If you're reading this and preparing for the storm to hit your area, I would like you to remember to take detailed photos of your house. Each and every room, all of your stuff. Even inside your cabinets and refrigerator. Should you come to find your house damaged, these will go a long way to helping your insurance claim when you start to recover.
@Jordan Maker Absolutely! If you have a video camera or even a phone that will do it, just walk through the house and video eveything, esp whatever is important to you.
This includes video of your home's exterior and trees, etc.
If you evacuate, be sure to take all your important papers with you!

Thank you for your prayer for us. Hopefully if won't hit us as bad as it could be. Unfortunately, most people still believe shingles are appropriate for this region. I don't agree, so I got new winds, doors and a steel roof after Irma. It's all in God's hands now.

If you have homeowner’s insurance and/or flood insurance, please video record every room of your house including the interior of the refrigerator. It’ll be easier for you and your insurance carrier to verify the contents of the interior when making a claim.

I lived in Sarasota County for 20 years and went through several hurricanes including category 5 hurricane Charlie. I hope people are heeding the warnings and staying safe. Please take all pets with you if you must leave. My thoughts are with you all that you will be safe as I watch from NC.
Hurricane Charlie was not a Category 5.

@@corydodge1691 None of the four Hurricanes that year hit Central Florida higher than a 1. Otherwise there would have been a lot more damage and death. The one that hit Homestead did the most damage. Was that Charlie?

just returned from a 2 week holiday in Florida and it was my first time visiting. the people were so nice and the place was beautiful. i hope you all make it through the storm and i'll be thinking of the wonderful people i met while there. be safe guys.

Ok then why did cops in my town 90 miles south of Tampa say trust us this will end up a summer storm here as they love to scare people and exaggerate!! My friends here crack up laughing at me wearing a life vest and helmet to work!! I cried " we all will die the hurricane is near,!!!" It ends up we got some rain and that's it as my friend say " they always put fear into these storms

These storms can change direction in the blink of an eye and those who have lived through a few of the major ones know this. You cannot depend upon it turning into a "nothing". They have also suddenly intensified greatly and surprised everyone. The "storm surge" and intense rainfall are an entirely different major problem.
Also, don't be one of the idiots who goes outside to walk through puddles afterward.
If power lines have gone down, that water will be electrified.

Please if you are in a house trailer evacuate.I watch hurricane Michael implode mobile homes down to their metal frames and wheels.We lost 9 trailers in the mobile home park thankfully the people evacuated.We survived because we were in a maintenance workshop concrete block building next to the mobile home park and watched the workshop garage door and glass windows blown in as the roof tried to come off with rain,debris falling down on us in workshop 5x5 bathroom.white out rain deafening roaring wind walls of side ways rain so bad at times we couldn’t see 5ft in front of us.5 weeks no electricity 2 weeks No running water and cell service was gone except for AT&T and even they had dead zones and while not a necessity no cable tv or internet 4 months.People looting what wasn’t destroyed dusk to dawn mandatory curfew.Pitch black at night long lines for ice and gas.No grocery or convenience stores for 8 weeks.Roads impassable because of 70 ft pine trees /power lines poles everywhere people trapped in their homes roads were blocked for miles and miles.We lost 95% of our electrical grid and 90% of our beautiful forests and pine trees broke my heart to see devastation all around us and watched tenants cry because they lost everything as they picked through the rubble of their mobile homes..We got first responders within 24 hours because we were downtown Panama City fla thankfully,but our more rural areas of Bay county residents weren’t so lucky people went hungry and without water when their supplies ran out.
This has been cooking for a week now. Why are so many people waiting till the last minute to stock up on water and other supplies?

Go to walmart and get culligan water, you need at least a 1-gallon container for .39 for refills if they are out of bottles, or 3-gall or 5-gal for .39 x3 or 5 whatever. It comes out of the tap and the machine purifies it and dispenses it. Won't run out unless the water is gone. better water anyway. I drink it, rinse my produce, cook with it and brush my teeth with it.

There was no water in one of the stores we went to so my mom bought beer lol 😭😭😅 we managed to find water elsewhere. We’re staying put since our area in South Tampa isn’t under mandatory or voluntary evacuation, but we’ll leave if ordered to. Stay safe out there guys!
Edit: for those telling me to leave it’s probably not gonna happen unless (as I already said) a mandatory evacuation is issued. My home has hurricane grade windows and doors and is built like a tank. We’re not in a flood zone either. Telling everyone to evacuate just because causes panicking to those that may already feel stressed because of this. It also leads to terrible traffic jams and everyone being stuck without moving an inch.

Don't let that stop you, Florida has these storms all the time, Florida is basically built around these issues. Florida will be just fine and the news really exaggerates these thing mostly. Im born an raised here and been through plenty of hurricanes the people here are used to it and you will be too.
Only consider that homeowners insurance is the highest in the nation, and that rates are skyrocketing as most insurers have pulled out of the state.

If you are evaluating consider taking back roads and the interstate for example I’m in North Fl/South Ga and the interstate traffic wasn’t bad it was busier than usual but the speed of traffic was business as usual. However if you are on the interstate with back to back traffic driving 30 mph then get off at the nearest exist and take the back roads for a while.

Spent some time in Tampa, can’t help but wonder what the homeless community will do during storm.
They can go to the storm shelters along with everyone else. You don't have to own or rent a residence to take refuge in the storm shelters.
Looking back at this just 72 hours ago, we got it all wrong. Live near Daytona and we got over 20" of rain. Praying for the people in southwest Florida. ❤️
I work in retail in Polk County and Tampa isn’t far from us. We’ve have been running on fumes just to make products last a good 2-5 days cause people been buying in bulk water and dry food. 2 weeks non stop.

If you live in Florida you should not be waiting in line hours for supplies you KNOW this is likely to happen you should have had sand bags for years folks, YEARS.
You're not supposed to brace yourself in a collision. You may be better off to just get real drunk, and get real loose, so that you just roll with the wind, rain, trees and the rest of the debris, and you'll come out with barely a scratch.

I used to drive long haul produce. I got unloaded in Jacksonville, called in and was told to get my behind OUT OF THERE, asap. By the time I gbot back to coastal Alabama, and was pointed northish, away from the Gulf, I could feel the wind pushing my truck around in the lane.

Flex seal your doors as your leaving, a bead around the edge would be 100x better then 3 or 4 sand bags on the threshold...

Unfortunately, myself and many others in my apartment complex are in the middle of a major evacuation zone but have no where else to go beside the overcrowded shelters. We are going to shelter in place and do our best to help each other as needed.

Don’t forget to put a quarter in a cup of water in your freezer. Here’s why-
This trick has been going around for a while, but it resurfaces every time a natural disaster is looming. All you have to do is fill a cup with water and place it in the freezer until frozen solid. Then you put a quarter on top of the cup, and put it back in the freezer.
When you come back:
If your quarter is still on top of the cup: This means your electricity (and therefore your refrigerator) did not go out for a significant time frame during the storm, and your food is probably safe to eat.
That said, per Snopes, "Because ice is less dense than water, the ice on which the coin is resting on will float on the water it creates as it is melting. It is therefore possible that the cup of ice could melt partially - even substantially - before refreezing and still show the coin as being in the same position. To be sure, it could also fall off or move in a clearly detectable way, but it is not guaranteed."
If the quarter has sunk to the bottom: That means the power was out for a significant time and you should probably empty your fridge before you get severely ill from eating spoiled groceries.
If the quarter is somewhere in the middle: You may be safe, but the freshness of your fridge contents is iffy.
