Fun fact: The defender (Yamamoto Hideomi) that gave away a penalty in the final is a 42 year old veteran that came on at the 112th minute and has been at Kofu since 2003. He was able to redeem himself by scoring the last penalty in the PK round.
As a J League fan, it's always great when you cover Japanese football. Kofu's run in the cup was insane, massive chads. Getting featured on the official J League channel is also a massive W
In Argentina something similar happened last year with the Copa Argentina (the equivalent of Emperor cup). Patronato, a humble club from Entre Rios, was relegated due to a complicated system of average points per season after making an extraordinary season which was very unfair. Just 16 days later they won the Copa Argentina after beating 1st division Talleres, which is not the most incredible part of their run, since on the way to the final they beat River Plate and Boca Juniors, the 2 Argentina giants
their manager used to manage my country singapore, he was one of the best and gave us some identity.. so happy to see him enjoy success even though his work has been undone by a different manager
Another good cup story (on the somewhat older side) is Hødd winning the norwegian football cup in 2012, while being saved from relegation to the third level on goal difference.
Thanks for this one! I love learning more about Japanese club football. As a Nisei American Arsenal fan, I was blown away to discover that before arriving at North London, Arsène Wenger was managing the Nagoya Grampus Eight, the club from the city my dad was born and raised in!
Never thought my favorite team would be mentioned in a Maqwell video. But not surprised we got branded as an Chelsea industry plant. Appreciate the love. (Loved the video and Mike Havenaar will forever be one of the weirdest strikers we ever had)
The J-League, both J1 and J2 are slowly gaining on me Its like watching south american football because of the atmosphere and all the players are just lovable, plus the football is fun as hell
that was a awesome video as always amazed at your talent for spinning a story, i'm going to Japan in November definitely gonna snag a J League team shirt while i'm there
I was actually keeping a very minor eye on Ventforet Kofu ever since I heard that they beat Consodale Sapporo (the team I kinda root for in Japan, don't ask why it's a long story). Its very nice seeing a second divison club (especially one which finished 18th out of 22 clubs) win the whole fucking thing. I'll be looking forward to seeing them in the AFC Champions League in 2023. Also love seeing you grow bigger and bigger and getting the recognition you deserve. You have come a long way from that Venezia video at 6k subs.
While it's not exactly the same, Ventforet Kofu's story reminds me of the manga/anime Giant Killing. The way they rise from the bottom (a J2 club that became a yo-yo club even after the crisis has ended) to the top (Japan's Super Cup title challengers) reminds me so much of the club East Tokyo United (ETU) from the manga/anime.
I just found this channel around world cup time. And I must say, your video essays are pretty mint, the memes the precisely detailed information. Chef kiss. You should definitely think about doing one on the South African national team. It's a dumpster fire I tell you.
Incredible underdog stories like this are only possible with pro/Reg. Yes I know the open cup is played, but the real joy of this story is that the club fought its way to the top league several times after nearly disbanding, got knocked down again just to then win this cup.
You know, i think Japan will probably be the next football super power, i said on 2014, "its only a matter of time until Japan are a real threat", and then told that was insane and would never happen, theyre not at the point where they could win the world cup but theyre closer than people think, in terms of how far theyve come since the early 90's, Japan's development over the last 30 years for me has been the best in the world, ots why i dont worry about you guys, i see the US going down a similar road, oh and by the way congrats on the J-league gig man
I must admit the title made it look like it was about the Japanese National Team. Glad I decided to watch it; this video is excellent! What a club Kofu are!
Hey Maqwell! I'm new at watching football, in fact, I started watching this World Cup, but I don't know anything with leagues and all that stuff... Can you tell me what league to watch or tournaments?
Wow!!!An interesting story of Ventforet Kofu, one of my favourite respective Japanese sided daily and ever and their achievements in the Japanese football as one of the respective smallest clubs in the nation, saved from being extinct and won the Emperor Cup to qualify for the AFC Champions League, good friends!!!LONG LIVE,VENTFORET KOFU!!!🏋️♂️🏋️♂️🏋️♂️🏋️♂️🏋️♂️🏋️♂️🏋️♂️🏋️♂️🏋️♂️🏋️♂️🏋️♂️🏋️♂️🏋️♂️🏋️♂️🏋️♂️🏋️♂️🏋️♂️🏋️♂️🏋️♂️🏋️♂️🏋️♂️🏋️♂️🏋️♂️🏋️♂️🏋️♂️🏋️♂️🏋️♂️🏋️♂️🏋️♂️🏋️♂️

There was similar upsets in the Chinese football, when Wuhan Three Towns claimed the first CSL in the last year. This success was a huge upset, but also more controversial. Huge upset because they spent two years before outside the CSL and that the club was almost dying because the city was the birthplace of the Covid-19 global pandemic that ignited a financial crisis. To make things even better, but literally strange, Tianjin Teda was unable to stage a decider game because of Covid issues with their players. As a result, CFA declared that game as void, with Wuhan automatically won 3-0 and also the league cause they had superior goal differences over Shandong Taishan.
The old man breaking down in tears at 11:15 says all you need to know about how much this meant.
i saw that video circling around twitter from the j league english twitter
You know when your boy is featured on JLeague, these new videos will be SLAMMERS

enough to make a grown man cry
Just like Gonzalo montiel in the wc final except Mbappé actually made the penalty
11:17 SOMEBODY give this old man a hug. PLEASE
ikr that one hit me in the feels
That emperor's cup final was unbelievable. Good luck to Kofu in the super cup and the ACL
As a J League fan, it's always great when you cover Japanese football. Kofu's run in the cup was insane, massive chads. Getting featured on the official J League channel is also a massive W
no one gonna talk about 9:07? Instead of staying down for the pen he instantly got up with the cleanest touch and a composed finish. Absolute Class.

He did his best in a dysfunctional football team and association. But FAS is a bloody circus. Glad he is doing well now.
@@CassiopeiaOnYT yep, fas is clueless with their appointment of nishigaya.. we had managers like Constantine but we chose a j3 league manager haiz

You should totally make a video on the Bundesliga team Union Berlin, I have read a lot that all the fans are really passionate.
Never thought my favorite team would be mentioned in a Maqwell video. But not surprised we got branded as an Chelsea industry plant. Appreciate the love. (Loved the video and Mike Havenaar will forever be one of the weirdest strikers we ever had)
Definitely deserved to win against us.
they are now in the round of 16 in AFC, Amazing club story
That final shootout though. No drama just straight shooting. Loved it.
going to college in Japan next fall, and I’m absolutely obsessed with Japanese football. So cool to see it covered
We need a documentary on Italy's downfall please
Congrats on the JLeague feature man wtf, that's incredible
The J-League, both J1 and J2 are slowly gaining on me
Its like watching south american football because of the atmosphere and all the players are just lovable, plus the football is fun as hell
Awesome video. Great to see you featured on the official channel. Looking forward to the match tomorrow. Keep up the good work.
Man, so happy for you. Great that you're involved with J.League, I know you'll do a terrific job.
that was a awesome video as always amazed at your talent for spinning a story, i'm going to Japan in November definitely gonna snag a J League team shirt while i'm there

I always enjoy these videos of yours when you talk about leagues and national teams that i know little or nothing about!
As a Sanfrecce fan I was bummed about losing to Ventforet but at least we won the league cup final so I'm super happy for Kofu.
omg the balloons on the kendo masks, im dying
Omg is that a daily upload on the Maqwell channel
I just wish that Sagan Tosu would be good. I love their kits so much. Thats the team that I start with every time in fifa career mode
Incredible underdog stories like this are only possible with pro/Reg. Yes I know the open cup is played, but the real joy of this story is that the club fought its way to the top league several times after nearly disbanding, got knocked down again just to then win this cup.
Mitsuhira basically having the same story as Ichiban from Yakuza (in regards to his wild hairstyle)
Watched this live. The atmosphere in the stadium was amazing.
Animes and Zico made me love Japan
More on the JLeague please. This was awesome video
4:00 Excellent meme usage.
Ventrofet kofu is the real fairy tale story team in football❤
"The art of Maqwell"
Maqwell you legend

Kasuga Ichiban plays in the JLeague? Never not expect something from him
BACK TO BACK MAQWELL POSTS🎉
I was there and saw the match. So sad they couldn't win it all, but still exciting.

This was so well done. Nice Job
Vid 175 of waiting for the San Marino career mode.
J LEAGUE CONTENT
you should make a video about the story of brazil in 2014, from favorites to 7 - 1.
INCOMING ARSENAL FAILURE VIDEO LETS GOOOO
From where did you get the picture of the first Kofu club(FCK) team? In it, I found my teacher of soccer when I was in Junior High school in Kofu.
Great Video man! Ever since Japan pulled those upsets in Qatar I became very interested in the J-League..
New Maqwell video yeassssirrrrre
Hey Maqwell, are you planning on doing any AFC Champions League content anytime soon?
I must admit the title made it look like it was about the Japanese National Team. Glad I decided to watch it; this video is excellent! What a club Kofu are!

I was gonna say fans look buzzing but tbf they did, I was also the 1000th like
the celeste music is cool
please talk more about jleague
good shit twin
Should have been named Kofutbal Club but Ventforet is pretty cool I guess
I thought you were going to talk about the run of the Japanese National Team in Qatar.
This team gives me vibes of Jeonnam Dragons in K League who were a K League 2 club but won the Korean FA CUP in 2021 against K League 1 club Daegu FC.
This might be kinda dumb, but why does the Kofu team lift like 7 trophies at the 11:27 mark?
Hopefully asia gets more resources to become more competitive
Stream doesn’t work in Australia rip
1:40 Infamous means being know for a bad reason. I doubt have nice view of Mount Fuji is bad.
Good point
Are you using Fullmetal alchemist music in the background ?
Fast forward to 2023*
Maqwell we need to know do you watch Inazuma Eleven or Bluelock?

hell yeah I love me a good underdog story
There's a manga called Giant Slayer or Sum its a football Manga it's good. 👍🏾
Anything outside of Europe Im all for!
The anime giant killing is nice
weebs always conpare the Japanese squad to Blue Lock anime series but as you know in the world cup The Samurai Blue doesn't use strikers like the anime, because they dont bring Kyogo Furuhashi to the WC
Real Football fans knew that Japan squad more likely to be compared to GIANG KILLING anime because of the underdog tittle
