Well you know Legolas DID stay in Middle Earth until Gimli got old and other stuff, but then they literally said fork it at the rules of the elves and built a BOAT and brought Gimli to the undying lands. Gimli was the first/only dwarf in the undying lands.

I love already being so deep into this lore to the level of being among those cursed beings who view Sauron as Melkor’s Pretty Boy lieutenant who the Gods literally cursed into not being allowed to be pretty anymore after he seduced himself into the fall of Numenor, and watching people discover the Deep lore.

When a Numenorian king thinks he defeated him, Sauron capitulated and went into full "You are so grand and great and big and strong, I am so very helpless and at your mercy now," and the king took him home as a "prisoner" who eventually got so much freedom and power he literally ran Numenor with a cult.
Most of his moves in the earlier ages are "He cleverly talked his way out of trouble" "he was horribly wounded by a pet dog" "and then when his enemies had defeated his forces or his master, he sneakily fled."
He seduces and he lies, and he was specifically forbidden a "Fair form" because he couldn't be trusted to look pretty.

What if the Lore Librarian is actually Tolkien in disguise after faking his death because he had achieved immortality and the world of men is not strong enough to wield this arcane knowledge.

More elf Kratos
Melkor was known as Morgoth or 'Dark Enemy' following his killing of Finwë and his theft of the Silmarils. He was never again called Melkor by elves or men. The Balrog were members of the Maiar that attuned their song to Melkor's when he introduced Discord to the singing before the throne of Eru Ilúvatar before the world was made. He was eventually cast out of the Door of Night by the Valar.
The summary of Fëanor (son of Finwë, see above) as 'the asshole elf' is pretty apt. He was the whole reason that the elves went back to Middle Earth from Valinor. Basically everything that happens in The Lord of the Rings has a root cause of 'because Fëanor was a dickbag.' Galadriel, who was his niece and especially good at reading people's hearts, didn't trust or like him at all.
The Istari (wizards) were the five most powerful, wise, and trusted Maiar who were sent to Middle Earth by the Valar to seek out and work against Sauron. They were forbidden to reveal the extent of who and what they were to the world, though. The blue wizards traveled to the east and were never seen again. One of Tolkein's pet thoughts about his lore was that no one should know everything, even the author. He believed that there should always be mystery, and the fate of the blue wizards was one of those things that he never clarified.
The reason that not everyone just takes a boat to the undying lands is that they were removed from the world by the Valar. You can only get there if the Valar let you go.
Galadriel was more similar to Feanor than she was capable of admitting, it is written black on white in the Silmarillion.
Feanor was much, MUCH more than an asshole, he invented the alphabet Elves use, made the Silmarilli (which means they were his) something the Valr themselves didn't know how to make, distrusted Melkor from the start, founded the Lambergolmoli (basically a university), and had pretty good reasons to distrust the Valr (that released Morgoth twice on the world).
Besides, if he had not been "a dickbag" there would have been no Middle Earth either since the Valar let Angband fester. Remind me who saved Ciridan from the first wave of orcs? Oh, yes, Feanor and his followers.
Why are people so keen on making an interesting character flat?
@@valentis561 You're quite right that I'm being a reductionist when I'm talking about Fëanor in that way. He was a complex and interesting character whose triumphs and victories are entirely outshone by his flaws.

valentis561 YES THANK YOU! I hate it when Feanor is called an asshole, because he might be flawed, but he's by far the most human character in that part of the book. I like the Valar and Fingolfin and all the Vanyar, but they're all holier than thou saints that I can't relate to. Feanor isn't the best of people, but he at least feels real.

There was a big argument back in the day with the LOTR fan community over whether Balrogs had wings, since there's only a weird oblique reference in the book to such.
in my mind they do cause its cool, idk and idc whats official.
My understanding is that don't have actual wings that they could use to fly, but the fire and shadow billows off of them in such a way it looks like wings.
It was my understanding that they had like...useless wings. Like, big scary flaps of flesh that looked cool and could beat in a pretty intimidating way, but because of how heavy and monstrous a Balrog is, their wings aren't good for much other than like, *maybe* short distance gliding at best.

Nathan is actually quite right. In later works Tolkien said that if not for the Blue Wizards, the Free People would have been overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of enemies from the east and south.

@@Gaath.Gazmatum I thought they served Oromë, since when is he associated with blue?? Gandalf served Irmo, so yeah he's gray alright, but Aulë isn't exactly associated with white either. Radagast would probably be green by that definition but brown works well enough.
+weaned awol +weaned awol Aulë could easily be white imo, but I also think that since Sarumon was chosen to lead, he may have also worn the colour of Eru Illuvitar. which would also explain Gandalf's colour change later. Sarumon of Many Colours makes somewhat less sense to me personally, but oh well. I'm curious why Oromë *shouldn't* associate with blue. But the fact that the two Istari who served the same Valar were also the same colour always seemed to imply that they were connected.
@@Gaath.Gazmatum Ulmo is associated with blue, Manwe is associated with blue, Orome not. He's the lord of the forests not a thing typically associated with blue. Green, brown, even autumnal colours such as yellow orange and red are more fitting.

that forum posts is wrong, the silmarilli were NOT reproducable, even were the two trees restored. they DID consume a measure of feanors power, and the mastery with which they were constructed is something none even amongst the valar could replicate. they were singular and absolutely priceless, as priceless as the trees from which their captured light shone in the first place. also, tristan should definitely have mentioned that the force and potence of his spirit was such that the act of his birth turned his mothers body to ash. the name feanor literally translates as Spirit of Fire.

He included an appendix that list every character in alphabetical order, and next to their names on the table was "asshole." He really fought his publisher to keep it in.

Actually, Fëanor was pretty confident that he couldn't make any more Silmarils: "For the less even as for the greater there is some deed that he may accomplish but once only; and in that deed his heart shall rest. It may be that I can unlock my jewels, but never again shall I make their like; and if I must break them, I shall break my heart, and I shall be slain; first of all the Eldar in Aman." He was a bit of a drama queen and still a dick for not giving up the Silmarils, which could have saved the two trees and restored light to Aman.
Even with that explanation it still just seems like "It was too important, it just can't be done again, maybe. I mean maybe it could, but I won't do it, they're mine."
Yeah, I mean, the context at the time was “Hey all the light we know of in the world has been extinguished except the light you captured in your gems, can you maybe crack those bad boys open so we can see what we’re doing? Please? The sun and the moon haven’t been invented yet.” And then Feanor was all “nah I own all the light now and am not willing to give these gems up because I don’t know if I can make them again. I mean I might be able to, who knows? But for real though fuck all y’all.” And then they get stolen anyway and instead of coping he takes a shitload of elves, swears vengeance, and becomes a war criminal, all in the space of like two pages.
Yeah, that part of the book was rushed over real quick. Hard to imagine 'Actual Satan and Giant Spider show up to wreck the world, kill the king, steal the jewels and fuck off' could be condensed into so little, but here we are. For further info, check out the Blind Guardian song Nightfall which really expands these events in a very emotional and epic way.
Well ACTUALLY Feanor did say he'd give Yavanna the Silmarils, and he would have, except Melkor, who I might mention was the reason Feanor threatened Fingolfin in the first place, took them.
UnRandomEst Melkor only exploited the evil in Feanor's heart. Pride was his first step towards his own doom. Second step was listening to the the shady murder man who's in prison/on parole.
Gollum was in the cave for 500 years, yes, Balrogs are fallen Angels and used to be like Gnadalf, also, Gandalf's horse is also an angel and basically his cousin, Sauron was one of the Angels as well, Morgoth was more like a fallen Archangel
Shadowfax is not an angel, and definitely not his cousin. He is one of the Mearas, which is a breed of incredibly strong and intelligent horses, but still just horses, not angels.

I kind of assumed Durin's Bane lost his mind when he was in the depths of Moria for so long without seeing any of his kind, corrupted or otherwise.
It is said he fell into a "deep sleep" and for thousands of years stayed put, but when the dwarfs started digging too deep to find Mithril, after they'd got the rings from Sauron (aka when Sauron's evil power was spread throughout Middle-Earth), those two things combined awakened him, eventually. Brought him out of a comma, basically. So he wasn't really awake for all that time, he was as though in a suspended animation.

About the thing with Feanor and the boats:
There were this race of sea Elves, who made the best boats ever. They loved these boats as much a Feanor loved the Silmarils. Feanor said "gimmie the boats, I want to use them" they said "no" and so he killed all of them. The first time that an elf had ever been killed by anything but an orc. He killed all of them, used the boats to sail to a place, and then BURNED THE BOATS FOR NO REASON.
About the undying lands:
Some guys - Aragorns ancestors - tried to sail there and they got obliterated by God. God, aka Illuvitar, said "nobody can go there if I don't put you there", these guys got cockey and tried it. Their boats got sunk, their home city got smashed into the sea, and almost all of them died. Nobody else tried it.
And then Illuvitar bent the world so that if you sail west you just follow the Earth's curve, but elves are capable of sailing "straight" to Valinor instead of following the curve.

Well, he didn't kill all the Teleri, just the ones that were guarding the boats, which was still a big crime. The rest of the Teleri just got spooked and fled to an island iirc.Alson the Numenoreans didn't get their ships sunk. They got to the Undying Lands and as soon as they stepped on them a fucking mountain range collapsed on top of the army killing everyone.
@@Mateo-oq7ui Fair points, ya. I was trying to make it more simple and interesting for people who don't know anything at all about Lord of The Rings or Middle Earth. Wasn't aware that the Numenoreans made it though, I wasn't paying much attention when I listen to the Silmarilian audiobook. Cause I don't have time to read all that shit.
I wrote this for people who were unfamiliar with the universe, so that they could be a bit more clued in and interested, but interestingly I seem to have only attracted people who are experts on Middle Earth lore and want to clue ME in.

@@wodnyrak its celeborn name in telerin, the language of a group of elves. in some drafts celeborn was a teleri and his name was teleporno, which got "sindarized" as cekeborn. its a convination of the words for silver (telpe) and tall (orno)

"The Song of Durin" is one of my favourite poems. I would absolutely love an adaptation of LOTR with all the boring poetry and singing given the royal treatment, instead of the combat.

Here's a suggestion for the two Damned souls of Caldwell and Nathan. Draw the personification Of the almost slurs that Caldwell used, near the end that CH sketch, during his time in the living realm.
This has definitely inspired my art brain. The blue wizards for me would be twins. I drew one with a torch and one with a lantern, both with blue lighting. Tear drops on their cheeks because they are blue and sad. One is more modern with a lantern while the other with the torch prefers the primitive arts of magic. I love these characters and I thank the Lore Librarian and everyone in the drawfee team for inspiring such a sad and beautiful non-Gandolf duo

There is one depiction I saw of the Blue Wizards where one has a straw hat, because they went west, and I really dig it.
In Tolkien’s universe there’s dark elves.... they just don’t have the gift of light and so can grow beards.... and clearly the gift of light keeps elves from being assholes
Tolkien was a huge linguistic nerd and here’s some obscure deep lore; the different languages of elves means that the guy who helped Sauron/Annatar make the rings names his group of smiths a double meaning joke in his two languages, so they can either be like, “a brotherhood” , or “The Semen Squad”
And Tolkien absolutely knew this and so did Celebrimbor because he spoke both languages involved but if I recall correctly his smiths only spoke the one.

I can just see that battle with Feanor, and Gothmog. Gothmog is just beating the shit out of Feanor, and rest of the elves are just like "men, he was an ass hole anyway.".
Could you please do more episodes on horror games? Like resident evil, outlast, the evil within etc? They tend to have some interesting designs (and names) that I think would work great in a drawing stuff based on their names episode
So I’m a massive Tolkien nerd. Because of this I’ll be adding backstory info on each of these characters throughout the video
Gothmog- the most powerful of the Balrogs. He was a fallen Mayar who joined with Morgoth when he declared war on the Valar
(Mayar and Valar are essentially the two levels of gods in tolkiens universe. Mayar are lesser gods and have entities like the wizards although in a weaker form, the eagles, the Balrogs, and even Sauron himself.
Valar are the more powerful gods, these include Morgoth and I believe 12 others. They serve the creator of all of Tolkiens world and participated in the creation of Tolkiens universe by singing with them.) It’s also kinda important to note that Balrogs actually don’t canonically have wings. That was a movie thing. There aren’t many details but according to the books they can really only be described as a dark shape covered in fire and smoke that fans behind them AS IF they were wings. Definitely less cool but eh whatevs.
Melkor/Morgoth- was one of the Valar but declared himself as ruler of all of the world. He destroyed much of the Valar’s creation and had even put dissonance in the song of the Valar creating things like the watcher of the lake and other dark things. Sauron was his second in command and after he was banished from the world Sauron took his forces and continued the fight.
Morgoth is credited with the twisting of the elves (maybe other creatures) into orcs and the creation of the dragons as well as other evils of middle earth.
Prophecy says that at the end of the world Morgoth will return for the ultimate war that will create a new perfect world
