I think the amount of vertical bands of carving should depend on the form of the piece itself, like making the seam of the top and bottom lines match where the form changes angles on the profile - which is why I think you liked the single line on the straight formed cup!
Love the mug shape - the carving compliments it very well. I appreciate that you demonstrated how to use the basic tool for carving - those beginner tools are what I started carving with and remain my favorite, it's not always about the newest most expensive tool out there. Your explanations are thorough, informative and convey confidence to the inexperienced potter - you can do this 💪🏼👍🏼. Always enjoy your videos -
Also if that tool isn't for carving, A) Why did you use it for carving anyway, and B) What is it really used for (I know you probably said it already, I just don't remember off the top of my head that's all lol)?
Wow for that 3rd technique, I actually didn't even know you were going to do that that's pretty dope. I thought you were going to do something totally different like carve at the top then stop, carve at the middle then stop, and lastly carve at the bottom then stop instead of carving the top, then carving the bottom, then gauging out the middle like that like I said I did not expect that at all. Aren't you going to ruin the clay if you gauge it out like that at the end especially in the middle?
