask. How does the damage scale into mid-late game with toxic rain? From what I understand since it's a league starter it won't be that gear dependent at the beggining, but never really ran a full chaos damage builds so it seems a bit confusing.
you caneasily run t16 map with the lat gear set/tree he put in the pob. TR isnt the best uber and boss kiler and falls off there at some point but thats rather late. If you are looking for a 1 build all league EA Ballista is the wa to go
Toxic rain is really good for blitzing campaign and maps, then getting down all non-ubers. I like rerolling so I may play a build like this and then swap either to a different ranger build or just sell the toxic rain gear and buy another build.
There seems to be some issues with your POB notes section. It says at level 8 grab 2 x faster attacks. faster attacks isnt purchasable until act 2 i thought?

Correct. Not really any of the chaos masteries are that valuable for this build. 1 - You don't need the recovery because of master surgeon later on. 2 - The +1 to level is nice, but the downside is usually never worth it. 3 - +1% to max chaos res is nice, but just capping it is enough. 4 - Phys to chaos is useless on TR. 5 - Very situational pick. Waste of a skill point. 6 - Also a waste of a skill point. This build should have no issue applying wither stacks.
Correction: In Lvl 12+ Self-Cast and Ballista Setup use Toxic Rain, not Shrapnel Ballista. Overlay bug.

I was doing a small test run with CA/Ballista last night and Brutus just melted, very smooth experience.
Hyrri's Bite is also a pretty good quiver throughout the campaign. It can be crafted from vendor recipe as well

What you’re missing is the crafting bench. It’s in your Hideout, and allows you to deterministically apply affixes to your gear.

I tested both, ca+tr ballista isnt bad at all, but you kill bosses way faster with self cast Tr (double tr setup)

I’m confused, toxic rain is an attack that scales off the damage of the weapon so how doesn’t it impact the damage if toxic rain? I’m new to PoE

wither on left click, that said it all :)) then wither is usless, u need activate only when u need more dmg to some boss
PF has auto proc on wither its just there as a little help and movement speed
Nature's reprisal takes care of the Wither effect. The withering step is movement

The Pob says before the small cluster you should simply use malev + petrified

I can only speak for frenzy, which only needs level 1 because it is only used for frenzy stacks
Level despair and purity, frenzy stays at level 1 as we want the mana cost to stay low

Feared is easy on both, ubers are better on EA. But if you want to only farm Ubers, there's better stuff than totems out there!
