I was down there on Saturday and saw this thing in person. Pretty rough seas, and that wind was absolutely howling from the east. Gonna need some calmer weather and some serious tug boats to dislodge that thing. Someone's in for a damn expensive recovery bill.

Yeah, I feel like the meter on recovery bill is running pretty fast. Getting worse by the day.

Boat Salvage laws differ from state to state. NJ has a 30-day rule. The rules for boats found in internal waters are different.

Can you explain in greater detail

@@NJRenewableEnergyWith so many boats in Florida, they do it differently. I'm sure this is to protect the boat owner. "In the State of Florida there are no "Vessel Salvage Rights". In order to claim title to an abandoned vessel, you must follow the Statutes for Found Property. 705.102 FS requires a person to report found property to Law Enforcement. After this has been done, you may begin the process of claiming found property."

@@NJRenewableEnergy Wikipedia on international waters and law of salvage. "The law of salvage is a principle of maritime law whereby any person who helps recover another person's ship or cargo in peril at sea is entitled to a reward commensurate with the value of the property salved.
Maritime law is inherently international, and although salvage laws vary from one country to another, generally there are established conditions to be met to allow a claim of salvage.[1] The vessel must be in peril, either immediate or forthcoming; the "salvor" must be acting voluntarily and under no pre-existing contract; and the salvor must be successful in their efforts, though payment for partial success may be granted if the environment is protected."

Yes - After a vessel is abandoned for a specific amount of time it become salvage.

That vessel is manned, been working in the commercial fishing industry for over 27 years and feel bad about this situation. No sporty urinal owning wanna be is going to take possession of this vessel.

It will be dragged off the beach. It still amazes me how so many commercial fishing vessels have crappy ground gear. If they had a proper anchor and rode they'd probably not have ended up on the beach. I laugh at some of the anchor sets on most commercial vessels like this.

All commercial fishing boats have to have a proper anchor for the size boat... It's part of the inspection.
Why they didn't use it I guess they're the only ones that know that.... It's easy to say what someone would have done if they weren't even there.
      Situations happen.

@@paulerrickson9240 I am a commercial fisherman and the captain of a vessel fishing these waters year round. My insurance guy never gave the anchor a second look other than ok there's your anchor. According to my friend who runs a vessel that was nearby said he saw the ais track and they drove right up on the beach. 200 dollar Bridge watch could've saved this from happening.

@@robertfreeman2322 I'm a commercial fisherman for 38 years mostly out of point pleasant all I'm saying is if you weren't there you don't know what happened.
You being a commercial fisherman should already have an idea how this could have happened...
It probably had nothing to do with having an anchor.
With that said you are probably right about a $200. Bridge watch....it may have prevented this.
      And that's enough said..
