it was actually pretty cool how you had to take a ride on this to get where you wanted. you had to take the time to do it. felt like you were actually travelling. the fact that they removed it or rather allow you to fast travel anywhere just shows that levelling was all they cared about
Yeah, it changed so much. I believe that this is because Nexon completely changed the focus of the game. Before, it was all about choosing your path wisely and making friends on the way, playing as if it was yourself who's going on an adventure, thinking twice before going somewhere or even before choosing to start off your character with 4 str or 4 int (rolling that damned dice was a huge pain), because it would've had a great impact on your experience as a player. Now it's all about all the new classes (I think there are around 30+?), leveling up easily and quickly, spamming ridiculous skills that have a hit range all over the scree, and most importantly, not talking to anyone... The sense of adventure and community are long gone.
A change of our culture as humanity. It used to be about experience, an actual dream world, now it is all about stimulation. Back then paying a rather expensive (for new players) 15 minute ship ride with good music, chatting with people, going to places just to explore and experience was fulfilling, made it even more real. Nowadays gamers would complain about ANY waiting as being "bad design" because they want to get there NOW! Back then training a month to be level 30 and maybe get 70 after playing a year was huge achievements and fulfilment, now we just want new content NOW! Get to level 200 in a day is so much faster! Big number! Yet everything has lost meaning, a snail is no different than a hog is no different than a monkey, one city has no more meaning than the next, it is just from point A to point B and fill checkmarks of what you "should" tick.
Well sadly, prolly have to do with high level players starting to demand for more things once they reached end game and nexon started to revamp the game.
you know what's crazy? I look at the image in this video and I remember the collision boxes of all the platforms. how you could stand on the very end of the middle ridge of that little chimney then sit on your relaxer and it'd look like your chair was floating. or how I'd try to get as close to the engine as possible by walking on the cable then use my relaxer before I afked. if we're honest the only reason I talked to people on this ship is because my family pc would freeze if I tried to alt tab.
I met my first high lvl friend riding this train. Back when I first was lvling up a Cygnus Dawn Warrior. She gave me tips and tricks, as well as a decent lvl sword. Despite not using my Dawn Warrior as much since I moved onto a Wild Hunter, I still keep that sword in the top slot of my character. As a reminder that if I ever see someone in need, for me to offer some help. For it was thanks to this person that I stuck around for as long as I did
I remember the day I headed back from school and started download the game right after I got in my house, trying to be the first one among my friends to get in the game for this new town. Then I travelled to Ludibrium and got banned for 7 days due to a glitch. lol. It's funny as heck.
I remember riding this when i was 30 - 40 looking for new places to train at, i had no idea what was Ludi and where i was going to but this song made me known i was arriving to a safety place. Now here i am 10 + years later ( god has it been that long?) picturing those sweet images in my head trying to learn these BGM in piano and get that sweet nostalgia at least from those lovely days when i was happy, a happy boy with no real life worries. I was at Lv.28 when I decided to travel around the Maplestory world. I paid for the ticket at Orbis and waited for a ship to come. I didn't expect that a toy ship would come. I think that's the beginning of my dream of travelling around the world. I'm not able to do that in my real life, but at least I already did that in another world.
Back when I used to play, I always dreaded the wait time for traveling, whether it's Ellinia to Orbis or Orbis to Ludibrium. It seemed such a waste of time to have players to just wait for transportation and do nothing when the devs could just make it instant. Looking back at it now, I feel grateful that this was part of the game. Just looking at this picture and listening to the music brings back so much memories. I think this is what makes old Maplestory so amazing and nostalgic - the slow pacing of the game. Every grind session, every boat ride, and even the long walks that noobs have to take while traveling from city to city when they're low on mesos and can't afford a taxi, all these experiences that are now done in an instant were once a long journey that players need to dedicate lots of time and effort into. Sad to see that MS has decided to go another direction with the game, and we will never get to experience these precious memories ever again.
When aqua road was first released, I had to ask my friend to play to see it. I was the friend who didn't own any pc or internet, but my friends then are still my friends today thankfully. Anyways we burned an hour as a low level walking and wasting mana pots to use teleport to get to the boat in Ellinia where we missed the boat and had to wait. Got to Orbis and had to ask where to go, then was told bottom of the tower and you seen tons of people rushing to the bottom, if they didn't have the tower scrolls. We get to the bottom and some people are turning back warning people to not go unless you can survive certain amounts of damage, or can dodge well while swimming (we didn't know there was a floating swim). A whole unexplored area and people rushed into it, we see a ton of people dying because of low levels, drowning or going the wrong way. After a few maps 2 paths appeared in a map, up went and eventually took you to the Aquarium town and the bottom went to the deeper ocean maps with higher levelled stuff. Also the higher level seels were before the town and wiped many out. Only after you passed Aquarium town heading towards the whale and KFT did the lower levelled stuff appear lmao. fun times.
The aquarium town was one of my absolute favorite additions to the game, it felt so scary and exciting but also peaceful. I miss it sooo much, just floating around in the water and looking at all the scenery while being too nervous to explore too deep into the ocean depths
I guess it was a unique way to add boss content. It probably has a story line behind it but I'm not sure. Years ago Orbis was where all the pros went for job advancements and things of that sort, if you could defeat the mighty balrog on the boat you were looked high upon. Now the 100k HP they have seems like sort of a joke lmao
I remember when ludi first came out in MapleSEA way back, I rush to the nearest LAN gaming stores to get on maple just so I could get to sit this train ride to the land of LEGOS. memories man..
I had a bad memory on the ship; I playfully dropped ma staff and picked it up. Meanwhile, the ship took off, and ma staff vanished I was WAY TOO SILLY then.. lol
F4 I did the same. I had been randomly gifted a thorns staff by a higher level player back in maple europe. It was my pride and Joy and I was looking forward to reaching the required level to equip it... then I dropped it to show off and the ship arrived in orbis. The Thorns staff looked better than any cash shop item.
Tremendous fascination accompanies this track for me personally I could cry The Orbis terminal cross-boarding… the cozy ass cabin sitting on that blue chair got from port sarim, chillen in the breeze UGG!!! Then arrived landing in Ludi as a level ~40 second-job fresh noob ready to take on clockwork mobs (more soundtracks! + teddies & robots) and grind LPQ. Never got to PAP myself but hardcore maplers know! Epic times ❤❤
There is something about that background beat, it sounds like I am actually on the train and sounds are coming from the train rolling and the breeze as well. So oddly satisfying..
Dhen these rides were required I was never a high enough level to train in Ludi. It was my sense of adventure that led me to explore everywhere the game let me. Can't tell you how many time I got stuck & lost so some high-level player had to walk me back... Good times.
