  • NM Dan Heisman reviews a super-instructive amateur game which features superficially "fair trades" of pieces that however, are actually far more beneficial for one side.

Even though few videos for a month but very instructive and educational video every time that's a sign of a good teacher thanks. And also I read in one of the jeremy silman's book The Complete Book of Chess Strategy: Grandmaster Techniques from A to Z, that pawns are like fence in chess and the space behind pawns are the territory that a player owns and more territory help mobilize pieces freely. Then that means we should use that space to manueover pieces into squares that pawns control in the enemy territory right?

Yes, that's generally correct. If space gives your pieces more mobility/activity (usually but not always), that's beneficial. If the opponent's pieces get around the pawns and threaten via weak squares, that's the exception.

@@danheismanchess Is it possible to tell only by looking up a model game in the particular line of any opening that the line chosen is aggressive and tactical/positional and quieter. If yes then how?

Is it possible? Yes. But of course these types of skills are much more effective when you an experienced/strong player. When I was young, I would look at lines in MCO-10 and decide if they looked fun to play. That was my main criteria for picking out tabiyas.
