I know I will get criticized for saying this but here goes, people in Florida, Louisiana, and Texas would consider Florence more of a tropical storm than a hurricane

We are accustomed to it here in NC too, this isn't nearly as bad as we were first expecting when it was a cat4. The problem this storm is bringing isn't really the wind though. The fact the the ground was already saturated here and some places having flooding issues before this storm is going to be the problem. This storm is HUGE in size and bringing a lot of water.

I won't criticize, but I will say you have to start changing your viewpoint of hurricane hits on the coast. With rising oceans a fact, storm surges and storm speed considerations on the rain factor can be more damaging than the sheer force of winds, which was always the damning factor of a hurricane. I don't think that is the case anymore. Its the flood and saturation factor. Start picturing hurricanes as a vertical column 300-400 miles wide of water, a tidal wave if you will, of water passing over. The wind slams that volume against you, but 126mph or 80 mph water volume slamming into you doesn't really matter at that point, its how much damage 100s of thousands of Olympic pools crashing into you and the landscape around you is going to be affected.

      Nope. Florida here. That's a monster .
They are not showing the 12 ft floods, g the high winds that knocked the trees down, and blew a part of a gas station. Thousands of people with no electric (pitch black night), and no running water except for the rain. That's a monster.
People should get out when they know a 125mph hurricane is going to hit their shore.....it's just common sense.
