FYI - I have gotten a blue label for one smal piece of tape. i have gotten a blue label 9.4 for a detached staple from the cover. I have gotten a purple label for one small dab of glue inside of an FF 48 that i missed. so any glue seems to be restored, but not tape. Of course i have not read their CGC grading guide so who knows if this small sample even proves anything.

Hi guys as always another great show. When you talk about purchasing slabs in a 9.8 with a first appearance for say $30 or less you have to remember that that $30 is probably going to be closer to 60.. You have to add your $18 for shipping plus your tax And there you go your $30 book it now $60. On another topic I was a vendor at my very first comic book expo and when you mentioned that dealers are desperate to Giselle books and get rid of them you’re not kidding. I had to pay $90 for the table and walked away with $300 in my pocket, I showed up at 7 AM to set up did not leave until 4 PM and must say it was a little bit less than enthusiastic.

Another fun and informative show guys.
Good to see #1 of the future Mrs. Ka-Zar's first solo title highlighted. The way Shanna holds the spear is viable if she uses it as a stabbing weapon rather than as a throwing weapon. Holding the end of the shaft allows her to transfer more force into its action (yes, I'm still talking about the spear).
The Daleks have been upgraded over the years and can now use anti-gravity to avoid hazards that used to stop them dead (like stairs!).
DV8 #1 with the Dave Stevens cover is also an Adam Hughes cover: wowser, what a double! Stevens drew the primary image and Hughes did the reflection. And it looks gorgeous.
You are quite correct John, "Millar" is pronounced the same as "Miller".

I just picked up a Bad Planet #6 in December. It's about a 9.4-9.6 that has the possibility to be pressed to a 9.8. Got it for a steal at $75 CAD. It's going to be in my next CBCS submission for sure!

    Great show as always!
I think it’s most likely the tape on Ariel’s X-Men 50 is there to fix a top staple detached from the cover. If that’s true CGC should treat it as just a top staple detached, topping the grade around 7.0 and bump it down another spot for the tape reattachment. It should still get a blue label. It would only be considered restoration if glue or rice paper were used to cover it up… At least that’s my interpretation from the CGC guide to grading book.

Back in the early 80s, I was hip to First Comics and bought every first issue they published at the time. I remember buying two copies of Grimjack 1 (as an investment). That and American Flagg were two series I’d buy regularly (and I got that first issue signed by John Ostrander in the 90s). A couple years back, Warp #5 was super-hot because of a cameo appearance that pre-dated his official debut in Starslayer 10.
There were also two squarebound issues of Munden’s Bar published, featuring a multitude of creators. Id imagine those are cheap and easy to find on eBay. Still have mine and haven’t been able to force myself to get rid of them when I’ve done an infrequent culling of unwanted back issues.

This was another fun show. That Monkees #3 is the issue I currently have of one of my favorite musical groups and I plan to get more.
I also thought it was pronounced Mill-ar. A great writer either way. Thanks for mentioning Dave Stevens books. I did not know about DV-8 and have added it to my wish list. I enjoy your show and look forward to more in the future.

Hey guys! I enjoy the show each and every week and appreciate both of your commentary as experienced collectors in this hobby. I had found a copy of ASM #19 coverless at my LCS last week, I ended up buying it for $20. A low grade copy is around $100. I'm not sure how coverless comics are typically priced. How do you guys gauge whether you are getting a good deal on a coverless (very low grade) comic or not?

I always pronounced it Millar as well Richard. I wonder if Pulp Fiction in Long Beach is connected to the Pulp Fiction in Culver City. I live in Southern California as well and have never been to House of Secret. Have to check them out.

BP #6 was published posthumously, the first book to be done so with a DS cover.

I feel for that customer I don’t know how anyone looked at that book and said ya that’s ready to be sent back
Hopefully we get an update if CGC made it right I’ve been getting the magnetic comic holders they’ve got UV blocking and they’re nice for books like that Kitty Pride cover where it’s not worth sending for grading but you want to protect and display it
I didn’t know you could order directly from Archie that’s a really cool variant cover

Another great show John and Richard! 🫡 In reference to the Marauders #3 book Richard showed, it’s technically not considered a negative space variant like John referenced. The negative space variants are done mostly by John Tyler Christopher….The Wolverine #1 and Civil War II #1 (Iron Man) that John spoke of are done by John Tyler Christopher or JTC. John was correct, the Wolverine in a 9.8 fetches around $400. JTC has about 30 of them, I’m trying to collect them all.

CBCS if you don't want to use CGC. CGC if you still want to get the best possible value out of the slab… unless they fuck it up.
