I think this is the best parasocial relationship I've ever had. This channel makes me feel less lonely around this years Christmas season. Cheers for that!
We'll all have to check around and see if another creator is doing the twelve days of Christmas. Might be able to stretch it till 6th January...Though Mike's creativity will be hard to match.
I know this wasn't the intention from the series (I am sure) but I love how much this goes against the grain for what TH-cam has become lately. No flashy thumbnails, or clickbait titles. Just "day x advent calendar". Great stuff
@EC2019 couldn't agree more. What made me stop and make the comment was just how "no frills" this series is compared to even some of Shrimps other videos, where there may be a pun or something in the title which alludes to the content within but this is completely a blank slate. Obviously that was intended, but I still like how it is against the algorithms grain. Shrimp is a special creator
I don't comment very often and I can't financially support your channel but I wanted to thank you. My life is difficult and your videos are always a gentle fun happy place in the maelstrom of life. Your efforts are felt and appreciated.
If you comment on most videos it helps a lot. And supposedly helps even more if you work some of the key words from the video into the comment. For instance, here, you might say that you love the advent calendar, the wreath you made was gorgeous, etc. The algorithm is more likely to share the video further, the more that people engage with it. Merry Christmas!
The Christmas Wreath that you have made for your home is stunning. It was a thrill to watch it come to life mostly from the forest floor. Thank you so very much for this beautiful Advent Calendar entry.
Charming from start to finish. Searching for elements of the wreath whilst rambling through woodland followed by the quiet thoughtful assembly. Beautiful result.
Dear Mr. Shrimp, i would like to take a minute to tell you how much this series means to me. I've been at home, bedridden and feeling horribly unwell for the last month, and this series and your channel in general have been a source of joy, happy tears and real, genuine Christmas mood that i couldn't muster until now, thank you so much for giving me (and, i am sure, others) some peace in this hard time.
I have been bedridden as well because of health issues, and this series is indeed medicine for the soul. Wherever you are, please know that you're not alone. I wish you the happiest of holidays, even if we have to celebrate them from our bedrooms.
Your words are very touching to me. I'm unwell too but still physically able to move around in my tiny little life. Glad to hear that others appreciate Mr. Shrimp's content the same way I do. Sending my very best pre-Christmas wishes to you😊
I'm disabled but mobile and I'm aware that I'll be spending yet another Christmas entirely alone. But I've been enjoying this series so much; it's a gentle way of feeling included in the holidays, and I'm so grateful. My very best good wishes to everyone on this thread. And if I may borrow a line from my favorite Christmas tale from Mr. Dickens, "God bless us all, every one!"
That is a beautiful wreath. Love this series. I understand the time and effort you have put into this. Thank you. I find myself looking forward to every episode.
I usually make small wreaths when I'm out in the forest and find something interesting. Then I mark the path by hanging them on trees. I don't cut anything to make them, so circumstances have to provide me with them. Sometimes I come back to a spot I've forgotten and find chanterelles.
That is so lovely to read! Would you have any recommendations as to what is especially usable for a wreath? (I'm new to this, but I very much like the idea of using material without killing or uprooting plants) 😊
@@anniestumpy9918 Annie, if you have vines in the woods, like wild honeysuckle or Clematis vitalba (also known as 'old man's beard,' because of the white plumes on its seed pods), they are very good for forming a wreath base. They can be pulled down in long flexible strands, and will not be missed because, like ivy, they grow quickly and may choke out trees and shrubs. (If they're neatly wound, they can be quite attractive on their own, year round.) It's then easy to weave in your greenery. Generally the evergreen plants with firm, glossy leaves will hold up best to this treatment, and by chance, unless you live in the tropics, this is what is left in the forest in December! For instance, you may have noticed that there was a lot of rhododendron in his woods, and though it's not one of the traditional greens, that could have given a nice added texture to a wreath.
Gardener here, I frequently clear up after storms, and have found branches stuck about a foot deep in the ground. A large one falls, impales part of itself then snaps away. 😬 I mean, bad enough if it just clocks you, but being kebabed too 🤦♂️ no thanks. Beautiful wreath. That may have inspired me to do my own!
Ah yes... trying to imagine the smell 😊 I have a tiny little plastic Christmas tree at home, but at my work they actually put up a real live Christmas tree in the foyer every year; when coming in in the morningI love to stop for a moment and just smell it 😄
Just wanted to say how much I enjoy your videos. The cozy advent videos have been especially nice. Thank you for making wholesome, fun content. -Amanda T
When I was a boy .my great grandmother who had been born in the 1880s would help us make various Christmas decorations. Many of them we still have. One of the things I helped her make were several Christmas Wreaths. At times she was very hard to understand. The mix of Polish and German she spoke tinging her English. The last Wreath we made in 1993 when she was 104 a few months prior to her passing was very similar to what you and Jenny made. As always thank you for the video.
Years ago I met a fellow in Colorado who made Christmas wreaths pretty much the same way, using whatever grew in the local forest. I moved away to southern Arizona shortly after that, where the available options for making wreaths are… challenging to say the least. But now I live in the Pacific Northwet and have not thought of that fellow for many years. I just might have a wander around the neighborhood to see what’s available here. (Even in the bigger cities here there are enormous evergreens and all sorts of other trees, even self-coppicing hazel.)
You'll find great things to put into a wreath just walking around the neighborhood. I live in the Tacoma area in a 50s era housing development. In addition to the evergreens someone decided to plant holly and English ivy. The ivy feels right at home and has become a menace where it's been allowed to go wild. No one will mind if you take a bit for a wreath. I hope your wreath comes out as nice as the one at Shrimp Cottage. 😊
I've been making about 700 wreaths so far at work. There aren't many holly berries about here either (the Midlands) It was a good year last year for them. Your wreath is lovely 😊
Amazing. This is the real meaning of enjoying the season and being present and in the moment. I love the series. I am on my own now, 'human wise', this series has filled me with a lot of happiness. Thank you for the smiles
A beautiful wreath. Our coffee shop has been hosting wreath making workshops, led by a friend of mine, but we have been using moss covered wire rings. Next year I think I will try this technique with stuff > can find on dog walks. Thank you as always, really enjoying this series.
That is just so very very beautiful. Incredibly well done. The red berries just instantly lifted the whole thing and brought it to life. Imagine how much this would cost in a florist's shop nowadays.
A really easy extra finishing touch on a bow is to fold the ends in half and cut them at an angle from the fold out to the ends so you get tails instead of a horizontal cut. Thanks for these amazing videos!
Beginning of December, I go “harvesting”; in my garden and the woods. Very same projects and decorating. Can’t cut trees; support the local farm stand for that. ❤
Mike, German meteorological service tells us to avoid the woods for three days after a storm because of broken branches that hang loosely between trees and can descend at you anytime. Be safe!
Fortunately this is a British forest. British forests have an automated self-cleaning feature, where dangerous branches are removed within 3 hours of a storm.
Bloody loving these vids, really nice festive non traumatic, gentle, real, kind, heartwarming stuff! Wreath is fab, i think the bindweed and bramble wreath i could make with stuff from my own garden wouldnt look as good tho!
Really enjoyed this, and can imagine the lovely smell of the greenery. Not being able to get out much now due to lack of mobility, these advent calendars days are so special and encompass so many different aspects of Christmas. Much love to you, Jenny and the lovely Eva XXX
It's been a hard few weeks over here, but I've had these videos to look forward to. I love how you and Jenny get to do so many different things together, each of you bringing your own perspectives, skills, and preferences. Thank you.
Gorgeous wreath. I've only ever made a few, and they were completely made of trimmed bits of our real tree, along with cast off limbs from the tree lot. Add a bit of ribbon and done. AS far as the forest in a storm, they don't call dead standing trees widow-makers for nothing, and in a storm, indeed, you saw how much live wood snapped off. Once again I say merry Christmas to Mike, Jenny, and everyone they love, and the same to all of you in the comments.
So sweet, reminds me of making them with my kiddos when they were small. Yours is lovely and most of all it is the memories of being together that makes our lives complete. Merry Christmas to you and your families and to your viewers.
This brings me back to a few years ago when I made my first and only Christmas wreath. It was during my teaching practice in my old high school, I was invited to an after-school activity with a florist. One of my best memories.
This triggers memories.... my mum would make Advent wreaths every year and gift them to friends and relatives. We would sit around the table decked with pine twigs and pass pieces, hold down our finger when bows were to be tied and gave artistic feedback if asked for our opinion. And the pine scent... so lovely!🎄
Oh, I'm a little bit envious of the live greenery you have in the winter. Here in the middle of the US (Colorado) most of our greenery is of the pine tree variety. Your wreath is so lovely!
Thanks, Mike, for yet another dose of Shrimpy goodness..much appreciated. 👍 The wreath looks great..as good as anything you might find in a shop or offered on a street stall. Really nice team effort from you and Jen. 🙂
Oh what a pretty creation, it's so lovely to watch you and Jenny craft it together with Eva barking in the background. Happy Christmas Mr and Mrs Shrimp and Eva Shrimp 🎄❤x
I do enjoy these daily videos, I'm also grateful for the rest of the year too. This channel is a safe haven, educational l, knowledge filled and serene. Thanks for your efforts Mike.
Seeing the end result actually made me cry! It's SOOOO beautiful! I took a picture of it! It's going to be my wallpaper on my phone! ❤ This Advent Calendar of yours is making my Christmas! 🎄 🔔
Absolutely stunning,,has given the wife lots of ideas for the centre piece of the Christmas table!!! And she really liked Jenny's hat😊 loving these videos, a great idea and an inspiring countdown to Christmas!! Thank you greatly for all the work and effort 😊😊😊
Lovely wreath! Decorating with natural materials is so much fun. We have tons of old apple orchards where I live, so fresh mistletoe for Christmas is a must!
Smashing video. Our daughter has made us a homemade wreath for the last few years. Once your Hazel is a bit older the vertical shoots that they produce in abundance are flexible enough to make a perfect frame. They’re also ideal for garden canes. We also don’t get berries on our holly but there is a cotoneaster loaded with berries that the birds ignore so we fake it. Thanks for the lovely content
The wreath is so beautiful, so natural, our hunting season conflicts with wild crafting in Ohio, but I will carefully do my best to collect the materials needed.
I am so enjoying this whole advent calendar series. All of the videos have been interesting, but I think this making a wreath with natural materials found in the back garden is my favorite. So far anyway. I always love a good Cooking With Shrimp video. My dad has many of the same plants in his yard, including the pesky ivy, so maybe I can make a natural wreath as well!
Oh that wreath is LOVELY. This year's wreath for us was sort of an accident of having leftover twigs from our bouquet of Christmas branches (insteadof a tree), but I'm very inspired to do something more like this next year!
Really enjoyed the building of the wreath...Looks lovely 👌 ...and am glad you have decided not to go into the woods,...or near trees,...during a storm... Saw a fir tree behind our cottage pop out of the ground like a cork from a wine bottle in a gale in the 1980's... Such shallow roots... Looking forward to your next Advent 🙂
I was hoping you'd make a wreath! Me and my friend each made ours together for the first time. I've always wanted to do it, and I think we'll be able to re-use the hoops we made next year, the start of a lovely tradition. I also have a mind to make seasonal wreaths, like an autumn/spring/summer wreath
The answer to being in a wood in a storm being a good idea is no. A monster pine with a base about as wide as a car fell on our property, amazingly it fell between all the cars and buildings it would have destroyed. We are still burning the bits after a couple winters and we burn a woodstove to keep the pipes from freezing every winter. That's how big it was. Holly has male and female plants doesn't it?Possibly you have all males.
Lovely!! I made a huge one a few years back, I hooked it onto a tree after xmas & a wee Robin built a nest in it. Sadly they never returned after babies fledged & flew off.
Oh, what a lovely surprise! I've just made my Christmas wreath today too! Mine is nowhere near as luxurious as yours, but it was a great deal of fun to make!
Wholesome content indeed!! The wreath was absolutely GORGEOUS. You guys make a fantastic team, so much love and dedication into making an important festive item 😊❤
I wonder if you could set up a trail camera in the storms in the woodlands? They give good amout of warnings before they happen. So it could be set up long before the storm and get a motion sensitive insite to a storm in the woodlands.
My nephew lives in Ohio, USA. They had a big storm with lots of snow. He was walking in his yard and a branch broke from the weight of the snow and hit him in the head. Knocked him out cold! He has a concussion and 7 staples in his scalp. When he returned from the hospital he noticed 5 more broken branches on the ground. The wreath looks beautiful!!
I think this is the best parasocial relationship I've ever had. This channel makes me feel less lonely around this years Christmas season. Cheers for that!
Wishing you lots of little cosy moments you can enjoy!
Wishing you much joy at Christmas, may many good things happen for you..❤.
what a nice comment
It's nice to have a channel that you can watch that uses youtube for the power of good.
Agreed, but it's not all bad - there's quite a lot of channels that are positive, creative and 'wholesome'.
Well said! 😊
The saddest part of Christmas day will be knowing the Advent calander has come to an end. Love the wreath
We still get a video on the 25th, so I feel like my own disappointment can wait till Boxing Day. :)
We'll all have to check around and see if another creator is doing the twelve days of Christmas. Might be able to stretch it till 6th January...Though Mike's creativity will be hard to match.

and no consumerism! just making things, and enjoying the things you already have, or not focusing on things at all.
yes, i usually hate surprises, but all these videos have been lovely ones i've loooked forward to.
I think that's basically the whole point of the Atomic Shrimp channel, to be fair.

This advent series you are making really has the true spirit of Christmas and those old winter celebrations within it.
💯% agree
this series is making me so happy
I don't usually comment, but these advent videos are gold, unexpected moments of happiness.
After work I go in my garden and do this. What a great idea.
Best advent calendar ever. 🎄

The holly and the ivy, When they are both full grown, Of all the trees that are in the wood, The holly bears the crown. Beautiful

@anniestumpy9918 just soft, thin wood sticks. Anything wet that isn't rotten will bend into a circle!
@@anniestumpy9918 Annie, if you have vines in the woods, like wild honeysuckle or Clematis vitalba (also known as 'old man's beard,' because of the white plumes on its seed pods), they are very good for forming a wreath base. Being kebabed sounds both delicious and frightening. In this case probably not delicious.
I wonder if there is a statistic about that kind of thing. Death by branch, so to speak.
oh my God I learned a new word today 😅
😂
Loving the Advent series Mr Shrimp and Jenny. Thank you. Such a cheerful start to my day.
The wreath looks sooo much better than a plastic one and I bet smells great...what a great series of videos.

Before expanding your comment I could only read the first part, and I wanted to challenge you to make a wreath out of cactusses (cacti?) 😂

aww, Eva 'helping'
I am so enjoying this Advent series. Thank you. Best wishes to you Jenny and Eva.x
I've been here at 8am every morning and I'm really enjoying these little vids...xxx
I've been making about 700 wreaths so far at work. There aren't many holly berries about here either (the Midlands) It was a good year last year for them. Your wreath is lovely 😊
Great teamwork Mike and Jenny in making your beautiful wreath! Relationship goals right there ❤
Amazing. This is the real meaning of enjoying the season and being present and in the moment. I love the series. I am on my own now, 'human wise', this series has filled me with a lot of happiness. Thank you for the smiles
Oh, you have given me so much inspiration! I have woodlands at the back of my house that could provide the makings of a beautiful wreath. Thank you!!
I’m unreasonably excited waiting for these in the mornings. I’ve been checking my phone since 6.30 am!.
I'd love to see Jenny do a video sometime on whatever creative thing she's up to. Maybe a shirt making video?
What a lovely wreath.
This is such a joyful take on vlogmas and I love watching Jenny and yourself working together 💜🥰x
Very happy to start my morning with opening of a new “window” in Shrimp’s Advent Calendar!🎄💕

Widow makers
Yeah, but Germany probably still has its vast wild forests where that makes sense. The UK wild spots tend not to have many trees, like moorlands.

That looks even nicer, than I would have expected. Especially against the background of the red door!
Beautiful reef. I'm envious of you having four hands making it.
Wreath
It gets better with each day
Beautiful! Reminds me of the song "The Holly and the Ivy"
It's been a hard few weeks over here, but I've had these videos to look forward to. I love how you and Jenny get to do so many different things together, each of you bringing your own perspectives, skills, and preferences.

The wreath looks bright and festive. A nice bit of warmth and cheer for this, the darkest time of year!
Great Fun!! Jenny to the rescue!! Your little family of three is a pleasure to watch and learn!! Loving this series!!
Absolutely gorgeous wreath. The ones made from scratch are always the best kind. A work of art, if you will.
Having a cozy time with my newborn son watching your cozy vids ❤️

...and am glad you have decided not to go into the woods,...or near trees,...during a storm...
Saw a fir tree behind our cottage pop out of the ground like a cork from a wine bottle in a gale in the 1980's...
Such shallow roots...
Looking forward to your next Advent 🙂
Would love to see what a natural wreath looks like after the holiday season is over.
Wow the carving in the tree is such a cool find.
I think the hollies are just having a rest - we had berries on some of them last year. Could be 'biennial bearing' like some fruit trees do
You did an awesome job making your Christmas wreath- well done mr and mrs shrimp 🎄
Wholesome content indeed!! The wreath was absolutely GORGEOUS. You guys make a fantastic team, so much love and dedication into making an important festive item 😊❤
Exquisite. This series is beautiful.
I wonder if a few trail cameras were set up during a storm would you get amazing results?.
Absolutely beautiful!!!!!
What a lovely Christmas wreath. 😊
the storm absolutely battered the woodland near me, every path is now a climbing frame to pass, good fun
