@@Spudboys most welcome, I love Porthcawl, I live 40 mins away from it and it's sad to hear the fair it self is being sold off and it be housing there an association as example pobl or council affordable housing it was family run for many moons absolutely gorgeous place many famous people walked through Porthcawl but stunning video it comes up thought have a good nose and it was brilliant I have subscribe and continue to watch ❤❤
I hear you, 25 year old memories - I remember my own 45 year old memories, when there was The Dirty Duck, fish and chips cost 3.35p, all the caravans ran on gas, there was zero barbed wire and nothing was fenced off. I haven't been back in many years (I live in Canada now), but in August 2025 I'll be returning for a little reminiscing of my own.
Thank you for sharing you experiance. I had some of the best times of my life there, who know 20 years later I would be looking back thinking these were amazing days
Used to holiday there in the 70s, remember the Dirty Duck well, me and my brother used to play Space Invaders and Asteroids in there. Also remember the life size model dinosaur park on the way to the fairground. I remember the Matterhorn Ride at the fair when it was new, probably gone now...Brilliant holidays.
I once entered a break dance competition in the dirty duck when I was a kid in the 80s , I was out pretty quick but my brother came second 😂! Great memories
I remember when i was a kid, during Miners fortnight we'd all come down from the Valleys. Trecco was known as "Hello Butty Bay" because you'd walk around and you'd know everyone and you'd just be saying "hello butty!" All day 😂
Aw man, I'm sorry that I made you homesick. New Zealand is amazing, you can visit hobbititon! Hope you enjoyed the vlog and thank you for the comment. Glad I could connect you with some good memories
I didn't know you was dropping your video today lol, great minds think alike. Although you are in this vlog, my next one will be called Exploring with the Journey Men :) which was an amazing video. Absolutely amazing meeting you both, can't wait for more future adcentures
1:10 Very nice pub behind you, Mike. 1:35 Custom House Street. Bus is on the other side of the road, lol. 2:30 told you. 6:25 Go for it. Do not film in the market arcade, not aloud. 17:55 try one of those machines, guarantee 100% return. 18:40 nice photo before pictures edit. 20:10 you can have VR cake. 21:10 looks like Craig's home set up. 27:30 Great tour of Trecco Bay, thank you Mike. 35:30 The people behind you are in you vlog now. 36:15 great flash back pictures. 37:15 Sand snakes. 40:00 Spudboys bucket hats. 43:15 I have Subscribed to @journeymenforlife . 44:00 oh no Mike, you copied someone, lol. 54:00 that was funny. 54:50 sniff and lick. Great ending the the Journey Men. Well worth watching. Thank you to the 3 Guys.
That pipe you stood on was in the former caravan park known as Sandy Bay where they built a swimming baths/hydroslide facility in the mid 80s but it was quickly closed down and abandoned. They also had a pub nearby where daytrippers would flock called The Dirty Duck and it was part of a Porthcawl daytrip for us valley folk. Great video and thanks for helping me to remember my favourite childhood place with such fondness =)
@richardheath1570 thank you for the information. It was such a great vlog to make because of all the fond memories I got in the place. I am very please I was able to reconnect you with the past. Have a great day
Yea they are changing it all, apparently putting flats on the old fair and stiff which such because I got some real rmf9nd memories down there. Thanks for the comment matey
Holidays at Trecco in the 1970s were amaing . Communial bins with three steps to lift the lid ,concrete rings with stand pipes for fresh water, sand pits for kids to play in in between the caravans , a man wa lked around shouting echo, another shouting donuts, get your car battery charged at the petrol station next to the dirty duck pub ,so you could watch a hr of tv , as you say mike memories. I bought a camper in 1988 so i could go to trecco every weekend .I would park along the espalade. Counci has stopped it now . I LOVE PORTHCAWL ❤ .
Haha amazing. I have some incredible memories, some of them I've shared in this vlog. This was a vlog I've wanted to do for a long time because I know how precious the memories are. Really glad I could connect you with yours and thank you for sharing your past. Hope you enjoyed the video
loved it down there shame i didnt see you the chippy wasnt too good when we had it , iced cola was amazing burger king an boathouse was where we ate the most
I found an incredible chippy that's in the next vlog. Such a shame I missed you mate, I loved having the trip down memory lane. Hope you had an awesome time mate
My aunt used to visit a friend who stayed at the caravans and I used to go with her, I don’t remember where but I remember walking through caravans and there was a big red swirly slide in the middle where you ride in a sack. Playing air hockey with my uncle, playing on the 2p coin pushers with my aunt. When we go through life, at some point it will be your last trip, your last game with your relatives and we don’t know when and it sucks. my uncle and aunt are still alive but we haven’t been since my aunts friend who stayed at the caravan died.
@blaidd-cysgodol2567 aw thank you for sharing the memories with us. It hold a special place in loads of people's hearts, good and unfortunately some bad
Funny you should go to Porthcawl Mike, me and my partner popped down there in the car Wednesday evening after my choir practice. We are both older than you of course, the other half remembers loads to do with how the place used to look because of hols every year, my experiences were day outs mostly so always around the beach and fairground. I always have an ice cream from the last vendor as you leave the fairground area, always a nice double scoop. And what trip to Porthcawl is complete without a little candyfloss, though I didn't get any Wednesday as there was nowhere open lol. You should check out the hols with The Sun newspaper, £9.50pp or £15pp hols, based on 4 sharing, some really great places too. Have you enquired about the Hanbury Arms in Pontypool yet?
What an epic comment thank you so much! It's amazing to have that trip down memory lane, really glad you enjoyed the video. I haven't looked into the handbury arms yet but will do soon. Bring everyone a haunted vlog :)
Can only buy a caravan off site to own so they're all parkdean and they're scattered everywhere on site My nan has one and I've been going there for 25 years (30 now) It's not a cheap holiday at all 😅 That chippy on site is horrible too. Beales or finnigans over the town is nicest
You know, after I made this vlog I had Beales and it blew my mind, such amazing chips. It's only cheap if you know someone I guess which is a shame because we used to go there because it was cheap, it was a cheap and amazing holiday. Seems so different now but as long as memories are being made that's all that counts. Thank you for the comment have a great day
Was there a few weeks ago... place is now a proper tourist trap. everything costs a fortune, and that curry house on site is not great... tasted very ASDA box curry deal to me.
I don't understand why things have to change. I had some incredible memories there but like you said it's a tourist trap. They care about making money rather than making memories. It's a shame about the curry house, it looked massive
