In the ever-evolving renewable energy sector, traditional horizontal axis wind turbines(HAWT) may soon be replaced by more streamlined and higher-productivity vertical axis wind turbines(VAWT). A study conducted by Oxford Brookes University shows that these vertical designs are significantly better than traditional designs in a wide range of wind farm settings. In addition, when deployed in series, such vertical turbines can increase each other’s output by 15%.
Neodymium-iron-boron magnets are essential in wind turbines as they generate the magnetic fields that convert wind energy into electricity. Their high magnetic properties improve generator efficiency, reduce weight and size, enhancing cost-effectiveness and the viability of wind power. Different neodymium magnet types, like N42, N38UH, and N38EH, are chosen based on generator power needs, operating temperatures, and cost considerations, with small turbines typically using standard N42 magnets, and larger ones needing higher temperature-resistant UH and EH grades for operation up to 200°C.
