Jonathan Edwards I KNOW that you were that good. Your mechanical efficiency was so exceptional that it allowed you to carry your speed through all of the jump phases. Being 2” taller, I believe that Christian Taylor could be the first man over 61’ if he could be as efficient in his phases.
My main event in high school and college was the triple jump. All the components of Jonathan's jumps were what the rest of us were visualizing for ourselves. But his insane runway speed and height on each phase seem supernatural. It gives me a sublime joy to watch Jonathan Edwards jump.
Super athlete in this event because you have to nail so many different elements in one performance: the run up, take off, first jump, take off again, second jump, third take off, third jump. and final landing. Does it all perfectly. Wow!
For me he is the jumping Pope . Perfect in every sense. Sincere polite and also a great teacher. England should give him every title lord sir maharadza etc.
Yesterday, i wasnt even into this kind of sport, cause im a football coach and football has been it all. Now im addicted to this. I remember watching all kinds of sports with my grandfather untill he died, but after he passed it allways was football. Now im back =D
It seems Edwards was born specifically for the triple jump event. He was so strong on all aspects of the jump. Some run faster, some are likely better at just a single jump . . . but tying it altogether, whew, he really stands out! Great video! Brad
I don't think that 18:43 jump will ever be beaten in my lifetime. What a jump that was! His foot was at the back of the board at take off too. Shame about the windspeed.... But still, that jump was incredible.
Not disallowed, it was the winning jump, it just wasn't legal for record purposes as the windspeed was 2.4 metres per second, 0.4 over the allowable speed.
I remember being small and watching him and I never really took in how iconic this was and when you realise the length of time that has gone by and know one has beaten it. Unbelievable. Ahead of his time.
the slo mo is fantastic. shows the liitle techniques in each phase ..........upright torso throughout, arms alwys in front of the body, dorsi flexion of the ankles, etc. beautiful. high school and college coaches take note.
Oh ya can tell he was a burner watching him run. Fast-twitch for sure. Love watching the long jump competitions but I really get into the triple jump so, so much more. And this man is a legend of the sport. Great upload
+Daincus um ..nope hardly anybody does it now its not very glamorous and sadly people just couldn't give a shit about ,its a shame I think its really cool
in the history of sports, there aren't that many that you look at and clearly know if they're in the zone, no one is going to beat them. lionel messi, muhammad ali, ronnie o'sullivan they were/are just geniuses in their field. edwards is right there alongside them.
1:34 explains he was an aerodynamical miracle in human form because you must loose momentum in 2. and 3. jumps but he does not; living proof of white men can jump gooooooood.... [i am waiting for juan miguel echevarria he has potential to surpass this serenity]
I ate two tubs of popcorn at the movies last week and subsequently expelled a 14 inch turd. Not sure what that is in meters but remarkable nonetheless. If anyone would like an autographed pic they are available.
That 18.43m jump is probably the most amazing thing I have ever seen in any track and field athletics event. Poetry in motion was never more apt.
Even the new world record doesn’t look as clean as when edwards did it
@@veganwafflenew record? Lmao
@@joys8634 I was thinking about liu xiang lol
@@veganwaffle no one else has done it. It’s a record that still stands
@@joys8634 The WR is the 18.29 by Edwards, cause the 18.43 was wind aided.
Jonathan Edwards is the reason why there is the 19 meter mark in international competitions.
Thank you so much I don't think I'm that good
I've got a hand writing autograph of you on a drawing of you on my desk!
That GREAT🤗But in a normal sort of way🤔🤔😊
William Burns it's probably an imposter.
Well your 60' has been pretty tough to beat. Balance and speed helped you have great results.

That 18.43 slightly wind aided was flawless perfection.

You know you are special when you jump further than the measuring board.
It's a sure sign you set a record
For me he is the jumping Pope . Perfect in every sense. Sincere polite and also a great teacher. England should give him every title lord sir maharadza etc.
Does he also cover up paedophilia in the church like the 'perfect' Pope?
The "Triple Jump MAN" for EVER! Thanks Jonathan for incredible competitions and world record that will perhaps holds till 2030...

Surprisingly his long jump pb was a mere 7.41m. He probably never really did long jump anyway though.
Still, about 24 feet, although not olympic worthy, is still very good.
Brad Reid it always appear to me that his body fat percentage is zero.
Ben Sullivan he is probably a little bit too thin therefore a bit too slow for a good long jumper. but by god, he was born to reign in triple jump.
@@bensullivan5562 He hardly ever did the LJ, no doubt he could have done better.

Jonathan Edwards has perfect strong and elastic hamstring system! 👑👑👑
For always, the best triple jumper ! So cool so beautiful to watch 👍. Thanks Mr Edwards
Best triple jumper ever his speed on runway was ridiculous

Thank god he came to terms with competing on the sabbath otherwise we may have missed his true greatness.
Jonathan Edwards triple jump world record is untouchable for the next couple of decades
For such a small island. Great Britain really does produce absolute legends. Makes you proud to be british.

Jonathan, kidda, imo the greatest track n field world record. 24ct GOLD!
That jump at 2:20 just about takes my breath away every time. Everything about it is perfect.
The hop on that jump must have been 7m+
That is just sweet to watch. Freaky good form.
great vid bro, I don't do triple jump but this is still good motivation for your triple jump fans
Это просто чудо какое то! Спасибо за видео!😲
Jonathan Edwards... perfect form...
I like a man with a spring to his step. All joking aside , he was a phenomenal athlete and a real genuine human being.
The most graceful athlete I have ever seen.
Johnathan Edwards is a legend
Still the world record holder! 18.29 meters will be extremely hard to beat
One of the triple-jumpers of all-time.
The Great One, Jonathan Edwards....

nunber athlete. complete in all aspects. I would really like to know him or see him at least.😍😍
Legend 😭❤
The only man to ever jump 60 ft triple jump. And probably the only one ever in the world to come.
Well, as they say, records are made to be broken. This one has stood for quite awhile, but won't last forever.
+PongGod nobody does the triple jump ,if it was a 100 metres sprint it would have been broken in 1996
