Dear Sarah, what you've just spent on groceries is what we used to spend 25 years ago in Canada for the same amount of food. 20 years ago in US (yes, I lived there too) this much money would buy us not even a half of what you've got. Inflation right now is everywhere.
If you like yogurt, then you should also try polish butter milk called ,,maślanka''. Its very good, the taste is more creamy, delicate than yougurt. You can find maślanka - natural and with many other flavours like apple, strawberries, baked pear etc. Flavoured ones are very delicius, but theres sugar added unfortunately.
The inflation is pretty bad here in Canada too. We eat very similar to the way you eat and we spent about $500 CAD for the grocery this week, though it is for 4 adults. And we don't buy any wine and don't have pets. One year ago we were spending no more than $300 per week. We spend more money for food monthly than for rent and we don't live in Toronto. You still have it good in Poland despite the inflation. I am Polish, so we are seriously thinking of moving back to Poland at some point in the future when my husband retires and I finish my professional training. So, thank you for this information. Continue to keep us updated.
Hi. I have advice for you. Look around for a market with food stalls. You can buy fresh fruit and vegetables from the farmer in the summer season. Also eggs milk and butter or cottage cheese. I used to live in Nowa Huta and there is a big market in the Bieńczyce district. Farmers come here with their products. And the prices are usually lower.
It is worth buying cakes and bread in small local bakeries, such run by family businesses. Avoid chain stores like "under the telegraph" because instead of eggs, they give egg powder and lots of preservatives.
I still spend approximately the same amount in zloty on groceries in Lublin, Poland as I spend in dollars on groceries in Wheaton, Illinois. (I spend equal amount of time in both countries). That is approximately 1/4th in USD that I spend in Poland for similar items. Bear in mid, I am very health minded and opt for organic foods whenever I can find them. You might want to explore two more affordable chains in Poland - Stokrotka and Biedronka.
"Organic egs". Zawsze mnie to trochę śmieszy, bo to poprostu zwykłe jajka w kształcie jajka, w proszku to nie ma kształtu jajka, chyba za bardzo komplikuję sprawe :D
I was back in the US over November/December 2021 and was shocked at how expensive things were! My family has been telling me that things have just gone up since then, too. Crazy!
Please dont give guests this "cake". Buy a fresh one. They will pack it in paper or box in front of you. Cakes and bread are great in Poland. You are missing out buying low quality in a huge store.
Yes, I know there are great options available! This day, I happened to be in a big hurry and it was the most convenient option. But yes, the bakeries here are amazing!

Yeah, inflation is hitting us hard to in the states. (Chicago). Off topic, how’s the Poles demeanor about the war? I have a Ukrainian friend who fled and is now living in Zielona Gora Poland. She tells me it’s beautiful and the food is so much better but she worries it won’t last. She thinks Putin won’t stop with Ukraine. That he will go after Poland next. What’s your thoughts? I know it’s off topic but I’m interested what an ex pat living in Poland has to say. Thanks. 👍🏻
Don't worry about Poland. Start worrying about the US. Because when the hell breaks loose, some parts of Poland burns in hellfire, but ALL the US burns... It's sad but true.
There is no indication that Putin will go to Poland or any other country at this point. The only thing that would drive that is if those countries continue to antagonize Russia. If Russia and Ukraine are allowed to duke it out alone, then there is no way it will go further. People are fighting the last war instead of dealing with the current one.
Here in Polska we are ready to go down with pride and glory instead of living a life of covard . Our ancestors paid with their blood for us to enjoy that freedom . If Russians will attack us we will simply destroy them cause they will lack a will to fight . It would be disasterous but not for poles . Blessings !!
Sarah, that "sound from a well" AND the background thumping on the top of it is NOT a very good idea. Do yourself (and us) a favour - get some decent (just decent, not "high end" one) microphone, and DON'T, for Christ sake, add any superfluous noise to your videos. (The acoustics of your home are bad enough, no need to ruin the soundtrack any further ;-) I decided to watch this video even though (as a guy) I'm not really that much interested in all that "grocery price comparison" stuff (women LOVE it, but men hardly) - yet, after skipping the intro and going straight into "Grocery haul part 1" part, merely 20 SECONDS into it I'm not sure I want actually to watch it - or rather "LISTEN to it". Now, this is not any "criticism" or "complaint" - it is merely a friendly advice. You can do as you please, but then... "peoples", y'know. Hard to please lot, them awful "viewers"... ;-)
Smacznego! 😁

Stokrotka is one of the most expensive chains. Kaufland is cheaper.

I think at least to next elections ;) but it is just 5%. This are selected items so it can last long this reduced VAT
Yeah but salaries in Poland albo growths fast about 11-12% per annum.
So still slower than inflation, especially in relation to food.

I must agree. I stopped listening after one minute.
