Hrugnir , I must apologize. I didn't see the description. So I went on talking about something that you already had. Ironically humorous. Love this upload, love BG. God bless Blind Guardian
I'm amazed it took me so many listens to realize the connection between this and Fly. One day I was listening to this, humming along with it, ythinking it was Fly, when suddenly I was like "wait, that's not how the song goes".
The most impressive thing is that these lyrics were completely freestyle, as Hansi himself said in this Q&A on reddit www.reddit.com/r/Music/comments/2uvpxn/comment/coc7u2e
"The blood of sirens on my hands" Jesus christ, that part of the song is so fucking slow and dark. I bloody love it. "Dead song of Misereeeeeey". COME ON. This just screams badassery from every place possible.
Did you listen to it more than once? It's my favourite Blind Guardian song of all time, and I like every album they've put out, with my favourite album being IFTOS. So no, I'll have to disagree when you say it's a bit "tacked on".
It's nice to see actual Metal fans comment on a band like this instead of those people who try to start shit. .__. Anyways, didn't even know this song existed 'till just a minute ago. And I call myself a Blind Guardian fan. Dx I like "Fly" and this one in different ways, both good in their own way.
Thank you :) Looking back, I could've gone into much more detail, but meh. You should've commented in my actual blog though, this is the first time I read my comments on this for a looong time :P
does anyone esle agree with me that blind guardian, sonata arctica, avantasia, and ayreon have invented a new metal genre..... broadway metal i mean all their music has a very theatrical and "play like" feel. Avantasia and aryeon even incorperate many singers, singing as different characters. it's so awsome long live blind guardian
@dlteodorian Why are you saying "Um Sorry"? That's exactly what I was saying in the other comments. The reason why I mention the Lemean Hydra in my blog entry is to show how clearly it is imagery used to say "The Beast" in the song.
@SkyeShade yes i know, i just remember a interview before album came out were he said this song was a dark version of fly,so i assumed it be a darker telling of peter pan
When I bought A Twist in the myth, I was like "wtf, why does this have 2 'Fly's??" But then I noticed it's a totally different song.. Damn good, this one!
Wikipedia of "A Twist in the Myth": "Dead Sound of Misery" -- 5:18 (Digipak Bonus Track) Trust me, the extra track was the reason why I bought the digipack, and OH was it worth it! :D
they have epic lyrics. Oh, and it's supposed to be two sides of the same story. "Fly" is the hero's (good) version, "Dead Sound of Misery" is the villain's (evil) version...at least that's what I've been told.
Sorry, but the music theory snob is coming out of me. Both songs are primarily in minor keys, but the key was just changed in Dead Sound of Misery. The tonic of Fly is Eb for most of the song, while the tonic for Dead Sound Of Misery is Ab. Also, some of the melodies were changed in Dead Sound Of Misery.
@thereos91 Wikipedia... Really, all it says is that it's a 19th century Russian engraving. It depicts the beast as a sirruch, which is a Babylonian mythological creature...
I dunno how many times this must be explained. Fly and Dead Sound of Misery ARE the same song but Blind guardian made Fly from the perspective from a good guy or a hero and they made the song Dead sound of misery to be from an evil perspective. For example if there was a movie that had clips of like...i dunno lord of the rings is a fairly good example...but if two appossing sides were building armies, they could use "Fly" for the good guys and have "DSOM" for the badguys
when i first heard this song, I thought it was going to be 'Fly' from the point of view of the pirates of neverland. That would have been cool too, lol! This is ALOT more frightening and reminds me of Wayne Barlow's images of hell.
Actually, unless Fly has some hidden eschatological meaning to it, I think they don't have a connection beyond the fact that this is the "dark" version. Lyrically, this is about the Apocalypse, while Fly is about Peter Pan...
The picture is from a Cyrillic manuscript of the Bible, so its connection to the song is only by association to the lyrics "Enjoy the heat of your whore Babylon". Blind Guardian did not choose this image.
@@Hrugnir okay but what "BG did not choose this image." i mean i already knew this is just some random image that may relate to the lyrics by the uploader
And not to mention Sacred is a confirmed BONUS track. If that's a bonus track than the CD itself should be great. Then again, some times bonus tracks are better than the main album itself. *Cough cough * To create a Warlike Feel -Sonata Arctica's album Unia bonus track *Cough*
First of All, this is not a bonus track, second, Lucifer's Heritage wasn't going to be BG's band name. It was called Lucifer's Heritage a LONG time ago, then it's name changed to BG, it's not like "it was going to be" and something stopped it from becoming Lucifer's Heritage, plus lots of BG's songs criticize "Catholicism"(" was due to possible mispelling)
I know, I was just using them as an example. I think bonus tracks are pointless, I think bands should just put them on the main album or put them on their next album.
sry actually i tried to say that not everybody likes BG, not that no1 likes them, i'm dutch so i can't allways express myself the way i want in english ^^ but hey, i like BG alot, i just stood up for som1's other opinion which i think he has the right for, but you're right that he should give some arguments, i give good arguments with disliking tokio hotel but they give me bad points =(
wahahha, yeah, indeed, wtf Blind Guardian is and was good. If you can't cope with bands changing (which ALL bands do, it's natural), don't post a comment.
@Californiamagnum you know what. it could be complete rubbish what you say, but everyone would still thumbs up your comment, cause of the way it is written Lol
wow a band that can take the same tune and make two completely different and awesome songs. they've officially become one of my favorite bands.
Hrugnir , I must apologize.
I didn't see the description. So I went on talking about something that you already had. Ironically humorous. Love this upload, love BG.
God bless Blind Guardian
The blood of sirens... on my hands... I can't wash away... I love this song! There's also another bonus: All the King's Horses
Blind Guardian is the best band ever!!!!
The sounds, the lyrics and everything is perfect with BG. They changed my life.
excellent interpretation. i really enjoy it when people analyze music the way you do. kudos and your english is pretty good.
I'm amazed it took me so many listens to realize the connection between this and Fly. One day I was listening to this, humming along with it, ythinking it was Fly, when suddenly I was like "wait, that's not how the song goes".

I've looked in wikipedia and looked saw that this song is an alternative, darker version of fly. And you can hear it too, especially in the beginning.
definitely one of the best bands ever
"The blood of sirens on my hands" Jesus christ, that part of the song is so fucking slow and dark. I bloody love it. "Dead song of Misereeeeeey". COME ON. This just screams badassery from every place possible.
this an excellent song.one of their best! its just awesomeee!!!keep rockin dudes
Blind Guardian never stop amazing me ,specially after hearing this song and Fly, I was truly suprise
muy buena!!!

larga vida a blind guardian
MariosH

Rofl i watched this vid and though, 'hey, im sure thats hrugnir's old avvy'
couldnt believe it when i realised u were the uploader
Thank you :)

long live blind guardian
This is pure epic essence.
I love the riff during the chorus :D
ps @Hrugnir: nice analysis of the lyrics btw
It's amazing how a change of key can change the tone of a song.
(Comparing this to "Fly")
Masterpiece.
@dlteodorian Why are you saying "Um Sorry"? That's exactly what I was saying in the other comments. The reason why I mention the Lemean Hydra in my blog entry is to show how clearly it is imagery used to say "The Beast" in the song.

As you said this darker fly is very cool *-* the whole album is good!
The best song of this album, by far.
Oh come'on this is one of blind guardian's masterpieces,as like valhalla(and others...[no time to say it all])
When I bought A Twist in the myth, I was like "wtf, why does this have 2 'Fly's??" But then I noticed it's a totally different song.. Damn good, this one!
Love this song - wish i could find a download of it.
Although i think it might throw me off to have fly and a fly-esque song lol.
two words: awesome solo
I do so love that song! I like Fly a lot, but I like this one even better ^^
Wikipedia of "A Twist in the Myth":
"Dead Sound of Misery" -- 5:18 (Digipak Bonus Track)
Trust me, the extra track was the reason why I bought the digipack, and OH was it worth it! :D
@Saiphedias0815 This is from "A Twist in the Myth."
Great, incredible, divine. Three perfect words for this song. And I like this "evil version" a little bit more then Fly
*is imagining playing this on Guitar Hero...*
hehe, great guitar playing in this... and a few others of their songs... Especially at the beginning.
this one beats fly by far!
Indeed they are.
I really really love the album and of course this sond *__*
BG 4 ever
it's from their "new" cd (a twist in the myth). Best song on there btw :o
I like the old Guardian more than these newer songs
but they're nice as well :)
mordred song chills run down my spine
Thanks, that's an interesting interpretation.
It seems to me, or the intro of this song it's the same than in "Fly"? Anyway, this song is awesome!!!
epic kickass song!!^^
i love it
i love blind guardian go on!!
whats the album called and is tehre an official date of release!?!?!?! I NEED MORE BLIND GUARDIAN!
they have epic lyrics. Oh, and it's supposed to be two sides of the same story. "Fly" is the hero's (good) version, "Dead Sound of Misery" is the villain's (evil) version...at least that's what I've been told.
Sonata Arctica? A Game!?? I haven't heard this! Where can I read about it!
The last album i really listened to was "Imaginations from the other side" .... which album is this from ??
Personally, I like Fly better, but this sends chills down my spine. Thanks for sharing.
Where do you live that you can't find two big name bands like that at a CD store?
as awesome as fly!
I hate not being able to express what I feel in words...
epic epic song
nice pic. where's it from???
Out of curiosity, which CD is this song off of?
whooo!
@thereos91 Wikipedia... Really, all it says is that it's a 19th century Russian engraving. It depicts the beast as a sirruch, which is a Babylonian mythological creature...
wow, I know this song they used it too in advent children of final fantasy
@nonstopGAMES Coz I´m old enough to know what BG was and are not yet
I agree.
I dunno how many times this must be explained. Fly and Dead Sound of Misery ARE the same song but Blind guardian made Fly from the perspective from a good guy or a hero and they made the song Dead sound of misery to be from an evil perspective. YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAHH!!!!
Oh ok, thx for pointing out man. :)
when i first heard this song, I thought it was going to be 'Fly' from the point of view of the pirates of neverland. That would have been cool too, lol! This is ALOT more frightening and reminds me of Wayne Barlow's images of hell.
Apparently no one say my follow up comment redacting my previous statement, I realized it was different shortly after posting.
nice
They are genius
Actually, unless Fly has some hidden eschatological meaning to it, I think they don't have a connection beyond the fact that this is the "dark" version. Lyrically, this is about the Apocalypse, while Fly is about Peter Pan...
It's an apocalyptic version of Fly, meant to have darker lyrics than Fly.
Totally fucking dark track. I love this one.
what does it says seems like cyrillic from the first line
The picture is from a Cyrillic manuscript of the Bible, so its connection to the song is only by association to the lyrics "Enjoy the heat of your whore Babylon". Blind Guardian did not choose this image.
@@Hrugnir okay but what "BG did not choose this image." i mean i already knew this is just some random image that may relate to the lyrics by the uploader
Okay, I guess then it's okay to have that opinion. Personally I think the vocals are so amazing I can't say anything negative about it.
And not to mention Sacred is a confirmed BONUS track.
If that's a bonus track than the CD itself should be great.

The Limited (in my case, Digipack) Edition of the album.
I know, I was just using them as an example.
I think bonus tracks are pointless, I think bands should just put them on the main album or put them on their next album.
I just raged for a few minutes over the wrongness of this statement. See the link in the description for this video, please.
Because the song mentions both the Whore of Babylon and the Hydra/Seven-headed Beast she rides.
^^^^ why did this guy get two thunbs down??
i don't see anything wrong or bad about is statement
wow this sounds a lot like their song "Fly"
whoops my fault the song Fly of blind guardian has the same start and that song is connected to the movie
I genuinely thought this was a weird rendition of "fly" for the first 30 seconds or so
definitely Dead Sound of Misery. I feel more power in this song then in Fly ;-)
ich liebe andre hansi magnus und thomen
@havokbr This is very similar to fly
Why is this song mostly equal to Fly? D:
Easily the best song on the album
Alright. Lay it on me. Name some sites for me to check out, because iTunes does suck.
the solo in this version sounds more win than fly.
Fly overall sounds more beefy.
@Californiamagnum Nice
@Saiphedias0815 A Twist In The Myth
it's the same music yeah, but I think this one has been moved one step up in tone... perhaps from G to A... dunno...
sry actually i tried to say that not everybody likes BG, not that no1 likes them, i'm dutch so i can't allways express myself the way i want in english ^^ but hey, i like BG alot, i just stood up for som1's other opinion which i think he has the right for, but you're right that he should give some arguments, i give good arguments with disliking tokio hotel but they give me bad points =(
I actually prefer this to Fly, even though Fly is really cool too.
metal gods....
@doublewar Sorry if i'm bad in english xD Let's going speak french if you wants :)
wahahha, yeah, indeed, wtf
Blind Guardian is and was good.
