    I have 2 Boss BR 800 recorders because at times I need more channels than the 5 which are available for recording a jazz band.
    Simultanious recording is not a problem when you use both recorders but do you want to check your recording, you need a method to play back both simultaniously.
    I recorded a stereo digital piano , a drumset with two overhead mics connected to the four xlr channels of Boss BR 800 no 1 including a double bass in the guitar/bass port.
    The saxophone , trumpet and harmonica I recorded on the second one with microphones on three channels and added a fourth mic for the bass drum. We did not use a guitar this time but on the second recorder the guitar/bass port Is still free.
    I have a Boss footcontroller type FS 5U In which I plugged in a splitter with a 6,35 mm jack and connected the footcontroller with the footswitch connector at the backside of both BR 800 recorders
    In the settings of both recorders I turned on the footswitch setting on recording
    By pressing the footswitch both recorders now started at the same time in recording modus.
    After finnished the recording I switched the recording setting to the play setting and after switching the footswitch , both recorders play simultaniously , so with a connected monitor or a headphoneamp.everybody could hear what had been recorded.
    Usually I produce online recordings for TH-cam with people from all over the world in my home studio but now and then we make live recordings and most of the time one Boss BR 800 will do.
    But with a recent live recording with the six musicians above mentioned we needed more.
    Buying an audio interface with more than 2 channels is very expensive, Beside that, on location you need a laptopcomputer and I only work with Apple products so buying a second Boss BR was a cheaper option for me.
    Because the Boss BR 800 recorder is a bit oldfashioned by now due to the popularity of audio interfaces the Boss is easy and cheap to find as second hand equipment. My first one I bought new about 6 years ago , the second one a few month ago for about 120€
    Look at my TH-cam channel Friends of Music Online-
    My guitarist and arranger live on the Philipines, my harmonica player in South Korea, one of my lady singers in Brasil and I am in the Netherlands
    When we record live , all players are Dutch.
    Hope you like the idea
    Best regards from the Netherlands

    Good evening I wanted to thank you for this good very instructive video. I just got the boss br 800 and I search and find your video explaining it very well. A BIG THANK YOU

    Problem is... and I have one of these... ...is it is VERY difficult to use the BR 800 if you don't work with it every day for about a month - or more. You can do basic things easily, but the machine is very complex... ...just look at the 160 page instruction booklet with fine print.

    It was difficult for me to follow you because I do not speak English but I have a Boss BR 800 and it was very helpful to understand and learn various functions that I did not handle.
    Unfortunately for me, there is no totorial in Spanish on TH-cam.
    Thanks.

      Yes, trying to learn a tutorial in English, when you only speak Spanish, on a piece of gear which has a "steep learning curve" to begin with, has got to be frustrating! Is there no software in which you can at least have the English "Closed Captioning" translated to your "Native Language", or to have the audio voice in English translated for you, into Spanish? I have always heard the saying: "There is an App for that!" Hasta Luego, mi amigo, y buena suerte!

    Fantastic video - So once I have a mastered track on 7/8, can I then easily transfer the completed track to my laptop via the USB/ BOSS BR wave converter and then upload it to Soundcloud or a similar site?

    For anyone using this I highly recommend using the foot switch for punch in/punch out, lest you think you'll do a perfect recording of the track for an entire three or four minute song.

      It's not a Micro or Mini SD. It's a SDHC which is larger. But if I'm not mistaken you can get an adapter. Mine came with a 4G SDHC and I have about 25 to 30 full songs on there, but a 32G SDHC only costs $9.

      No problem.
      😂 I've had mine for years and had never even checked until you asked, then I noticed the card was only 4 gigs, I was surprised because I have quite alot of music on there, lol, I'm sure as hell going to get more cards, and larger ones.
      I haven't used it in a while, other than getting drunk to my own recordings, I should start recording again.
      The drum machine makes it really convenient and there are ways to bounce a drum track to another track, than tweak it how you want and add another drum beat over that, and separate them into the tracks, bounce them down, than export then into a new song to keep on one track. If you learn the bouncing features and the features to move from song to song, and the V tracks you can do alot and interesting tricks. That's why I like it more than computer, because all the tricks you can do. And don't forget the automatic (or foot pedal) A/B punch in and punch out, it helps.

    I read that the BR-800 records at 16 Bit, 44.1 Hz . I record directly to the BR-800 and then remove the SD card, insert it into my computer and use the BR-800 wave converter to import to my desktop, then import the file into Studio One where I can edit, mix and master. Am I losing any recording quality as opposed to using the BR-800 as an interface and recording directly to Studio One at 24 bit, 44.1 Hz? Thanks for all the instructive videos.

    How does the BR- 800 compare to the other multitrack recorders on the market , stuff like the zoom R8 and the
    Tascam DP-035D , seen as they're all about the same price point.

      The Boss has amazing effects and sweeteners built in, after Roland is the parent company and has been making great amps and effects for ages. It has pitch correct and mastering capabilities as well. All of these attributes combine to make what is in my opinion, the best multi-track recorder on the market today. What no block Head explores is, you have to record in time with the metronome!
      And you have to start recording on the 1 of your beat!
      Than the drums are arranged with the metronome, the parts, intro, verse, chorus …etc…start on the 1 of a beat!
      So when you record your guitar, with metronome, record in time…your drums are in time too!
      So that’s is a musicians law, to record in time, and that’s works only, with a metronome.
      The song start at Measure 3 on beat 1 …ok…on the drums you insert on measure 1 a break beat that end on measure 2 beat 4!
      Drums intro at measure 3 beat 1!
      Is that easy!
      And that is the way you have to work with Boss Recorders!
      In Pro Studios also!
      You go in a studio, without learn to play your song in time with a metronome? You don’t?
      The engineer will send you back home!
      Why?
      It is absolutely impossible to record a song with you, you have to learn to play your music in time, with a metronome!
      That’s how it works, in a Boss BR, in a PC DAW or in a Pro Studio.
      Cheers!

    Is there a way to change the effects chain? Like putting reverb before fuzz or editing the order of the effects?

    • @drivinivan
      @drivinivan  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Just press the Cosm Effects button and you can go in and fine tune the guitar amp, effects, noise gate etc. Also in the regular menu you can adjust the delay, reverb, chorus etc as well. Another thing I didn't mention is in the EZ record setting you can use the arrows in the microphone setting to add more or less reverb and delay, and also move from a more "wet" or "dry" sounding vocal. It is an amazing multi-tracker, and as I'm sure many of you are aware, I barely even touched up many advanced settings with the BR-800. Can you separate 5/6 and 7/8? I can only figure out how to use it as a 6 track essentially

    • @drivinivan
      @drivinivan  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You cannot technically separate the two tracks, unless you record onto one of them and then transfer it to another track. Say one and two, and then you just record over one of those tracks, for example, track 2. Of course you have virtual tracks, and you can constantly mix down some tracks, for a virtually unlimited amount of tracks overall. Thanks for watching and commenting. @@drivinivan So does it actually have 8 track simultaneous play back as advertised or just 6?

    • @drivinivan
      @drivinivan  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The answer is to go ahead and use a double track like five and six, and then copy it to track one and two for example, on virtual track. 3. At that point you can go ahead, and just use either track one, or two and erase the other because of course you need to use two tracks to copy a track from five or six or seven and eight. With the virtual tracks that you can just keep copying down and ping-ponging you literally have unlimited tracks to use. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching and commenting and please like subscribe and share. Ivan Katz.

      @@drivinivan thanks, the manual says "you can record to up to a

    i need help to overdub. Hwkp

    • @drivinivan
      @drivinivan  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Either get the "punch in" pedal, or just have someone else press the record button for you, or do it yourself if possible, or record on another virtual track, transfer it off to an audio or video editor, and edit the good bits together. You can then import that track to any virtual track you like. 5/6 or 7/8 of stereo. You can also record this way using two different tracks, or channels to record different parts of the song that you are trying to record. This way if the part is difficult, this technique would make it easier. Thanks for watching and commenting and please like subscribe and share. Ivan Katz

    Can you here yourself play with what you already recorded

    • @drivinivan
      @drivinivan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, of course. There is a headphone jack of course, and if you are just recording an instrument that is plugged in and not liked then you can actually use the external speakers.

    • @whatabouttheearth
      @whatabouttheearth 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can hear what is plugged in out of your headphones or speakers, and if your like me you'll quite occasionally forget that you left the onboard mic on from throwing down rough drafts so remember that lest you switch to distortion and get hellish feedback. You can certainly jam with anything you've already recorded, mastered or not, and you can change the effects very easily with the spin of the dial. I suggest the foot pedal also because punching in and out will be needed if you're recording by yourself.
