      I jacked a corner of a 28x20 ft 1 level house with 4 ton hydraulic car jack once to level it. It went off without a hitch.😁👍

      Agreed, but no need to take it apart. Just start several small fires in remote areas of the building, and it will collapse neatly into its own footprint. Sweep up the dust, and go home.

I think the problem is cracked pipes, gas and water leaks, dysfunctional elevators, broken windows, etc. Something that large might also become structurally unsound. Imagine if, after everything that's happened and everyone knowing what's happened, a small piece of the exterior cracks off one day and kills someone.

      @@yehtoon4237 Another problem is sewage flow. Ideal sewage flow occurs when pipes drop 1/4 inch vertically for every 1 foot traveled horizontally. If the angle of the pipes change sufficiently, sewage will begin pooling in pipes rather than flowing. Not....ideal.

      I would agree I am not an engineer however if the foundation was unstable to begin with when it was laid, and planning to drive long piles into bedrock on the leaning side, to stabilize it. Is that going to make the other side fall into already weakened foundation that is not bedrock?

      You know when money is involved and someone is getting paid, you will hear a lot of things whether they make sense or not
      One thing I can tell you is those people who make money off this project don't live in this building. In other words, they don't care if the project will cause more damages, or even the collapse of the whole building.

And yet she did so, with the same sort of lack of humility that the original engineer displayed. At least that was my perception.

    I've worked in construction, I've done emergency repairs involving underpinning, though not on the scale of a skyscraper. You always balance the repairs. I did one one a semi detached house where one side was ok and the other washing away. It was challenging reinforcing of the common wall was necessary as part of the repair and the house was not in an earthquake zone. Good luck with the repair.

    Skyscrapers displace a hell of a lot more ground water than houses. You don't need to be an engineer to understand that. You're basically telling people that it's okay to fix your car with hot glue because you did it on one of your Hot Wheels cars once.

    Not a good idea to model what needs to be done on what works for houses, as Guglielmo seems to suggest. If a house falls down, it is not nearly as catastrophic and may not even cost lives.

      Egotistical experts, unwilling to listen to other experts. What they say about engineers is true. They all think they are God. Which wouldn't be so much of an issue if they all didn't also have deeply held beliefs in monotheism. The officials are asking for the best people, but you can never get that in engineering. If you ask 4 luminaries, you will get 4 different plans. Then each of them will tell you why the other three plans won't work. That's consulting engineers in a nutshell.
