I'm pretty sure Annette is hugging Richter and Maria is covering her eyes out of embarrassment while peeking out through her fingers. It's an anime thing.
the good ending image is the fiance embracing richter and Maria bashfully covering her eyes from the PDA yet peeking through one hand. it was a common cartoon reaction to romance in kids shows back then.
Having played both this and Rondo of Blood, I'm kinda with you on this, Jirard. By itself, this is pretty good. Rondo is better, but by itself, Dracula X isn't too shabby. That final boss can go straight to hell, though. Whoever decided it would be a good idea to make the final battle with Dracula over a set of pillars should have been fired.
it's funny since to me the pillars aren't even the worst thing about this fight. it's that he has like three times as much health as he should. it's such a tedious and not even necessarily hard fight. like there's pretty much only one halfway acceptable way to fight him and it's just to chuck axes the whole time. this is in stark contrast to the rondo version where the standard whip is viable and the fight has a nice rhythm to it. here the fight is just a boring slog.
I know nobody will read this especially Jirard, but the area with the spearman is optional. You can jump to the exit with the first moving block. You only have to go all the way right if you want the meat. If you die trying just skip it.
Complete Rondo of Blood it really is the superior game and you get to play as Maria. Then play the GBA game, then play the DS games. They're all incredible.
Scorpion122178 "GBA game"? There are three GBA games and they are also all fantastic. There are other great, overlooked games in this series, like Castlevania Chronicles and The Adventure ReBirth.
like I said I'll have to replay it again. I think I just remember liking it so much because of its theming. It had all the old Hollywood monsters as bosses and each level was themed around them. Pyramids for the Mummy, Old London for the Wolfman, a Laboratory for Frankensteins Monster. I'm a sucker for that.
I just have to wonder, why not play the PSP rerelease? It's a lot more of a completionist game, with multiple routes, collectables and all that great stuff. ....Although having to re-100% Symphony of the Night, which has new stuff like a Maria mode, would probably be insane
Love your work jirard I don't care if it's new or trendy I will watch whatever you put out because every episode of the completionist is always a good one. Love your work!
I'm a huge Castlevania fan. While I think Rondo of Blood is better, Dracula X gets a bad rep for how good of a game it really is. I'd play through it again any day. And Jirard, if you're looking for another Castlevania game to play that's also a little different, I recommend Bloodlines on the Genesis. Super good and the music is top notch.
umm no it got bad rep for being shitty port of great game, they butchered it, this was basically like half of original game, mix with new stuff and its not canon.
kyotheman69 I understand the concern of it being a different game than the original. But, echoing Jirards points, the standalone game itself is good. Design, difficultly, graphics, music etc. But I understand your point.
By technicality it's not the WORST game in the series(one of the gameboy games get that) But it's still not a good one. It never learned it's lesson from past mistakes(overabundance of small enemies and pits) nor did is it that rewarding to play, It's not unplayable, but it's not something I'd play over and over again Let's not get into the secrets either. That's just BS imo, and I'm sure you can understand why.
It's not complete garbage like some say, but I think it's pretty fairly forgotten. It's a solid game for the most part, but one of the least notable in the series.
I see bloodlines on the shelf. Really want you to review that game. It's so underrated If you want the best quality, get the castlevania collections. I think. Not 100% sure. I just know the clouds in the one boss is not interlaced
Damn it! This just reminded me that Rondo of Blood was available on the Wii's Virtual Console. I knew there was going to be something on there I had neglected to download and now regret not stockpiling Wii Points for!
This was my first Castlevania game and it still has my favourite soundtrack in the series~ I really love it! But Rondo of Blood is better, go play that! In fact, I'd say Rondo is the best Castlevania bar-none...

Thank u for finally giving this game the fair shake it deserves! It gets a lotta hate but I think it’s one of the best Classicvania’s out there. U did a good job at comparing and contrasting its pros and cons in an unbiased way and I can’t help but appreciate and respect that.
Love when you do retro games!! Here's a few I'd love to see you do... Castlevania 3 Dracula's Curse, Guardian Legend, Clash at Demonhead, Final Fantasy 2&3 SNES
Soooo... is he not allowed allowed to chose for himself, what he wants to play? I bet he chose to play Dracula X, because everyone says it is shit, just to make his own opinion about.
Well done...well said!!! Castlevania has been my all time favorite franchise since childhood. But the motivating part about falling in love with the games/series was when it was again released from Super Nintendo's plat-from back in 1991. Playing several Castlevania collections from the Nes version to PlayStation and Xbox brings back the chronological memories and flashbacks on when it first began and established. On top of that root, how far it got to where we are living at. From the late 1980's to this present year of 2018.
I know it's an old video and no one cares, but 6:57 - that isn't bass. It's clearly just a midi version of a Strat in a double-coil position. And even if it wasn't a couple octaves above the bass range, it still just sounds like a rhythmic melody intro.
Dude. You have to complete the witcher 3. It's the only way for you to take your rightful position in the completionist hall of fame. It's your destiny.
It's not that big compared to Skyrim or Xenoblade Chronicles X, to give first two examples that come to mind.. I liked The Witcher 3 a lot, but you people need to stop acting like it's a pinnacle of gaming in all it's aspects.
While the witcher 3 is my favourite game of all, I aknowledge its inpefections.I dont believe however that it is overestimated or that it gets more praise than it deserves and I do consider it revolutionary for gaming and especially the RPG gerne.I dont think that there's a point in debating this in detail but for the record I think that it trumps Skyrim ( I haven't played Xenoblade) in almost every way especially when it comes to story, characters and lore. And since i enjoyed The Completionist's video about Skyrim so much, i can't imagine how much i would enjoy one about The Withcher 3.
Andrzej Sugier My problem with Skyrim is that it's world and people are completely uninteresting, and Xenoblade X was just a giant empty world. With Witcher 3, I was actually interested in everything about the world. The side quests were great, the characters were great, the world was great. To me, a big world means little if there isn't anything interesting to do in it.
Hey Jirard. I just wanted to stop by and say. Bless you man and your struggle. And for taking those odd moments to express honestly (with a slight comedy edge) the other side of being a creator and how YT changes can ripple into content changes. That goes for all of y'all on the team. You're trying to the find compromises and workarounds so you can cover what you want sometimes, while also pleasing the system enough to let you keep doing it. I ain't about to moan about no Rondo of Blood, or missing spoiler segments, because Completionist is still here. There was a very real chance, and still is going forward, that if you don't follow the little focus-charts and rulebooks enough, it'll all fall down. I just want you to know that even though some of us suck at expressing it - we all feel you and know you're trying to do your best in a system that really doesn't seem to like...well basically anybody at the mo. Peace man.
17:39 Um... really? You can't tell that? Because I think it's pretty obvious. Annete is like "Oh, my hero, i'm safe!" and falling into his arms demurely, and Maria is making a face like "Oh my!" and shielding herself from the pubic display of affection, out of embarrassment. It's not that hard to figure out. It's a pretty trope-y, and pretty generically typical little scene.
I highly recommend Castlevania Circle of the Moon. it was my favorite of the three GBA Castlevania games since it seemed like a nice mix of Old School Castlevania and Symphony of the Night's RPG system.
I personally love and will priorities these classic play through episodes - some games like this especially with their cartridge chasing and cost barrier I'm really interested in but won't get to play myself st least on their original version that I love watching the get played, especially by you. Also, episodes you're really excited for always seem more genuine and the enthusiasm is infectious.
I like it more than 4 but not sure about 1 and 3. I kind of like them all the same. When I first beat the game 2 years ago I loved level one and then didn't like the game as much through and through. the final boss battle is very overated for how hard it is. and I'd go to say it's not even the hardest boss battle in the game.
Jonathan Fauscett why? I don’t understand why some like Dracula X over Rondo of Blood. That’s like saying that the original Castlevania is better than Super Castlevania IV. Rondo of Blood has better level design, more alternative stages, FAR better level design, and a good challenge that makes you feel like your the one that made a mistake instead of the game saying Fuck you. And you can’t play as Maria. And you’ll say “Oh who wants to play as a little girl in a pink dress compared to the manliness that is Richter Belmont?” FUCK YOU MARIA IS AWESOME!! She has a double jump, her animal friends sub weapons are great and her item crash is OP AS FUCK. If you have a hard time with Richter, then play as Maria and watch the enemy you had a hard time with topple like a stack of dominos. In all, Rondo of Blood is a FAR superior game. I understand that Dracula X isn’t entirely terrible, but the excessive number of bullshit things in the game make me dislike it hugely compared to Rondo of Blood.
I played this game back in the day, did everything with that friggin key and pulled my hair out doing it all. I can still have fun with it. It really feels like the game designers were really winging it compared to other games in the series. He does a good job of explaining what playing this game is like, but I don't think the designers deserve that much credit as if it's some genius old-school game design at work. It's cheap, off-the-wall, and not even that creative or feeling like it has much of its own vision (borrows heavily from Rondo of Blood which is a much better game). It's fun in a beer and pizza sort of way, probably mostly because it's gorgeous and the music is absolutely awesome, the sound is great, so it's satisfying to kill things.
I kept the key to the end and after I killed dracula, finished the game and didn’t understand the use of the key. It was not until a few years later that someone told me what the key was for. Cool game but tough and making it a nightmare to finish it without subweapons as the key doesn’t have any use in battles.
complete plz , The Legend of Heroes - Trails in the Sky :D , you will love the story , the world in that game is better than skyrim or fallout :) , but is hard , nightmare is a way to damage your sanity :))
As much as I love JRPG games, I like seeing Jirard cover easier retro games at times. It gives me hopes that he has more time to spend with his loved ones.
Heh, funny thing I'm playing Trails FC for the first time. It's really nice to see that even though it's a relatively small fanbase, it's loyal and we all can share what we like about the Kiseki series.
I like how "youtube" has to tell you what to do unless you want crap views. Heaven forbid you do what you want these days. I have to agree, it is very frustrating as a content creator.
TheRedScizor Not a bad choice In terms of difficulty, but honestly fuck the counter skill and that other one with the 100% accuracy limiting my options In terms of what my boon & bane will be. If I'm not playing skyrim I don't want to be a fucking archer just to deal with that obnoxious counter skill.
I find it very nice how you played this instead of Rondo of blood! Even more so considering most people often forget this game and only talk about rondo.
SKay Probably stress. I'd imagine it could get pretty stressful to 100% complete games weekly/almost weekly. Especially games that are really expansive, difficult, and/or tedious.
...Why Dracula X? Why not Rondo or Bloodlines? Why did you pick by far the most lacking Main series Castlevania game. Seriously, the whole "hard to find until recently" thing is true of Rondo too. And Rondo is a masterpiece. Dracula X is a 6-7/10 at best. It's a good, but flawed and excessively cheap game.
Blazinkid Not sure what you are saying exactly. Rondo is a masterpiece, Dracula X is flawed (doing a few things wrong means it's flawed) and Bloodlines is fantastic. Why would Bloodlines be a bad choice to complete? Compared to Dracula X, it's far more fair and fun. It has more challenge, but it's more fair challenge. The final level and boss of Dracula X are reason enough for that to be by far the worst choice to complete.
Rondo isnt much better than Dracula X imho which is why I accept that Dracula X is flawed; because I also believe that some of those flaws are also apparant in Rondo. And to be simply honest Bloodlines just doesnt appeal to me
Why in the world did you chose the SNES game over the VASTLY superior PC Engine Super CD game Dracula X Rondo of Blood? It is also on the virtual console.
Travis Touchdown Oh yeah, because it's super fun having to look in the internet to see which monsters drop which DSS cards and then have then take 400000 years to drop the cards only to be beaten into the ground by Dracula who you could only ever beat confortably at level 70. The best Castlevania game is clearly the one with the least conveyance and worst final boss.
>Plays Dracula X, does a giant, in-depth review >DOESN'T play Rondo of Blood first to compare and contrast >............ >What's even the point? What is this?
+Oscar Watch the video and count how many times he talks about the music, character design, enemy design, sub-weapons et cetera like they are unique to this game, and only this game. Go ahead.
The Remake was actually pretty damn good with added feature like changing the stage music to your liking, some level design tweak but NEVER a bastadardized ver. like Dracula X, allow you to break Ice and destroy Red Skeletons/Skull if you rescue other girls other than Annette and Maria. 3 new bosses with Vampire Annette, the Hydra and Dracula's Third Form. Not to mention the Boss Rush mode when you can actually play together with your friend. The game even packed with the original Turbo Grafix Rondo of Blood and SOTN with Japanese content and a retweak playable Maria as well.
The Classic Sonic Genesis Tittles! Sonic always had great music and even Greater Gameplay, so really there's no excuse to not do this also, well done with the new intro :D i dig it
"As someone who is good at games" No Jirard. In general you are not good at games. Persistent yes. Good no. I've seen Super Beard Bros. Still love ya though.
Well, he's good...compared to casual gamers XP No but really I'd say he's good, I can beat this in under 140 deaths, just not amazing or anything. -Come to think of it, I could say the same about me, persistent but not really great-
This is a terrible port of Castlevania Rondo of blood. Just play Rondo of Blood. you can get it on the Wii and PSP. it is way waaaayyyyy better but goddamn that soundtrack is really good
Rangaman Even though I based this on my personal experience it's a matter of down scrolling a bit, the opinion has always been divided on this one and the game, when making fair comparisons with other entries, has always fell short from the quality of the audio (even when compared to Castlevania IV), the dated save mechanics, the often badly designed stages, the horrible excuses Konami made to justify this game's story etc., anyhow I don't think it's a bad game at all but when the only thing it has going on is its unrewarding difficulty I think I'll go back to Dracula's curse. +HE HAS 2 COPIES OF BLOODLINES WHICH IT'S ALSO VERY EXPENSIVE AND HE PREFERRED TO PLAY THIS ONE FIRST, EVERYTHING IS WRONG
+noddypeak I really don't understand your complaints. Quality of audio? It's a SNES game, what did you expect? Passwords? Mega Man 7 has passwords, and it came out in the same year. Plus, would rather be replacing the batteries in the cartridge? The stage design isn't actually that bad, there's only a few "fuck you" moments. Besides that, you called it one of the worst. There are a few Castlevania games worse than this. Simon's Quest, Castlevania 64, Legacy of Darkness, the PS2 ones (whose names escape me) and Castlevania: The Adventure.
I know it's not fair to compare this to Rondo, they just couldn't do that much with a cartridge, but if I can't compare it to Rondo, I'm going to compare it to 3 and 4, and they are both far superior. Super Castlevania 4 especially in music. Also, to Rangaman, Simon's Quest isn't really that bad, just mediocre, the PS2 game Curse of Darkness was good, and Castlevania: The Adventure wasn't the horrible one on the GB, that honor goes to Legends, which is in the same league as the N64 games as being awful.
The water spout puzzle seems like a nod to Simon's Quest, where you needed an orb to go below water at one point. That might be a stretch, but in that game, your hint that you could go below the water was a platform visible within the water, much like there was a platform in Dracula X in the water hinting at a way down.
OG Castlevania was my first gaming experience with my Brother and Father, I will always have a special place in my heart for the Castlevania franchise. (Except Simons Quest)

Peace man.
SONIC GENERATIONS FOR SONICS 25TH ANNIVERSARY!!!!
TRU! But completing that game is tedious at best and the final boss is BAD in HD releases; 3DS version is much better imo
The game is great, but I couldn't expect anything different from this channel than nintendo fanboys.
@@gabrielgoncalves2763 Funny considering he makes no secret of loving the classics and Mania.
17:39 Um...
Diabeto Kills Interesting. Most ppl seem to think that one was the worst of the 3 GBA games but its cool to hear that may not be the case.
Why does it matter that he completed this game instead of Rondo? He can do what he wants to do. Jirard, keep up the great work!
Review Suikoden or Suikoden 2!
Dracula X is my favorite Castlevania. There, I said it.
Good on you. Mine is Order of Ecclasia.
Its a good game.
Potato Tomato
Did anyone else also miss the hole in the floor until Jirard pointed it out and fell into it?
Suikoden Series, please
I played this game back in the day, did everything with that friggin key and pulled my hair out doing it all. I can still have fun with it. It really feels like the game designers were really winging it compared to other games in the series. He does a good job of explaining what playing this game is like, but I don't think the designers deserve that much credit as if it's some genius old-school game design at work. It's cheap, off-the-wall, and not even that creative or feeling like it has much of its own vision (borrows heavily from Rondo of Blood which is a much better game).
It's fun in a beer and pizza sort of way, probably mostly because it's gorgeous and the music is absolutely awesome, the sound is great, so it's satisfying to kill things.
do the good Dracula X on the PSP or the Turbo Graphix version
Great Review! I love how It reminded you of this one mechanic Dragon Quest Warriors 2, and you stopped multiple times to emphasize on that fact.
Suikoden please.
Such a great series from that franchise, want to play the third one to get some closure
Heh, funny thing I'm playing Trails FC for the first time. It's really nice to see that even though it's a relatively small fanbase, it's loyal and we all can share what we like about the Kiseki series.
Have felt compelled to watch this about three times now. Really great video. :)
make a review ab.. SUIKODEN 2 PLease this game iss soo good its nice rpg
I like how "youtube" has to tell you what to do unless you want crap views. Heaven forbid you do what you want these days. I have to agree, it is very frustrating as a content creator.
Jirard, may I have a birthday wish from you?
It be my birthday today!
No, that's stupid. But I'll wish you a happy birthday. Happy Birthday :)
Why am I so typically subjected to minor negativity?
Happy birthday! ヽ(*´▽)ノ♪
You should take the chance to play Rondo of Blood now that it's on Castlevania Requiem, Jirard!
Can you beat Fire Emblem Awakening on Lunatic+(Classic) Jirard???
max wortel what about Fire Emblem 12 on Lunatic Mirror where enemies always strike first
TheRedScizor Not a bad choice In terms of difficulty, but honestly fuck the counter skill and that other one with the 100% accuracy limiting my options In terms of what my boon & bane will be.
If I'm not playing skyrim I don't want to be a fucking archer just to deal with that obnoxious counter skill.
What about Fire Emblem: Geneology of the Holy War XD
TheRedScizor He would have to import it, they never brought over Heroes of Light and Shadow.
I like how werewolf the last warrior sneaks into your shelf there. And a game chasers shout out!
Dracula X = Rondo of Blood but remove the great level design, perfect challenge, Maria, and charm.
I find it very nice how you played this instead of Rondo of blood! Even more so considering most people often forget this game and only talk about rondo.
Wait Jirard ! YOUR BEARD ! IT HAS WHITE HAIR !! YOU'RE GOING OLD !
age? or stress? D:
Maybe Breath of the Wild's trauma ...
SKay Probably stress. I'd imagine it could get pretty stressful to 100% complete games weekly/almost weekly. Especially games that are really expansive, difficult, and/or tedious.
he's reaching 30, it's normal.
AccelBurner Tamamo sends her regards, Accel.
1:55 Skellington running back and forth crying, "FRRRREEEEEEEEDOOOOOOM!"
...Why Dracula X? Why not Rondo or Bloodlines? Why did you pick by far the most lacking Main series Castlevania game. Seriously, the whole "hard to find until recently" thing is true of Rondo too. And Rondo is a masterpiece. Dracula X is a 6-7/10 at best. It's a good, but flawed and excessively cheap game.
Dracula X isnt that flawed, its more simplistic and does a bit wrong at worst. Rondo is :D and Bloodlines is just not a good choice to complete
he could have just played castlevania dracula x chronicles so that he could play the remake and the original
Yeah I was wondering why he didn't just play the non-neutered thing.
Blazinkid
Not sure what you are saying exactly.
And to be simply honest Bloodlines just doesnt appeal to me
Castlevania is one of those that just passed me by. I should really start picking them up
Why in the world did you chose the SNES game over the VASTLY superior PC Engine Super CD game Dracula X Rondo of Blood? It is also on the virtual console.
Love the retro episodes, and castlevania is one my top 3 favorite game series. I’d love to eventually see you go through Rondo too!
Huh... so this is where Richter is from.
Yukicraft Well, actually he is from Rondo of Blood which is essentially a better version of this game
welp its better than not knowing him at all '-'
Simon and Richter are going to be in the new Smash Bros!!!
it's funny how the GBA has the best Castlevania game : Aria Of Sorrow
Nah, Order of Ecclesia on DS-
Nah, circle of the moon gba
Circle's good but I don't think it's aged as well as some of the others. -Even though I've beaten it the most times out of any CV game...-
Symphony of the Night is the real best Castlevania game.
I remember when I played as Maria in Rando of Blood and found it pretty funny you can kick Dracula's ass with a couple of birds.
>Plays Dracula X, does a giant, in-depth review
>DOESN'T play Rondo of Blood first to compare and contrast
>............
>What's even the point? What is this?
To compare and contrast the order is meaningless. I can play Dawn of Sorrow first and then Aria of Sorrow and still compare them.
But Rondo of Blood is THE better version of chopped for SNES Dracula X.
I just hope he plays the RnB version later.
+Selnathorn Spoken like someone who has no freakin clue what they're talking about. Your comment just highlights how little you know. Embarrassing.
FaceRip To review Dracula X as a standalone game?
+Oscar Watch the video and count how many times he talks about the music, character design, enemy design, sub-weapons et cetera like they are unique to this game, and only this game. Go ahead.
"you might miss the hole in the floor-" what hole in the flo- ohh... well played Jerard. Weeeeelll played.
Should have done Rondo of Blood (the original not the psp remake)
Justin Brown why not? the psp remake has the original and symphony of the night as unlockables.
The PSP remake have it included with SotN so why not???
The psp remake is not that bad it gave Dracula a third form and fixed alternative stage 5.
Dracula X Chronicles also have the
Akoumajou Dracula Peke. It's something.
The Classic Sonic Genesis Tittles!
Sonic always had great music and even Greater Gameplay, so really there's no excuse to not do this
also, well done with the new intro :D i dig it
What's the point of playing this game when Rondo of Blood was available for
1) PSP
2) Wii-U Shop
This game is just a bastardized ver. of the original.
Retro for life I'll always remember when retro was new.
"As someone who is good at games"
No Jirard. In general you are not good at games. Persistent yes. Good no.
I've seen Super Beard Bros.
Still love ya though.
Well, he's good...compared to casual gamers XP
No but really I'd say he's good, I can beat this in under 140 deaths, just not amazing or anything. -Come to think of it, I could say the same about me, persistent but not really great-
Great & fair review
kinda refreshing to see a new & different point of view on the series :)
This is a terrible port of Castlevania Rondo of blood. Just play Rondo of Blood. you can get it on the Wii and PSP. it is way waaaayyyyy better but goddamn that soundtrack is really good
I wouldn't say its a port because its an entirely different game, telling the same story
LOVE that intro! It never gets old!
you had not one, BUT TWO Bloodlines and Order of ecclesia copies and you deliberately chose to play one of the worst Castlevania games there is, geez.
noddypeak Buddy, you have not played enough Castlevania if you think this is "one of the worst" Castlevanias.
PEEPIN' THAT .HACK IN THE BACKGROUND BOI. Solid review, by the way!
6:15 So, who else was distracted and didn't see the gap in the floor until after it was pointed out?
thanks for doing a retro title! much needed change in the formula.
I really like the episodes where you play games just for you. Thanks for sharing it with us!
OG Castlevania was my first gaming experience with my Brother and Father, I will always have a special place in my heart for the Castlevania franchise. (Except Simons Quest)
ep. 220 I may have been watching this for around 2-3 years, but Damn you've come a long way. but not without some losses.
BEARS!!!!!!!!!!
