I left Spenymoor in 1974, and now live in sunny sussex. I wonder if anyone remembers these shops. Revelleys stationers, Billy Samples butchers, Doggarts, Broadway and Roma cafes, Merrills newsagents, Doreen and Alfie Clemmetts clothing, (Doreen had a small shop over Low Spennymoor). Mrs Grahams fish and chip hut,Whites, Ridley's fish shop, Nellie Goodings, The Dairy, alll on Durham Road. There also was McVeys on Dundas Street. And lastly there was Winnie and Tommy Johnsons on King James's Street.
+Joseph Riley Ahhh....Doggarts.....VERY fond memories of Doggarts :-) I've been searching for ages for pics of doggarts in Spenny....but yet to find any?
Worked and lived there.Got married there and my kids and grandkids live there now.Needs pulling down and a slum built in its place , Town Council turned it into a James Cleverly (Sh*thole).
i moved to spennymoor about 8 years ago with my partner to have a family as i grew up in darlington & i found spennymoor really peacful compared to darlington,i love this town & never want to move from it,sure it has its bad points at time but what town dosent, the history of such a small town is amazing, alot has happend here, some of those photos have changed abit now like the fire station has moved ect, nice looking back to how it was tho

My parents Eddie & Maureen Brown owned & ran The Dairy on Durham Road for a few years. In the late 70s early 80s.
