First meeting on Calder's new extended layout. Harvey pulled a surprise by putting his Commodore on the front row alongside Fury, and leading the opening laps.

Point of Interest:
Allan Grice was away competing in Europe at this time
but you will see Graeme Bailey in his VK Chickadee Commodore.
When Grice returned from Europe, he flew straight to Mount
Panorama in Bob Jane's helicopter and won the Bathurst 1000
with Bailey in that car.

I dont mind showing my age because the racing in the early 70's through to the late 90's was just fantastic, truly entertaining & also there was a very broad & varied
number of different makers/models as well as class categories giving different teams with different budgets a fair go. I admit it wasn't without some complaints re slower back markers etc, but that was motor racing.
It really didn't matter what you personally drove, somewhere out on the circuit there would probably be one to cheer on, Now everything in my opinion is so closely matched & bunched together only divided by Millie seconds, it just seems like a freight train. only punctuated with heart stopping edge of the seat mechanical failure.
One final thought, back then you could tell the make with just a glance, now they all look like a bowl of Rice bubbles (I mean One looks the same as the other) with a V8, my most favourite racing these days are the Touring car Masters.
