As someone who uses command beacon with titania. It's a combo Titania+command+food chain. >Sac titania to food chain for mana. > Return titania to hand with command beacon. >replay titania with mana from chain, >return command beacon with titania you make unlimited mana for creatures, infinite etb and ltb for creatures and lands
@29:10 Darksteel Citadel In addition, Darksteel Citadel and the rest of the artifact lands can be searched up with any artifact search, including our friend, Trinket Mage, basically allowing those cards to function as non-green mana fixing.
@@Mobius_ll True, but I was mostly referring to Citadel and Bridges which are all indestructible anyway, so outside of Collector Ouphe, Stony Silence, and Mass artifact exile effects, sometimes the mana from a fetchable artifact land matters more now to help cast your stuff on this or next turn more than your artifact land being removed. I guess it largely depends on the playgroup and personal preference. Any permanent is susceptible to removal, but the cost/benefit analysis will always be on the player.

Guys, i recently discovered Bonders’ enclave. And its basically a second copy of war room if your commander has power 4. Then you can do the war room thing as long as you have your commander out. Its sooo good.
I joined a group who did the accidental Myraid Landscape in a Colorless deck, one of the players mentioned that it didn't work on Waste, but argued that it "Should" and allowed the player that was improperly using it, to simply just fetch the Wastes. Since then it's been a LGS "grandfathered" Rule 0 to give Wizards the middle finger about not having Wastes... be a Basic Land Type. But not everyone uses that Rule 0 much since they now have an excuse to run a different Nonbasic "colorless" land.
around minute 36 I just want to clarify something that I've recently learned about vesuva and scapeshift. From the mtggatherer ruling: "If Vesuva somehow enters the battlefield at the same time as another land, Vesuva can't become a copy of that land. You may choose only a land that's already on the battlefield." So If you want Vesuva to copy FotD, you need FotD already on field when you cast scapeshift. I thought it worked the other way before so I just wanted to make a note!
@25:58 Command Beacon I run one in my Muldrotha deck since she is a "must kill" commander that costs 6 mana and can recur it and that commander really wants to be permanent-based anyway. I also play it my Jolly Balloon Man deck since he has a habit of becoming a removal magnet, and the deck is playing several things like Sun Titan that can just get the land back. Basically, if you have a commander and/or deck that would like to commit commander tax fraud and you have a way to incidentally recur lands, then it becomes very difficult for your opponents to actually keep your commander off the table. Otherwise, I haven't really found a place to play it anywhere else, so I kinda agree with the rest of y'all's thoughts about it.
I also just like it in commander deck's were the commander has a high cmc, since it allows you to realistically play it more than a couple of times if it happens to die.
Question for the question zone: What kind of cards do you include to make the most of a commander or deck that offers a LOT of card selection? (Scrying, Future-Sight, etc) Side Note: 28:33 - Titania + Food Chain + Command Beacon = Infinite 5/3's, and Infinite food chain mana.
Same, the opportunity cost is very low to swap wastes for utility lands. I still run a couple (one snow and one non-snow) in case I get Pathed or Ghost Quartered. But I think the diverse effects they add outweighs running basics + Extraplanar Lens.
I changed my Obuun deck into a Flubs deck and carried over a Reliquary Tower in the process. Trinket Mage's video made me re-evalute that. Not only am I unlikely to have more than a card or two in hand at a time thanks to Flubs and Song of Creation, I also have enough graveyard synergies to make discarding to hand size a good thing.
28:15 - I actually really like Command Beacon in Titania, Protector of Argoth. If she gets destroyed, you crack Command Beacon, then recast her to bring it back. If she dies again, same thing. Indefinitely repeatable Commander Tax Evasion, with the main goal being that nobody even bothers to remove her anymore. Why point a kill spell at the one that'll just get recast for 5 (and trigger landfall in the process), instead of another commander that might actually stay gone for a while?
@@WatcherCCG I mean... yeah, if the utility land gets destroyed then it stops producing utility. And yes, you definitely want other means of recurring lands, just as a byproduct of running the deck's basic engine. But even if that happens, if they destroy Command Beacon and prevent all your non-commander means of getting it back, you can still just cast Titania for 7 and start the loop all over again from there.
I run Pit of Offerings with Archdruid's Charm in a Keruga companion deck to achieve a similar upside to crop rot for Bog, and it has saved my ass to have that instant speed answer to a big reanimation effect which also ramps

Let me tell you, in my super niche Nekusar deck where I want to draw 40 lifes worth of cards as fast as possible, it’s nice to keep my cards when my ping on discard triggers trigger. I need those crutches because my decks goal is to break everyone’s legs with card draw.
My issue with the artifact lands is Farewell can exile them. I didn’t think of that as an issue, until I lost half my lands to a Farewell AND my entire board.
My new favourite utility land is Yavimaya Hollow. I don't like to drop reserved list cards as recommendations but if you're in green and need your commander, the Hollow goes a long way. Added it to Jinnie recently (cut a spell for it, treating a colourless producer as a land in a colour-intensive 3c deck is ludicrous imo) and now I can save dedicated protection spells for exile removal since the land blanks most destruction turn after turn.
Other thing to note about Buried Ruin vs Academy Ruins is that you can just run both, especially in mono-color. It's just redundancy at that point as long as you're hitting your colored pips! I'd agree that if you're multicolor it does become a little more of a choice.
QUESTION ZONE By far my favourite deck type is sacrifice/reanimator (fav commander right now is Marchesa the black rose) and I decided to make a 5 colour legends reanimator deck. My biggest issue is my mana base, I shoved all the triomes, fetch lands, and 2 or more players lands I could. But every time i playtest the deck, it feels so slow since most lands come in tapped. What lands, or rather what suggestions would you have when you make a 5 colour deck?
3:51 Im in total agreement, reliquary tower only shows up in one of my decks and that’s my magus lucea Kane deck, tap and untap her to play big (x) spells specifically sorcery and instants and copying them. One of my win cons is drawing all the cards from my library so the tower helps me keep important interaction when I dig 40+ cards deep.
QUESTION ZONE In terms of utility lands, where do you think Fountainport ranks among these cards? How much synergy do you need with tokens to start playing it in higher color decks?
28:20 Regarding Titania and command beacon, it goes infinite with food chain (not saying that's a good reason since theres no way to tutor food chain in mono G but its definitely part of why its run so much)
The 2 decks I tun Reliquary Tower in are Toluz, which loves to pick up piles of cards exiled with the commander & wins via strategic discard, and Emmara, where I frequently cast Harvest Season to ramp for like 16 and then next turn cast Collective Unconscious to draw like 20 cards.
I am very very glad I got Inventor's Fair back when it was $4. It works beautifully in my Kozilek, the Great Distortion deck to get the final equipment I need to make him an instakill
Reliquary Tower goes great in my 5c deck because I draw a ton of cards, run control/combo so it's nice to have a big hand, and use Sickening Dreams as a possible win condition.
question zone! What do you think of scavenger grounds as graveyard hate? I run it in my mono red decks and occasionally get some good value. Also strip mine and ghost quarter effects? I like both and theyve saved me against lots of scary lands. I find i can always find a spot for one, and ghost quarter is very budget friendly.
I can't believe that you could forget about the Titania + Food Chain + Command Beacon combo. This is simply BASIC knowledge that even an embryo would know about. I would know, because I'm still an embryo. /s btw
Question Zone: What are your thoughts on LD lands like [Demolition Field], [Tectonic Edge] or [Strip Mine]? I find them essential to midrange decks to occasionally answer problematic lands like Cabal Coffers.
as a fellow lands player, I'm a big fan of Kher keep and kessig wolfrun. The amount of times I've won by end step make a kobold after a board wipe and just pump it is surprisingly high
46:41 RAIYUU MENTION LET'S GO! In all seriousness, I love Raiyuu when it works. 2 combats, can fit other samurai. Just silly. Snail, I recommend building Raiyuu (or Aurelia for higher power) just to include Cathedral. I also run Sublime in my Raiyuu list. Only issue is no draw because Boros.
I have had Cathedral of war in my firkraag goad deck for about 6 months now. I have never once drawn it so I have no thoughts on if it is good or not yet.
Command beacon is good in Gitrog because you can make him cheaper from command zone if he has been removed, or just sack it if he is on the field to draw a card off of it.
I just had a look at my cheekiest deck, and it's down at 34 lands (including MDFC's & landcyclers). In my defence, the deck is 3c and also includes 15 2mv rocks plus a full fetch-surveil package for extra looks at the 3 lands I need. (4 mana gets me to the 14 initiative cards which basically guarantee every land drop for the rest of the game.)
I've found that Command Beacon was good in my Gloom stalker Erinis+ Street Urchin deck. You get enough lands as is, Erinis can bring it back, Erinis is a removal magnet, and he is just a generally good threat later in the game. You don't need him for the deck to function, but trading a land to get him back without paying the command tax is almost always worth it.
I have reliquary tower in a izzet storm combo deck that contains slickshot show-off and enter the infinite plus a couple other draw your entire library pieces. I like it there so when I’m storming off or setting up a big turn I never have to discard my slickshot or any other blink creatures at the end of turn. It plays a specific role ton that deck but I don’t see the need to have it in most decks.
Yeah my only deck running reliquary tower a Toluz Clever Conductor deck that attempts to build an enormous hand and discard it to kill the table and even in that deck the tower is a situational land drop. Early and mid game I am generating value discarding to hand size and keeping that line open can be critical.
I cut my Buried Ruins from my Boros equipment deck; it was there for years and never activated it, and cut it a game after I had it but no mountains. There's always just better uses of mana as long as you've got cards in hand. If your "key equipment" gets destroyed, play a new powerful equipment, don't spend three and sac a land. I like five mana Danitha for equipment recursion, or the angel from Thunder Junction with encore and recurs a 4 drop.
The reason commnand beacon is played in titania decks is its a 3 card infinate combo with food chain and titania. Its the best place to play command tower and has won me numerous games.
Surprised it wasn't mentioned but Strip Mine and Demolition Field are two cards that are in basically all my decks as I simply cannot stand dealing with Field of the Dead and Cabal Coffers nonsense lol.
Myriad landscape works pretty nice in my gruul landfall deck I just built. Of course I have tons of ways that let me play multiple lands per turn. I’m a newer/returning player from the 90’s so I’m sure you guys already know this lol. But other day I sacked my myriad landscape and got 2x 5/5’s from omnath and 2x 1/1’s from the scute swarm. Pretty good deal lol
I'm literally upgrading my Eldrazi Commander deck with the stuff that came out since the precon, and I just think its fun to not have any Wastes. Trying to make sure between rocks and lands my Eldrazi are invading all of Magic's planes.
Question Time: I know Trinket has talked about how they pick commanders, but what about Elk and Snail? And how do you build decks, bottom up from a theme or top down from a Commander?
Question zone : opinions on proxies in commander (not playtest cards, proxies as if I will never buy them) and if your playgroup was ok with it how would you balance the power level ? (If I recall correctly trinket mage played with them in college but they were basically playing cedh)
I run it in a Tovolar deck. It's a weak tribe-deck, but RT is very useful there because Tovolar is an insane draw engine, and you'll need all the cards so you can bounce back, because you're going to get wiped and removed time and again.
My honorable mention would be Eye of Ugin. I know it doesn't qualify because it doesn't produce mana, but maybe we can cheat it in because it reduces the cost.
A card I think everyone should be running more of is call of the ring. making a non-legendary creature legendary, Draw for 2 life, semi-evasion, looting, pseudo-deathtouch, and group slug amazing.
Reliquary tower is the kind of card only worth playing in a low powered deck that is drawing a ton of expensive cards it cant cast all at once, or a very slow control deck that also draws an absurd number of cards at once and wants to hold onto globs of answers. That describes none of the decks I play, but I know there are a lot of people who do play like that.
Finally, a video for those of us who see a basic land as a personal insult to our deckbuilding ability. If even one of those disgusting things touches me I'll lodge an official complaint.
lazotep quarry is so good yes, you do include both if you would high market, but quarry wins by a lot more not only it's a desert so you can tutor it in white with sand scout, and works with other deserts it's creature recursion for any color that doesn't take a card slot (red blue and colorless do appreciate this) and is reasonably costed (efectively X 3) you can even just let your commander die and get a copy while also probably paying less commander tax the reanimated thing being a token opens up populate and other synergies, zombie is also relevant (tho it loses previous types and colors) also the sac ability is a mana ability so it can do some wacky things
Command Beacon could be good in the Dargo and Malcolm deck I'm building right now. A few combos I'm considering require you to sacrifice Dargo over and over which will end up creating an astronomically high command tax for him if it doesn't end up winning the game.
Myriad Landscape can actually fetch a single Waste, because it says "Up to two basic lands". But at that point, it's better to keep it in the game instead of sacrificing it because it can tap for a colorless itself.
Sweet podcast. I dont know if this is primarely catered to youtube? If so, putting in a picture of cards whenever they're named, might be worth the effort. Would make the viewing experience quite alot better in my opinion. :DD
A bit off topic but can you explain to me why Harrow isn't a mana fetch staple? In my view the instant speed and that you can sacrifice one of the lands you spent playing the spell gives you the option of triggering landfall three times in a turn. Since it is a spell and not a sacrifice land to search for a land for example it doesn't remove the option of playing a land during your turn. It also trumps all budjet basic land fetch artifacts (in most cases) when you consider the manacost investment. All of this and it esentially costs only 1 mana since the lands enter the battlefielt untapped. It's a card i've been playing actively ever since it came out in tempest and i have yet to find a better budjet lad fetch card in green. Is there something game mechanically i'm over seeing?
I play reliquary tower in exactly one deck. The goal of the deck is explicitly to win by drawing my entire library. I have still heavily considered cutting it from the deck so I can loop the combo by shuffling my yard into my library.
Reliquary tower (and thought vessel) is an all star in my azorius control deck. It’s a slow deck so I need all my lands and interaction in my hand. Also, field of the dead is way scarier than dark depths.
Reliquary tower is fine in a deck that doesn't have much recursion, grave synergies, or plays 3 or less colors. The amount of times the colorless mana has screwed me is way less than discarding to hand size. If you play a mana rock that taps for colorless, Reliquary tower doesn't die to removal.
Reliquary is pretty simple. Does your deck have a strong mana base that can tutor for colors? Does your deck draw a lot of cards? Do you need access to protection/removal, whille avoiding discarding key game peices? If you say yes to these three run a reliquary. If your mana base is good enough its nothing but upside.

/s btw
Wait this isn’t on TH-cam kids…
@@thetrinketmage Please don't tell my mom
Question Zone: What are your thoughts on LD lands like [Demolition Field], [Tectonic Edge] or [Strip Mine]?
I find them essential to midrange decks to occasionally answer problematic lands like Cabal Coffers.
as a fellow lands player, I'm a big fan of Kher keep and kessig wolfrun. The amount of times I've won by end step make a kobold after a board wipe and just pump it is surprisingly high
Question zone: I’ve been playing Ominous Cemetery in a lot of my newer decks. Do you run the card?
Question Zone: What are your thoughts on Blighted Woodlands as a alternative to Myriad Landscape in green decks?
Question Zone: What is your opinion on the hit card Monkey Cage?
I got 4097 2/2 Monkey tokens in one go once.
Yayyyy the snail is here to stay!
Command beacon is great for 5+ cost commanders. It’s nice to get out of excess commander tax from frequent removal.
Question zone:
Favorite cards that apply lots of pressure standalone? I’m partial to unstoppable slasher and godsire
Raiyuu, Storm's Edge mentioned!!!!??? I love that guy.
adding right away!
I love cathedral of war! (Im a massive voltron olayer lmao)
I'm literally upgrading my Eldrazi Commander deck with the stuff that came out since the precon, and I just think its fun to not have any Wastes.
Trying to make sure between rocks and lands my Eldrazi are invading all of Magic's planes.
Yaaaaa Snail! And Elk and Mage too , I guess…
JK, great to be able to enjoy all of your company in my earbuds going forward 😊
Reliquary tower is in my phelddagrif predh deck because it lacks the graveyard recursion that something with black has,
But that’s about it.
Glad to see Snail become an official host! Now when and who are we expecting to be guests?
We have a few people in mind it’s just scheduling is tricky
Question Time: I know Trinket has talked about how they pick commanders, but what about Elk and Snail? And how do you build decks, bottom up from a theme or top down from a Commander?
6:53 I have this in a single deck and thats my mono red purely to ramp a bit later in the game
Question zone : opinions on proxies in commander (not playtest cards, proxies as if I will never buy them) and if your playgroup was ok with it how would you balance the power level ? (If I recall correctly trinket mage played with them in college but they were basically playing cedh)
cathedral of war is in the hans combat trick deck. It has NEVER failed me in my LIFE
QUESTION ZONE riftstone portal?
I run it in a Tovolar deck. It's a weak tribe-deck, but RT is very useful there because Tovolar is an insane draw engine, and you'll need all the cards so you can bounce back, because you're going to get wiped and removed time and again.
Mayhem devil is like the mage hero power in hearthstone.
You're so valid for this one
I have to interject all these lands can be played in the gitrog monster
My honorable mention would be Eye of Ugin. I know it doesn't qualify because it doesn't produce mana, but maybe we can cheat it in because it reduces the cost.
A card I think everyone should be running more of is call of the ring. making a non-legendary creature legendary, Draw for 2 life, semi-evasion, looting, pseudo-deathtouch, and group slug amazing.
I run tower in *one* deck and thats my Niv Mizzet Paurn deck which is literally meant to draw my whole deck
Reliquary tower is the kind of card only worth playing in a low powered deck that is drawing a ton of expensive cards it cant cast all at once, or a very slow control deck that also draws an absurd number of cards at once and wants to hold onto globs of answers.
That describes none of the decks I play, but I know there are a lot of people who do play like that.
i am glad you have three man podcast!!!
Finally, a video for those of us who see a basic land as a personal insult to our deckbuilding ability. If even one of those disgusting things touches me I'll lodge an official complaint.
It’s a good land in specific decks. Especially those that draw lots of cards.
lazotep quarry is so good
yes, you do include both if you would high market, but quarry wins by a lot more
not only it's a desert so you can tutor it in white with sand scout, and works with other deserts
it's creature recursion for any color that doesn't take a card slot (red blue and colorless do appreciate this) and is reasonably costed (efectively X 3)
you can even just let your commander die and get a copy while also probably paying less commander tax
the reanimated thing being a token opens up populate and other synergies, zombie is also relevant (tho it loses previous types and colors)
also the sac ability is a mana ability so it can do some wacky things
Command Beacon could be good in the Dargo and Malcolm deck I'm building right now. A few combos I'm considering require you to sacrifice Dargo over and over which will end up creating an astronomically high command tax for him if it doesn't end up winning the game.
Reliquary is good in 1. Blue storm decks and 2. K'rrik Son of Yawgmoth
I think Cathedral of War kind of pops in decks with evasive 6 power commanders.
