    The capacitance is equal to the charge on one plate divided by the voltage across the plates. With two in series, you still have charge Q across one plate, but the voltage across the plates is V1 + V2.

    Finally understood why U = 1/2 qV. Thank you for showing the derivation process via integration, and thank you again for such a great video!

    Why is Ceq equal to Q/(V1+V2) not 2Q(V1+V2)?

    For the AP exam, do you think it's worth the effort to memorize all three equations for potential energy, or should I just remember that U= QV and derive the other formulas if I have to? Thank you for these awesome videos!

      +Jacob Smith Hi Jacob -- I wouldn't make memorizing the formulas a priority, but if you do know them off the top of your head, it could save you some time -- you're given a formula sheet for the AP exam, but I still work with my students to memorize as many as they can. Good luck!

    So I gots a question: Let's say you have a parallel-plate capacitor with a dielectric. How would the capacitance change if you put the dielectric only halfway in between the plates versus all the way in? (i.e. If the length of the plates were L, and you put the dielectric only L/2 in)

    • @DanFullerton
      @DanFullerton  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can treat that, then, as two parallel-plate capacitors in parallel (since their plates are connected together). One with half the area and no dielectric, the other with half the area and the dielectric in. Now calculate their equivalent capacitance and you'll have your answer!

      Dan Fullerton How would the potential change between the capacitor w/ dielectric and the capacitor w/o dielectric?

    How did you derive the formula for net electric field?

    • @DanFullerton
      @DanFullerton  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Typically in a previous video or textbook... which formula for net electric field?
