Hello guys and welcome to my channel,
today we are gonna discover together how's the Duomo of Montecchio Maggiore,in Vicenza (Italy).
    what about it?
The church of Santa Maria and San Vitale, locally nicknamed the cathedral, is a neo-Gothic style church located in Montecchio Maggiore. At the time of its construction, in the 1860s, the chosen place was at the meeting point of the two districts that made up the municipality of Montecchio Maggiore, on the square called piazza del mercato and later piazza Marconi, dominated by Palazzo Gualdo and in the background the hill with the castles of Romeo and Juliet. It is dedicated to San Vitale of Milan.
The decision to build a new church for the parish is due to the archpriest Don Antonio Simionati, a priest who arrived in Montecchio in 1846. The idea of the construction was dictated by the conditions of age of the ancient parish, to which they had not dedicated themselves for some time care and restoration, and by the increase in population which required a more spacious place of worship. The church, later demolished, had origins prior to 1000 (probably Longobard) and was the source of inspiration for all the churches in the Chiampo and Agno valleys, which converged here.
Having obtained the approval of the project from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, the way was opened for other administrative steps and, no less important, the search for funding for the construction. Subsequently, in 1871, a commission for the supervision and execution of the works of the new temple was established, and a regulation on the tasks and commissions of the latter was also drawn up.
The works began between 12 and 28 September 1873. On 27 September of the following year the official ceremony of the blessing and laying of the first stone of the sacred building took place. On the day of the ceremony, the notary Pietro Ceccato drafted the notarial deed of the ceremony, which, written on parchment, was placed under the blessed stone inside a glass tube also containing some coins of the time.
The works seemed to proceed expeditiously but there was no lack of differences and misunderstandings among the project managers, which prompted Eng. Volebele formally renounced the supervision of the works on 26 July 1883. From the summer of the same year, Eng. Giovanni Zambler, who made substantial changes to the initial project, which included the suppression of some windows and the opening of other large mullioned windows in the upper part of the nave. However, Zambler's project did not seem to satisfy the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, which complained of the insufficient graphic documentation of the project. After many controversies for approval, only in the winter of 1886 was the project approved.
From 1887 the works resumed expeditiously, under the watchful eye of the master builder Gerardo Marchioro; the cathedral began to take a definitive shape, and the roof was soon completed. With solemn blessing the church was inaugurated on 21 August 1892; in memory of the event, a plaque was affixed to a wall of the sacristy.
The bell tower, which rises to the left of the church, is of more recent construction than the cathedral. With the construction of the church, a small bell tower was erected which did not exceed 10 meters in height. It served until 1955, when it was demolished to make way for the new bell tower. In the spring of 1948, at the behest of the then archpriest Don Francesco Ferrari, work began on the construction of the new bell tower. . The works were completed in 1955.
The temple was built entirely with stones extracted from the quarries of the hills overlooking the town of Montecchio, a fact that inseparably links the architecture to its landscape, as per the will of the creators of the temple.
Inside the church are preserved altars and paintings from the demolished ancient parish church, including an eighteenth-century altarpiece by the Vicenza painter Giovanni Antonio De Pieri, a fifteenth-century triptych in stone. In addition to minor works of the nineteenth century, there are frescoes by the painter Carlo Costantino Tagliabue [2] made in 1909, while contemporary works include a Via Crucis and a large crucifix painted in fourteenth-century style.

Art is not just something that is in books or on some sheets. Art is all around us, we ourselves are a unique and unrepeatable work of art! How nice is it to be able to treat yourself to the experience of going to more or less distant places? Places that we have only seen in a book or a video...paintings or sculptures that we so much wanted to "meet"! Being there, in that moment, is almost surreal and gives us so many loving, benevolent and healing emotions. These are always experiences that go beyond all levels (including those in contact with nature).
