Nice intro on the Preferences component of Brilliance Ai and thanks for including the Portrait example. This will sure make setup easier when I do the upgrade from 2023.
Thank you Scott. I know this was just a short video to explain the process of Brilliance AI and I think you did a great job doing that. One thing that jumped out to me in a bad way was the last portrait image you showed. I understand you didn't tweak or adjust to your style, but the after was way worse as the guy looked way too warm and almost like he just painted on a tan. Obviously the user can adjust the amount of the effect just as you could in previous versions of ON1. However, many examples I've seen so far seem to create an over warm or even red skin toned image. I didn't see the redness in your image but it was certainly very warm in tone. With anything, I'm sure software will be updated and adjustments will dial that in in a more realistic way. Curious what your experience is so far and also thank you again for providing valuable content and information.
Hi Keith… I see a few “misses” with AI (in general, not unique to Brilliance) though not enough to establish a pattern yet. For portraits, even less so (not my typical genre). If and when I find a pattern that Brilliance generally does to my images I want to override, I’ll fine tune the default behavior of the AI in the preferences to suit my tastes.
I have to agree, I thought the same thing looking at that person that the result was just awful. I would expect to have a result that gets you to a good starting point, but rather that is a result that makes you not want to use the feature. Curious on whether it was your initial settings? Or was that right out of the box? Of course, the example they show on the promo video gives you a perfect skin tone......
Thank you, Scott! Excellent as usual! I'm just getting started with On1 Photo Raw 2024. I've watched 3 of your videos on Brilliance AI -- haven't watched the advanced part yet. First thing that seems very obvious to me is that this seems to be one of the biggest changes to the interface that I can remember and practicing a little with some of my photos, I finding my way around. A couple things I notice is tha it changed my personal preset for dynamic contrast ( the opacity setting) which I can fix. But the masks it creates for local adjustments need refining. But where is the refine brush? It must be there somewhere. After learning from many of your other videos and with practice I felt pretty comfortable with On1 PR 2023, but feel like On1 has through me a bit of a curve ball here requiring a bit of a steep learning curve to become familiar with where everything is. Granted, I know I need to give myself time to master this new version, but so far, I'm not sure I like all the AI automation in particular with the AI local adjustments and it's masks especially not knowing yet how to refine those masks. I'm sure with watching more of your tutorials, I'll figure it out. In the meantime I still have 2023 installed that I suppose I can fall back on. Thanks again for all the great tutorials. I really prefer them to most others out there that cover On1 PR.
All of the masking tools (brush, gradient, quick, line, and refine tools) are consolidated into a single Mask tool group. Choose that group from the tool well on the left, then use the popup menu in the upper right to choose a specific masking tool.
Ah, Ok! got it. I had looked there and missed the drop down menu. It will take me a little getting used to the popup-popdown menus, but I understand the reason is to save screen space. I notice lens corrections are not sticky and am wondering if there is a setting for that. Thank you!@@ScottDavenport

Hey Scott, I have another question for you concerning presets. Do On1 raw have any presets like Lightroom has for portraits? It seems like 95% of all the writing on youtube only deals with Landscape photos when it comes to ON1 Raw. I have to admit one of the luring things about Lightroom is the writers aren't afraid to deal with editing portraits on a daily basis. The presets that deal with the face and individual parts of the face and body are very very appealing but it seems like on1 can do the same thing it just needs to be talked about more. I prefer to stay in On1 unless I have to go into Photoshop or Neo. Can you discuss apples to apples Lightroom's workflow vs On1 workflow? Tell me what you think and how can I make On1 act as if it was lightroom.
Hi Mark... You are correct that with ON1 and Portrait AI, you can craft presets that auto-treat faces. Or Mask AI for that matter (have it detect people). And yeah... I'm a landscape photographer, so that is where my focus is and what my content will center around. If you haven't already, direct that feedback to the crew at ON1 for more portrait-oriented tutorials. Apples to apples LR/ON1 workflow... tall order. Everyone's workflow is different, and they are two different tools.
Not that I've seen, Harry. You can refine Brilliance AI behavior in the preferences to your taste (ex: you find it too aggressive, you can dial its default behavior back), but it won't learn that from you automatically. There *is* the AI Style Advisor which does learn from your edits, watching what Effects filters you add. Though that's the 'style' part of editing w/ Effects.

Does Brilliance AI learn from the user as we edit images or is it only coming from ON1 in each iteration that they release?
