If I build a tank I just use two throttle levers (like in a old tanks or tracked tractors) and I just control the clutch of each track with one lever and some threshold gates so it turns with A or D pressed and goes forward with W. It also looks pretty dope
Well, it hasn't been fixed yet. In other news, I created a flying tank anomaly with due to that bug. I've been experimenting trying to get something down that won't bounce and somehow, I created something that just started floating up like a balloon that got caught in the hanger rafters. I literally had to build a ladder vehicle to reach it to despawn it. No bounce, just floating.
@@EyeDentify I've learned and tweaked things since, but I wasn't thinking about that at the time. I was more baffled at how the tank was bouncing off of itself to gain exponential lift. It's no longer up there. But yeah.....those convenient things you remember after the dust has settled.
Really cool feature. I’d like to build a tank but I see no utility for it yet atm, kinda useless in the game’s current iteration. Vehicle durability isn’t really necessity in Stormworks nor is off-road capability because things like mud, slush and ground pressure aren’t properly simulated.
That works but this is the more easy way, but only using motor. Get a Numerical Inverter, put the output to the front of your motor only one side, and put the input to A/D in your driver seat or pilot i dunno, also If you press A and the tank is going to the other side put the output inverted number into the other upper side. At the back of the tank just connect both of them to you driver "W/S"
Great video. One thing though, I always see you clicking the component inventory button. You know you can open/close it with TAB, right? Saves a lot of mouse movement.
Alternatively, use three smaller engines, If Gearboxfreakery is too complicated for you. Youll need one Numeric inverter. Then you connect one engine per side and the third engine on both sides. Note: the side engines can be small. So then you Get the a-d input from the seat and make it run through the numeric inverter. Now Connect the a-d axis to the right engine and the output of the numeric inverter to the left* one. Beware! Youll need more than one Powered tank wheel per side for this to work. The Turning engines and the main drive engine need to be connected to different Powered wheels. Otherwise...have fun *Might actually be the other way around, its really freaky sometimes
hey mrnjerysey! I actualy found a bit more simple and more efficient design just get rid of the switch boxes and constant numbers keep the threshold gates though then u connect the on off output of the threshold gate and put it on the tank wheel brakes on the same side as the treshold gate and the same on the other side ;)
There are three types of tracked vehicles: First - ONE combustion engine, TWO independed gearboxes: - is more complicated, but if you gearbox is at REVERSE and second on FORWARD you can turn on place Second - ONE combustion engine, ONE gearbox, diferential (or two clutches as you did) - less complex, CANNOT turn at place, only around one (stopped) track Third - TWO electric engines and controll circuit - only LOGIC is what you need, and you can make best results from them, you can turn at place, with one track, etc. - is mechanically most simple, electric engines can go forward and backward, gearbox is needed only for faster/slower speeds - LOGIC is not problem anymore, just ONE micro processor (input: arrow keys, output: left and right track) which is 2x6 block big
Are they considering implementing an engine turbo system? They would only need to make a new pump that forces air pressure into an engine driven by the exhaust (basic turbo principal) which could increase the power output of engines so I have an option of increasing the power of my small engine rather than just always adding a whole other engine.
I just use switch boxes and buttons for controls on my tanks but on my AMX 13 which is being built, it kills the engine when I engage the tracks the wrong way. it also does not provide enough power to the wheels any suggestions? it also does the same thing on my Whippet Mark A but it goes slow which is okay but the reverse gear also kills the engine.
I worked my steering with subtracting out. I put down a subtractor and had a constant one to it. and the steering from the seat goes in the subtractor and gets subtracted by one. the some on the other side but the input is inverted. This way you can get a smoother turning.
The update after the track update seems to have broken the tracks, now they vibrate violently and slide all over the ground, and they tend to form other smaller tracks on the rollers of a larger track system
I'm trying to make these tank tracks work with a Large Engine, but whenever I stop, the engine cuts out. Any suggestions on how I could fix this? Thanks.
Is there an explanation for non-advanced? I can put them on my machine and hook the braking up, & I can go forwards/backwards but I can’t turn or have any Logic options to hook them up to the pilot seat >.
I am clearly missing something cause this isnt working and its a 1 to 1 copy ive made, the vehicle just wants to turn to the right when i press W Edit: make sure your drive sprockets shows the correct direction on both sides, somehow that matters with these.
Ok, thanks for the info, have you tried making you tracked vehicles using 2 electric engines with one for each side for the drive train, and then using Independent track braking for the steering?
Gearboxes probably. Gear the drive input to go faster. If it's still struggling to go any faster, add more power (more motors ect). Should be simple as that.
Thank you its good to know that the problem isn't so much my lack of skill with engines and motors! Also do you know how I can make batteries more effective?
I love the way you say clutch
“Go over here and place two cLehUTCHes”
they really just need to add a control seat for tracked vehicles
I think simplicity like that would ruin the experience.
Half the point of this game is to be smart and come up with creative solutions.
I agree

I like to play around with those tanks and load them on ships/trains
Probably, it's easier to go on land with tracks(if you make a swimming track vehicle)
Your voice sounds so different compared to nowadays!
Also, this helped me a lot for the tank challenge
Yah a good mic helps! Glad you are enjoying the content :)
Your voice sounds kinda better in this video lol idk, keep up the good work

hello, if your tracks are oversteering you can just go into the seat's options and change the sensitivity to 100%

I like to do a function block for (-x)+1 and a numerical inverter, that way i have variable controll of my steering

How do you stop tank tracks from shaking violently
What is the on/off output on the drive wheels and can you go faster if you connect the back wheels to power too?
It won’t go any fast unfortunately, however if you remove some wheels it will
In what base do you record this?
I need to know why it says 'needs input'
Hey MrNJersey im building a tank with a diesel engine can you PLS make a video about how to make all that work cuz my tank doesnt work
I could never go forward, I did the exact thing as you w and s never worked, an if they did they would go left or right
I am clearly missing something cause this isnt working and its a 1 to 1 copy ive made, the vehicle just wants to turn to the right when i press W
Edit: make sure your drive sprockets shows the correct direction on both sides, somehow that matters with these.
Can you turn on the spot with this setup?or do i need a microprocessor
Technically Turning on the spot Is possible with only One track spinning.
But its not a real on the spot turn. For a real on the spot turn youd have to make the other track move backwards.
As cool as it is to make a tracked vehicle, there's no advantage to using tracks. :(
Also, why no suspension for the rolling wheels?
what about neutral turns
Do you know how to stop them from bouncing when they are loaded in?
Try lowering the vehicle closer to the ground in the building menu
I do that,it also seems that there is a limit to how many wheels you can have, and hinges also seem to cause them to bounce
Only one entity at a time with tracked vehicles, this might hopefully be fixed soon
Ok, thanks for the info, have you tried making you tracked vehicles using 2 electric engines with one for each side for the drive train, and then using Independent track braking for the steering?
How do you get vehicles with treads to go faster? I can only get mine up to 5mph.
Gearboxes probably. Gear the drive input to go faster. If it's still struggling to go any faster, add more power (more motors ect). Should be simple as that.
I’m hoping they will be fixed soon as they require an insane amount of power to run
