I have been surfing for 10+ years and still always trying to perfect my pop up. Yours is so effortless it's crazy. Would love to see you break down your pop up in a upcoming video.
I think majority of us are the same mate. But one thing I do know is the bigger the wave and and on reef instead of sand makes it alot easier. By bigger I mean double head for me 😂
One tip ive learned is that it needs to be an explosive movement, generating power through your whole body. Its kinda like doing the worm and then landing on your feet on the board. My problem if I go to quick my foot placement is inconsistent
@@alvatrous agreed maye. Don't over complicate the movement. I almost do a burpy and land in position. Keep shredding lads 🤙
Hhmm, 10+ years...slow and steady wins the race 😂 my $0.02, there is no one size fits all for the pop up. Eg on steep and more hollow waves, the hand with which your front leg swings under should be placed far more forward than the opposite hand and a good way up the board, as you need to push the nose of the board down into the wave face to make the drop. On fat or fuller, slower waves, hands under rib cage as you need more of an explosive popup as you have much further to go to get to your feet as the board is nearly horizontal and not vertical like it is on steeper waves. Only other tips are paddle super hard to get the board flying so there is good resistance and stability. Also, explosively bounce your leading leg knee of the board to initiate the popup.
Chances are after ten years you've overthought the whole process, so try to keep your focus down the line of the wave and you'll find the pop-up will begin to happen naturally without your brain getting in the way. Best of luck

I have made surf movies for over 50 years ..I got a super 8 camera in high school and started making little movies in 1972! I've also watched hundreds of other surf films and videos. It has evolved over the years to say the least!! In this day and age I've got to say Koa's "This is Livin' " is the Gold Standard of surfing videos. He OWNS Pipe! Gerry was King.."Mr. Pipeline". Koa Rothman is now "Dr. Pipeline"! The artistry of his videos from the surfing to the music to drone footage and Koa's very likeable personality make for a most enjoyable experience! Mahalo Koa 🏄♂️
