Growing up in Footscray and Maribyrnong and this route being “my tram route” for both school and work, it never struck me as odd. It is a bit a strange, but I’m glad it survived because I don’t know where I’d be without it! And yes, that stop is really dangerous. It tends to be okay during school hours because lots of people will be getting off but if not… it is quite scary.
Interesting description of 82 👍. The other non-city route (78) has one claim to fame in that it is the only Melbourne tram route that is entirely in a straight line with no left or right turns from terminus to terminus
Iam a 63yo chap that has lived in Adelaide since Jan '83, but grew up in Melbourne mostly in the Eltham Research area. I do like your work. I assume you are a young chap and am impressed that you have an interest in Transport and Video production. Well done, I am a subscriber
The tram stop you thought was weird at 5:21 was originally for the Ordnance factory. I spent 20 year working there and would often wait for a tram to take to me to either Footscray or Ascot Vale. It was well patronised back in the day.
I don't live in Melbourne but used to visit often before the COVID lockdowns. Your videos make me miss this place so much. I love the the detail and history you out into your videos. Keep up the great work!
Great video, love seeing a spotlight on Melbourne's public transport. That explosive sidings section of the route is practically begging to be upgraded to a tram-and-pedestrian only street with shops and houses
Okay, I admit I have always undervalued and underrated this tram route. Your video has convinced me otherwise! I may even travel the 82 this weekend, just because. Really enjoyed the video!
Good work man, I love watching these videos, i never see anyone document the Melbourne PT. But im glad you are, good luck on the YT channel, i will definately watch more videos in the furture.❤
Hey my wife and i love your videos so far. Was surprised to see youve only done two up to this point. Very entertaining and informative. Love the gentle style. Keep it up for sure
57 and 82 also didn't run on Sundays, between 12-12-1961 and 08-08-1993, and buses were used instead. The 357 was the 57 equivalent, and the 223 was the 82 equivalent, although in the 1970s, they had some odd ways of covering it then.
Also a bus service on Saturday afternoons. When conductors were phased out and trams became driver only, route 82 reintroduced all day Saturday and Sunday tram services. The replacement bus services did not run down Gordon Street or River Street, passengers had to walk to Ballarat Rd or Rosamond Rd to catch the bus.
I am so envious of Melbourn! In my city (London, UK) we have like 1 tram route (with few branches, but one main trunk). I wish London had kept its once very extensive tram network...
I just wanted to say I am very impressed with this channel. With only two videos you have almost 500 subscribers and over 30K views. This is amazing. Not to mention the video quality is spectacular too and highly informative. When I started my channel on the Perth network my videos were pretty bad and the views were extremely slow. Even now I don't even have 2K subs and I've been making videos for three years, and you're already a quarter of the way there! I've subscribed and am looking forward to future videos, I always wished there were videos for transport in other Australian cities in a similar way to the ones I make for Perth.
It was a video about Melbourne's tram network which there are a few already so most likely popped up in conjunction with the other videos and it talked about something a lot of others may not have delved deeply into and peaked the interest of many viewers. Keep up the good work and the history lessons behind some of these tram lines.
might have been worth mentioning the proposed depot at the old vic uni site in maidstone, the stabling capacity alone guarantees that the 82 isn't going anywhere!
Thanks for the video! I have enjoyed this video as I've lived in the area for 24 years so far and have always felt it was rather weird and boring tram route but now I agree with you lol I guess I wish the connection with the 59 tram was explained a lot better, but again I enjoyed the video!
You briefly mentioned the next gen trams but they will be held at a new depot built down the road from 4:28, new tracks and a right hand turn will take trams from the tram way to the facility
7:21. "Bloody Jeff" Looks like a "240v perm" on the summer rug. He still is the snappy dresser. You should see his Halloween kit,,, he'll be in that,,soon
Yes his map is wrong, the West Footscray line never went all the way to Ashley Street, and there was definitely no tram terminus or line in Hopkins Street at Moore Street into Irving Street. The line has always been from Hopkins into Leeds Street since 1921.
There is a video of Angela White (yes that one) on a tram going to Moonee Ponds, not quite sure if it is this route. Also I better not say what she does on the tram.
There is an error in this video..there was never a terminus in Hopkins Street Footscray at the corner of Moore Street. The tram line at the current terminus in Leeds Street used to continue right into Irving Street and continue to Williamtown Road Yarraville (1921-1962). When the Williamstown Road route closed in 1962 the line was removed and the current terminus in Leeds Street was created.

I assume you either went to footscray high or Maribyrnong college? My friends go there

The baboon! IM HOWLING!!
Fantastic videos! Can’t wait for the next one!
I noticed that too!! 🤣🤣

Love the history and the description of the route.
Thanks for a great video.
I’ve liked and subscribed.
From California.
Another great insight into the history of Melbourne trams....Pls keep up the great work! 🤘

I enjoyed this video. After coming from your 1st.
Somehow it was recommended to me.
Thank you for your hard work.
thank you!

thank you! I got very lucky with the algorithm, especially on my first video

Funny thing is he now has more subs than u do Perth 😂
I used to ride the 82 from Footscray station to Materials Research Laboratory on Cordite Ave when I did my apprenticeship in the early 90's
As someone living in Footscray it's to see videos about what I'm familiar with
A great video, I never knew the history of this route. Very interesting. Well done, looking forward to more videos.
Great video. Interesting history!
Happy to see a new local transport channel. Keep up the great work!
I love travelling on trams, thank you for the most interesting tram stories.
What a great start with the channel. Look forward to more.
Love the picture of Jeff Kennett
That was the only picture of him can be found online.
The start of your channel is good👍 Tram depots in Melbourne are interesting topic.
Another great effort, well done mate!
7:20 Jeff Kennett 🤣
Ive never been intrigued by this route just looking at it on the map, but this convinces me to give it a ride sometime
I am looking forward to more videos from this channel!
Really well made video

Jeff was certainly a baboon!
Great video. Very informative. Keep up the great work!
i used to love the 83, living in edgewater so using the old footscray network part of this line
You briefly mentioned the next gen trams but they will be held at a new depot built down the road from 4:28, new tracks and a right hand turn will take trams from the tram way to the facility
It would be an interesting to see a video on the Airport West and Burwood lines.
7:21. "Bloody Jeff"
Looks like a "240v perm" on the summer rug.
He still is the snappy dresser.
You should see his Halloween kit,,, he'll be in that,,soon
Good content man
keep it coming mate . Subscribed
Hey, that was a cruel insult to baboons! 😂
I used to live near Footscray, at Albany Park. Footscray, Kent, that is!
Lovely vid!
I recon there needs to me more radial routes that don’t go through the city, especially in the northern suburbs
Before I moved to Ballarat I used route 82 every two days
Your voice sounds really nice
The route should have been extended to connect with Docklands years ago.
All the West Gate Tunnel works have probably killed this dream though.
very difficult to connect it from its current terminus
As a rural boy I always saw trams as a holiday novelty and now in my late 50s I still do.
All thanks to the 109 tram
Wonderful video. I’m a local and you taught me so much!
The old Footscray routes always left from Leeds street, your map is a little wrong. Also missing the other Ballarat Rd route.

YARRA TRAMS have done away with several stops on this route. FYI

all the sources ive found show the terminus there
@@QazzyTransport your sources are wrong. The only section of Hopkins Street to have tram tracks was between Droop Street and Leeds Street.
Will this end up being a series on melbourne tram routes?
maybe? i probably wont do every route but if this video is popular enough i might do videos on other ones
Shocking tram route 82 with no traffic lights when turning point
??
I’ve enjoyed your videos, however, the word radial has a different meaning than people appear to think it does.
keeo uoloading ols
next video is nearly done
most point less route
Next video: why Esperanto is a great language.
Ido is better
