A lot of things in this video are really well said! Really good one! One more thing I would say is that people need to stop talking so much about the "writer's block". I know that it's hard sometimes to come up with ideas, but you just need to keep trying and keep trying. I always found that short breaks for youtube videos (like this one hehe) are really helpful when I get frustrated with a project. Or starting with a blank project, trying out new methods, learning new things and experimenting. That way I made some of my best tracks!
Yes! You just have to come to terms with the fact that writers block does not exist. There are times where you won't be feeling too inspired but if you chose to not let that be an excuse to stop making music, you will go far, and you'll learn to never experience that so called "writers block".
@@_lowfer I know exactly how to use it. I take my crappy sounding synthe bass with no mids to be found and then I put OTT to level it out (cause that's the original purpose of a multiband compressor) and that's how I get that sick Lowfer sound.
I really just wanna see some detailed videos of how these producers are mixing and processing their tracks. Seems to be the one thing everyone really wants to see.
or you can learn to do it yourself... in your own way... just like they did.. Don't understand comments like yours and I see them all the time. You want artists to spoon feed you the step by step method of how THEY make a track. I find that super laughable and a tell tale sign that people like yourself don't really care to make music that actually has a purpose. Just so you can flex a track you didn't struggle for hours to make.
Based_ Demi yet here you are watching a video on advice from producers. Guarantee you’ve watched your fair share of tutorials to see how things are done. Stop acting like you’re unique
Really well done pointing out some of these issues. I have been at this for almost ten years now and i may not have had a "big" break or anything but it's never stopped me doing what I do, the main important thing is that you are doing it because you love it , i feel like a lot of people do it because they think it's the "cool" thing to do because one person may have had quick success in the past, it's never always gonna be like that they probably just got super lucky. So yeah to sum this up if you put in the hard work someone will eventually pick you up if you have something to bring to the table, just keep on the grind and keep experimenting ! Great video guys! :)
Kinda funny how even when I started producing, I never really got affected by the third mistake. The only mistake I still do sometimes is number four even though I made music for over a year now. I have been doing the fourth mistake less and less though
How would you do when there are no more ideas to produce dubstep? I feel that I am producing something that has already been done and the inspiration does not come out
@Khemzys Official thanks, I needed that advice, I listen to varied music to relax or think and sometimes some melodies of that music I transform them and put them on my track but always changing does not copy and paste but I change it without losing the essence of the original melody, thanks seriously that advice to listen to more varied music I liked, I will apply it from today
Dont restrict yourself to industry standards. Make weird shit. I mean mad stuff. Pull drum samples from farts. I once recorded my ironing board screeching and turned it into a serious serum waveform. Dont be afraid to spend HOURS on a pad/lead patch. Get sample packs from other genres. Drums from old industrial house music work really well in liquid dubstep. Old hiphop drum kits with fat 808/909 samples work well in riddim. Free plugin experimentation . TH-cam tutorials from other genres adaptation to your genre. Set time trials for yourself. Whenever i get stuck, working on a particular patch for hours always pulls me out. Just one serum/massive/audjoo helix patch over a drum loop has saved me tons of sleep ironically.
cris cardenas The are no rule in music.. Once you understand what are the rules of a dubstep track.. you just have to break them. New sound, new melody, new rhythm, new percussion.. It dosen't really matter if it sounds good
Honestly, I feel like the best ideas I have for song melodies always come after the periods where I think I have something and then I listen to it and I'm like that's this song or that sounds like s$t. Just wait it out, and while you're waiting: practice DJing without any cues or wonder about the meaning of life - just generally teat your DAW like the plauge until some good ideas come flowin.
I started producing a few years ago. I started with a pair of cheap gaming headphones, and a M-Audio Oxygen 49 Keyboard. I made "Tolerable" sounding music. Now I'm running a Schiit Stack (Schiit Modi 3 DAC, and Magni 3 amp) paired with sennheiser HD650s. Since then, I have learned a quite a bit more music theory and I can definitely tell a difference in my previous mixes and learned from the mistakes I was making. I'm not great by any means, but I have definitely improved since my early days. Videos like these help me a ton with improving my sound. I appreciate these videos, please keep them coming. Bruh who needs to buy OTT when I can just model everything in Serum and use its BUILT IN multiband compressor which = OTT. Nvrmnd the fact that Serum is $190 and OTT is 15 bucks.
Guys one important thing for beginner producer is "ear protection". Must remember that hearing loss may or may not be recover.beginner producers not knowing this fact and put their headphones for hours and it's not good for their health. Take breaks after certain minutes.strech your ears and do exercise. For genre like dubstep/brostep producers deal with harsh frequencies many times so ear protection is must.remember that HEALTH is first not your initial track that may or may not be listened by many people.
@@squids24 I legit blew one of my speakers the other day cause I was working on a high frequency and it made me think "hmm maybe I should be more careful for my ears" lmao
I later found out that delay plugins with the Time Very Small can produce the same effect as flangers but with more control, but if you like the unpredictable effect then go with a flanger
In that case I meant standard delay verses the flanger variant of delay, what I was struggling before was making sounds more powerful. I feal like the delay effects can make sound appear like they are played by a large orchestra if the time is small, if you have any other suggestions please let me know.
Seriously, number 3 is important. There are entire industries trying to sell you a million plugins you don't need too. Learn the concepts of synthesis before you blow all your money on a ton of software synths. The important thing is have a solid additive/subtractive, FM, and wavetable synth. And honestly Serum can do all of that, so I'd recommend learning that in and out then consider other stuff.

Yes, there is no secret to success. But there is a way to reach your highest level as a Music producer. And its very simple really: Learn Music! I can´t believe that new producers today are concerned about sound engineering and DAW tricks! Thats like trying to be a professional pole vaulter without doing weight training and proper nutrition. If you dont learn to play instruments... If you skip learning music theory… then you´re setting yourself up for failure! Its not all technical. A professional swimmer doesn´t skip training just because he/she has a shark suit that lowers the resistance by a few procent. There are no shortcuts folks! Before even getting yourself a DAW you should have 5-10 years experience playing an instruments, playing in a band, studying Music theory. My advise is this: Be a composer first… and an engineer second.
