Kate McCarthy here's an idea- learn to sing. Do singing excersises daily, get a teacher, go to a class, study, put in the effort and spend the hours Aint no one gonna get better by sitting on their ass fam

Not all performance spaces are created equal. This seems like an open mic or something where the sets aren't the primary focus of the audience and that's ok. Also theatre etiquette can be so stifling sometimes I long for a theatre setting that is more relaxed.
She actually did a pretty good job imitating the voices of a lot of broadway actors famous for playing those roles. She’d be great voice acting an animated version of a lot of these plays.
I get that it's a bar, but when Ellyn👏Marie👏Marsh👏 is performing, you sit there quietly!! "Don't come for me unless I send for you!" Love you, girl! #OWDPG #ObsessedWithDisappeared
It made me so happy when people started singing the background parts during Waiting For Life To Begin. Once on this Island is such an under appreciated show
Anything from the Color Purple -too white Tracy Turnblad-too skinny Any role from In the Heights -too white Any role from The Book of Mormon -too female Half of the roles from Annie -too old Most of the roles from Newsies -too female Meg-too soprano Christine-too alto Carlotta-too young
So clever. Great voice. Each page should have been placed in plastic sheets in a 3-ring binder. Then held up and flipped over one-by-one. Would have made for a smoother performance.
HiMyNameisPeter same, my dream roles are Whizzer from Falsettos, Elder Price from BOM, Elder McKinley in BOM, Javert In Les Mis, Dolokov in NPATGCO1812, and Benny in In The Heights ;-;
+TaylorQ Oh. I guess I wouldn't really know since we did it at my school and no one else had heard of it, and there's only one actual theater nearby that does acting and stuff.
Am i the only one that noticed she held up too white for Glinda (Popular) im like nobody can be to white for Glinda and then she said ethnic and I went "okay...TRUE!!"
I don't understand why a casting director would care, except in the case where it's a core part of the show. It really doesn't matter what the person who popularized the role looked like - it just makes me think, "Oh. You're insecure about your version of the show, so you feel the need to mimic someone else's."
Carrie hope fletcher is also a mezzo soprano and she has had loads of roles (especially leads) maybe look at what she done or any vocal arrangements shes done hope this helps
Lin's said he's up for gender-swapped Hamilton characters, but I'm still way too white (and I'd hate to take a role from POC). But oh well, I'm still gonna play Alexander for my daily rendition of "Hamilton: Car Edition"
a quick note from Ben D-Help us continue to bring you amazing performances like this by casting your vote for us in the Broadway World Cabaret Awards 2014-BEST HOST! voting ends Dec. 31st. This is such an amazing idea! Mine would probably be roles for which I am too short, too alto, too skinny, too young... it's not my fault I'm 4'10". XD
I'm Belgian and I've had to take speech lessons for 2 years just to get rid of my accent a bit so I can play theatre. And there isn't even a very big theatre business in Belgium so I still can't do theatre lol.
Fairly Automatic in my experience, and hers I’m assuming, schools don’t really do shows with actual villains for some asinine reason. If they do they’re usually bit part villains.
“Welcome to the Wivked auditions, what song will you be singing?” Oh, I can’t sing “Oh so you came to be a Hamilton dancer?” I can’t dance “You’re gonna help move the props for Falsettos?” I can’t lift heavy stuff “But you can talk!? Yes, u can try for the priest in Sound Of Music?” I can’t remember things “THEN WHY DID YOU EVEN COME TO THE LES MIS AUDITIONS IF U CANT DO ANYTHING” I CAN SUPPORT Y’ALL
Literally hearing Once on This Island made me want to rip my head off, not because she was singing it, she's great but that was the show we did this year at my school and OH GOD I'm just so over it
I'm Hispanic and I've played Glinda before. Without a blonde wig too. Honestly nothing should get into the way of the roles u want and no one should be allowed to tell you who you can and can't play based on what you look like. Honestly I'm grateful for Hamilton
t0tally isa although I'll probably never play George Washington in Hamilton being a 16 year old girl who is 5'. I can hit the notes tho but I'll probably never play a part in Hamilton unless they count ashkenazi as non white which they probably shouldn't but whatever ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
So far I've played one of the sisters in Pirates of Penzance which was really fun, and Harry Potter in this play that I wrote for my drama club at my school (long story). I'm against typecasting at all, like when I did Harry Potter again this yeah there was this red headed kid who wanted to play Ron, but he had the worst attitude you'd ever seen (he quit thank god) but he was playing hagrid. Thank god i had an understudy for him and she's the sweetest person ever and a much better actor. So now I have a black girl playing hagrid, which you probably wouldn't expect, but whatever works, especially with how amazing she is! So basically... idk what the moral is it's just a story about my life 😂
Me too skinny to play Tracy turnblad Me also to fat to play everyone else Additionally voice is too low to play anyone but males Problem is that I'm female
i didnt recognize all of them... if someone could make a list for what too white, western, edgy,alto-y, old, young, and (so many things) were, i will love you forever.
I'm late, sorry... so many things is "Waiting for Life" from ONCE ON THIS ISLAND, I recommend listening to LaChanze sing this, Too Alto-y was "Glitter and be Gay" from uh... whoops, I feel like a horrible theatre geek, but I know that Kristin Chenoweth is known for singing it. Too Young is "I'm Still Here" from FOLLIES.
This is too relatable. I’m half black, five feet tall, but I have a very large vocal range and there’s no roles for me. I can sing opera, I’m an alto. No one wants to cast a girl who physically is too small for the cast but has such a large stage presence that she can’t even fit into the background. And that’s been a problem for me since I was 6. My dream roles are Elphaba and Christine, and to an unrealistic extent Alexander Hamilton. But I’m a girl, I’m half black, and I’m 5 feet tall.
I'm 5'-2", so I do feel your pain. I'm too short to play most of the adult roles in shows, but too old to play the younger roles that typically go to those of us in the 5' and change category. Throw in that I'm Asian and can't dance (well) and yeah....
i relate to the TOO VAGINA-Y one so much bc i would loooove to play hamilton, laurens, laf/jeff, mulligan/madison, mark, roger, link or any elder and etc
hey everyone who is too alto or too soprano: you can change that to a degree!!! I used to be so soprano like so so soprano. but I purposely started singing alto harmonies and now my range is rad. don't give up yet you can get there!!!!
i somehow get cast as the tenor in every single show i do with a tenor. i did newsies, singing a change in me from beauty and the beast and got cast as davey. i wore a tight skirt and a push up bra just to prove that my boobs were there and i still got cast as davey. i love him and he was so much fun to play (ya girl got to sing seize the day) but i was also asked to wear bandage to cover up my boobs which was fantastic.
**holds up a sign that says "Can't Sing" for all of my dream roles**
Kate McCarthy the truth hurts

Emily Rivera Same here!
Too alto-Y is my life
SAME!!
+Elly Green lol!
Yeah mine too
OML SAME
I always get I'm too in between. I have a dark sounding soprano. No one knows what to do with me
Defying Gravity starts “that’s rude”
Lol 😂
The audience talking is so annoying
And the guys standing up right in camera range too!
it’s because they’re at a cabaret
@Robert Lee, Countertenor they’re actually from a resturant where singers perform
@@gramps2matt He is probably the waiter - it is a cabaret
Easily the best part is how her eyes light up when she starts singing.
TotalWeirdo she takes over the room when she sings if I were a bell. I really need the full version of her singing all songs.
1. Good Morning Baltimore (Hairspray)
2. I Dreamed a Dream (Les Mis)
3. Easy as Life (Aida)
4. So Much Better (Legally Blonde)
5. Sun and Moon (Miss Saigon)
6. If I were a Bell (Guys and Dolls)
7. Popular (Wicked)
8. Still Hurting (Last 5 Years)
9. Glitter and Be Gay (Candide)
10. One Song Glory (Rent)
11. Tonight (West Side Story)

+MusicCrew41 what the no, its from guys and dolls, im in that musical right now playing sarah brown and she sings that song , its in the script
MusicCrew41 if I loved you is carousel.
You're doing god's work, Sarah. Thank you.
ya but what was the song that wasnt planned??
Haha I googled "audition songs for altos" and the first page of results all had high Cs. I've accepted that the parts I'll never have are all of them.
Ciara.Chaya yes yes yes,, this is me too. I can never hit the high notes :(
Ciara.Chaya I have the opposite problem, my register goes from Eb3 to C6, and my lower vocals aren't too powerful.
Ciara.Chaya ugh same trying to find suitable uni audition songs was a nightmare
Ciara.Chaya Veronica Sawyer's songs from Heathers might be good for alto

What a terrible audience. Stop talking!!! Good singer!
Hill m I was so annoyed by the two guys talking in the background.
So have none of you ever been drunk at a bar? This is normal background noise...
Not all performance spaces are created equal. This seems like an open mic or something where the sets aren't the primary focus of the audience and that's ok. Also theatre etiquette can be so stifling sometimes I long for a theatre setting that is more relaxed.
I can see her playing Fanny Brice from Funny Girl
WHY IS THIS ME ON ALL OF MY DREAM ROLES
when she held up the too Alto-y sign I thought I would relate but then she just slayed my entire existence...
She actually did a pretty good job imitating the voices of a lot of broadway actors famous for playing those roles. She’d be great voice acting an animated version of a lot of these plays.
anyone else think she kinda looks like colleen ballinger?
Victoria Wallace So true! She acts like it too. She is so freaking nice and funny! After watching this video I had to watch more of her.
Sounds a bit like her too
YES EXACTLY WHAT I WAS THINKING
I think people should be saying that *she* looks like Colleen Balenger
Definitely, reminds me more of Rachel though.
Once on this Island is such an under appreciated show
I'm just too bad at singing tbh
Emily Gaddy I can really act either lol. I'm like a theatre nerd but without the talent
That's literally how I describe myself xD
Annabelle Lam SAME
Annabelle Lam Practice.
Annabelle Lam too fucking relatable.
Anything from the Color Purple -too white
Tracy Turnblad-too skinny
Any role from In the Heights -too white
Any role from The Book of Mormon
-too female
Half of the roles from Annie
-too old
Most of the roles from Newsies -too female
Meg-too soprano
Christine-too alto
Carlotta-too young
So clever. Great voice. Each page should have been placed in plastic sheets in a 3-ring binder. Then held up and flipped over one-by-one. Would have made for a smoother performance.
YES! you're right. i had someone to help me that night and he canceled at the last minute...where were you when i needed a staples run????? xoxo
thelolachannel Fab work!!
Gene Vitale k
Gene Vitale i
it made it comedic so she mightve done it on purpose
She has a great comedic face! Reminds me of Carol Burnett.
Oh yes! I totally see that!
Her voice reminds me of Sutton Foster
I see it
My dream role is Heather Chandler from "Heathers" but I'm too alto-y and too fat
deeda675 you an’t be too alto-y for chandler!
Chandler is literally the Alto of the group, you'll be fine with that!
Sameeeeee!!😂😂
deeda675 my dream role is McNamara but I struggle with her high notes
Did I write this comment lol
'Too vagina-y' is me. A thousand percent. One of my biggest dream roles is Rod in Avenue Q. But that's never ever gonna happen.
OMG Same!!
Potterhead Aleyna lol. I walk around my house singing Fantasies Come True way too much.
I want to be Sweeney Todd or Leo from the producers. Too bad I have boobs
HiMyNameisPeter same, my dream roles are Whizzer from Falsettos, Elder Price from BOM, Elder McKinley in BOM, Javert In Les Mis, Dolokov in NPATGCO1812, and Benny in In The Heights ;-;
i always wanted to be Frank N Furter.....
Too Vagina-y and Too Soprano-y are the two that haunt me the most (also Too White but I can live with that)
TimBurtonIsAmazing mine is too ugly
TimBurtonIsAmazing
Omg mood
I’m so jelly I wish I was a sop
For me its too alto-y and feminine
I was really surprised at the last one. Once On This Island is an extremely little-known musical (or at least in my experience)
I disagree. It's a fairly commonly done show in community theatres and it has a popular junior version.
+TaylorQ Oh. I guess I wouldn't really know since we did it at my school and no one else had heard of it, and there's only one actual theater nearby that does acting and stuff.
"Too ethnic" is my life, there arent many main roles for black girls.
lol there's even less roles for Asians. I feel.
JenCatTV It's so painfully true though
JenCatTV Omg Ikr. And when there are most are easy to play and don't show off ones abilities. Or racist.
Future Angelica Hamilton
Future Angelica Wait...I just noticed your name omg sorry
I'm a guy so I can't play most of the parts I kinda wanna play
Uncoordinated Randomness I'm a girl so I can't play most the parts I want to play.
Uncoordinated Randomness I'm a girl and all my favorite roles are male characters ;-;
Uncoordinated Randomness opposite problem. The guys have all the best parts
Uncoordinated Randomness who's up for gender-swapped theatre? :D
Uncoordinated Randomness SAME it's just reversed for me
I thought I was too chubby to play Chandler in Heathers but then when I got the part I cried for like twelve days THANK U THEATER GODS
Am i the only one that noticed she held up too white for Glinda (Popular) im like nobody can be to white for Glinda and then she said ethnic and I went "okay...TRUE!!"
Stephanie Noel she held up the wrong sign by accident
yeah i got that now i just thought it was funny
I feel the too white too ethnic thing on a spiritual level. oh my god
Liv Rose I’m mixed and it really do be like that
Sammme
mixed race gang🤙
I don't understand why a casting director would care, except in the case where it's a core part of the show.
It really doesn't matter what the person who popularized the role looked like - it just makes me think, "Oh. You're insecure about your version of the show, so you feel the need to mimic someone else's."
HAHAHAHA ain't no cabaret audience like a broadway cabaret audience--immediate chorus, any time, any where.
I love how they started to go into Defying Gravity
I love that the entire audience sang the "one small girl" part during waiting for life to begin
I'm a Mezzo-Soprano and all of my dream roles are sopranos 😑
SydTheFangirl OMG! Exactly!!!
PS: I like your profile picture ❤️
Make them see you can do those notes girl! I
Carrie hope fletcher is also a mezzo soprano and she has had loads of roles (especially leads) maybe look at what she done or any vocal arrangements shes done hope this helps
me too
I’m a mezzo too but I’m a mezzo belter Cause I have decided to build vocal strength for more challenging roles I recommend it personally
"Too alto-y" is the story of my life.
Lin's said he's up for gender-swapped Hamilton characters, but I'm still way too white (and I'd hate to take a role from POC). But oh well, I'm still gonna play Alexander for my daily rendition of "Hamilton: Car Edition"
Take a role from a poc? If you're better than someone, it's not taking a role from someone, regardless of race. Stop hating yourself for being white
Whizzer so true
Kali You shouldn't want to be a part of a musical who doesn't want you in it.
I wanna be the first female “Erin” Burr
Whizzer lol understanding casting isn't "hating yourself for being white" what a joke
This woman needs more recognition!!
whoever is talking in the background needs to shut up!
Amandapanda1553 they're supposed to, chill lmao
it’s ok they’re at a cabaret that’s the setting
You are RIDICULOUS! So phenomenal!
I love how she ends it with waiting for life
This woman has such a great voice, it does sound alto-y but I love it. Great talent

I’ve always wanted to Elle Woods or Tracy Turnblad but I never auditioned because I’m blaaaaack asf lol
I can always just audition for Annie tho! XD
MelanAphrodite a black Elle woods would just be a less sassy motormouth Maybelle. I believe in you on that one
Arianna Sardo she has to be blonde though
TOO EDGY, TOO ALTO-Y, TOOOO RELATABLE.
what a hoot
This is such an amazing idea! Mine would probably be roles for which I am too short, too alto, too skinny, too young... it's not my fault I'm 4'10". XD
Morgan Ashley Boy do I have a song and show for you
I relate to that on a spiritual level (fellow 4'10" actress!). But hey... "Four-Foot Ten" from A Chorus Line is for us!!!
There is a perfect song for you: Four Foot Ten from A Chorus Line

RELATEABLE. The first show I did was guys and Dolls, and j knew nothing about type casting. I auditioned for Sarah Brown.😂
the audience singing the ensemble parts for waiting for life is literally me oh gods
I'm proud to recognize all these songs!
Hahahaha this has made my week, thank you thank you thank you !
my mom always that my Voice is more aquipt to play Villian roles than main roles. imagine how that works out when it comes to my school musicals 😒
Kim Nichols villain roles are really important, wym?

classical mezzo but SAME.
Belting is genuinely painful for me lmao, I’m glad I’m not the only one 😂
She’s FABULOUS!!!!💖💖💖
You have an amazing voice. I L=love this medley with the cards . Your talent still rings through the comedy
*holds up a sign that says "Too short and can't sing" for all my dream roles*

I LOVE ELLYN
Literally hearing Once on This Island made me want to rip my head off, not because she was singing it, she's great but that was the show we did this year at my school and OH GOD I'm just so over it
she kind of sounds like sutton foster
David Postlewate she does, kind of. I haven't seen, that show in so long though so I'm not sure
I know right!

Me too skinny to play Tracy turnblad
Me also to fat to play everyone else
Additionally voice is too low to play anyone but males
Problem is that I'm female
Talia Burrell Some community theatres and school products will cast females in male roles. I've recently been Javert in Les Mis ☺
Oh my god mooood
Same issue
RELATABLE
Oml I just realize I’ve already commented lol
I love when the crowd starts going "ONE SMALL GIIIIIIIRL"
I love the audience members that sang the “One Small Day” for Timoune!!
You are having so much fun with this! I love it. Keep going!
i didnt recognize all of them... if someone could make a list for what too white, western, edgy,alto-y, old, young, and (so many things) were, i will love you forever.
too white- Easy as life -Aida, too edgy- Still Hurting- Last Five Years, too old-Tonight-West Side Story
Too Western was sun and moon from miss saigon

JoeyPontmercy it's probably completely useless to say this now that three months have passed, but glitter and be gay is from candide!
OH MY GOD. THANK YOU TIFFANY! I made that comment and then made literally no attempt to remember. xD
this completely made my day, i’m in a show and i’m sick
Once on this Island awesomeness!
This is too relatable. I’m half black, five feet tall, but I have a very large vocal range and there’s no roles for me. I can sing opera, I’m an alto. You could always play Éponine in Les Mis! Or Sarah in Ragtime?
lin said he’s up for women playing the founding fathers in hamilton - so you do have a chance!
I'm 5'-2", so I do feel your pain. I'm too short to play most of the adult roles in shows, but too old to play the younger roles that typically go to those of us in the 5' and change category. Throw in that I'm Asian and can't dance (well) and yeah....
The too skinny one is me! I've wanted to play Tracy since I was 4, but I'm super tiny and skinny....
better start eating 😂😂
Lexie Taylor you didn't 😂
Savannah Bryan you are lucky and unlucky lol
Hey don’t give up! My high school got the skinniest girl to play Tracy cause they couldn’t find a bigger girl that had Tracy’s range
If it makes you feel any better I can't play a lot of leads bc I'm too big (but I got Tracy!) 😂
i relate to the TOO VAGINA-Y one so much bc i would loooove to play hamilton, laurens, laf/jeff, mulligan/madison, mark, roger, link or any elder and etc
I can relate to too alto-y on such a high level
Ti Moune is the role everyone wants to play, and only a few people can.
i feel the same about One Song Glory!
I FREAKING LOVE THIS OMG
hey everyone who is too alto or too soprano: you can change that to a degree!!! I used to be so soprano like so so soprano. but I purposely started singing alto harmonies and now my range is rad. don't give up yet you can get there!!!!
The Sarah Brown in my schools production of guys and dolls is Bangladeshi. She was fantastic.
I am always type casted as the mom or the grandma lol
"to alto-y" they say as she hits all the notes.
Can someone give me a list of what musical each song is from?
She started singing One Song Glory, I felt that in my soul
Quiet please, there's a lady on the stage.
This is so accurate
i somehow get cast as the tenor in every single show i do with a tenor. i did newsies, singing a change in me from beauty and the beast and got cast as davey. i wore a tight skirt and a push up bra just to prove that my boobs were there and i still got cast as davey. i love him and he was so much fun to play (ya girl got to sing seize the day) but i was also asked to wear bandage to cover up my boobs which was fantastic.
that's insane i saw this video years ago and i was thinking about it yesterday and then it just turned up
This is probably the most relatable thing ever
i couldnt tell if she was being serious or just kidding at 3:53
