For the first ..... hundred... times i've watched this, i swore Eliot said "FLY" when he held that high note, which I thought that's what the ship heard and so flew

Season 3 of The Magicians is, for sure, one of the best things that has ever been done by SyFy. This scene is a fine example of it. So fucking memorable.

The saddest part is just how weak Quentin is in the series compared to how insanely powerful he becomes in the books after Alice died. The quote Pain is Magic is a reference to how Quentin became better at casting then the six fingered beast in his grief over losing Alice until he gave up magic entirely for a time.

What is so brilliant about this song is how every verse that the characters sing has something to do with that characters current arc. I applaud the writers for this masterpiece of an episode.
It's pretty obvious that they picked this song early in the season and wrote story lines that would give each of the characters parts of the song that would match their arcs. Extremely well executed. I think this should win an MTV award or two for whatever category it fits.
My heart exploded when quentin and alice sang about giving love another chance while looking at each other.
That line that Penny and Kady sing, "keep coming up with love but it's so slashed and torn" is so perfect for them T_T

Looking back at this, we can really see that it's Quntein who really is the glue to the gang.. really miss him
In this group, Quentin is like the hub of the wheel. It's deeply ironic that the guy who in season one retreated from a party to reread a Fillory book becomes the social center of this talented collection of magicians.
I like that the writers repositioned the character in that way, because it gave them more space to develop all the side characters from the books that form the rim of the wheel, but I don't like they killed off Q at the end of S4. Apparently Jason Ralph thought there was nothing more for him to do though.

@@Struwwel2 imo his character should have had Fen's role in the series finale. She's from Fillory, sure, but I just think Q would've made the moment so much more emotionally impactful. I really feel like Q just should have been there for the end. It never felt right after he left.
I like to think he survived in one of the alternate timelines. Remember the Penny from the first series was replaced later by a version of him from another timeline.

Normally I despise musical episodes, I'm just not into that format of storytelling, but this was worked into the plot so well and the quality of the performance was so good that I absolutely loved it! I was not even a fan of the song "Pressure" but now I listen to it when I need lifted up out of the dark places in my life. Absolute excellence imo!

Same, I’m really anti musical, and this is the first musical number I’ve ever listened to multiple times. I think specifically because it’s part of the plot (what I mean is that the story is self aware)

I think this is the moment that really cemented Q's value to the group. He's really the only one who acted as a unifier and looked beyond individual necessity to recognize that everyone really was stronger as a group. The show was genius in the way that it framed his belief in magic and in people as naivete in the world he existed in while also pointing out the merits of it in every crisis.
A cultural writer called him a "conduit character" because he connects all the disparate characters, or can arrange them (and their plotlines) to link up. It makes him superfluous the second after that happens, but vital to the writing of the characters.

Under Pressure and Take On Me are two of my favourite songs so that they did both cements The Magicians as an iconic show.
One of the best "unexpected" musical moments in a show ever! Still can't watch it without getting emotional.
I usually hate when people do this. Singing scenes with dancing and shit. But... This was just perfect. It had a justification, and the song was a perfect pick. AMAZING.

This is the best season of The Magicians, so well estructured, and the whole concept of living a full life/having a son/Die and the fusion of 2 realities while reading a letter and bitting a peach... It gave me the chills... And now this epic song leading to a climax of the characters in unity.
Seasons 2 and 3 are great in their own way. Season 2 circulates around Fillory and Reynard, whereas season 3 is about dealing with Fairies (literally) and questing for keys. All seasons have their own plot twists and changes, and that's what makes this show amazing

One of the best TV series ive ever seen. The storyline, effects and acting is perfect. This scene which is somewhat heartwarming and funny while in dire situations is great.

It was pretty obvious what was going to happen from the moment they mentioned how Prometheus made the keys in the first place.
It's not gone my friend, Alice was still locked even after Julia said that she can't hear the voices anymore. She did not lost her power, she was just drained, very drained. Pretty sure they will grow stronger. I hope so at least.

I love that the motion to cue up music and stuff is the exact same in this scene and the take on me scene . Its the lil things.
It feels so good to listen to this again. I adored this scene. Not only is this a great song, but their voices are shockingly good. (Though Julia is definitely the least talented even though she doesn't sound horrible) Kady and Elliot have incredible voices. I hope we can get another song like this in an episode in season 4.
I’d put Penny under Julia honestly, his voice was very flat. However, both Kady and Eliot have gorgeous voices. I was floored honestly
magic8ball331 Yeah, they both were the weaker voices. But I kind of feel felt like Penny wasn't trying that much because he thought it was stupid which is probably why I didn't think of his as worse than Julia.
I just found out that Juliet was the only one who actually sang in the scene, the others are lip singing. I wonder what affect that would have had on there abilities.
TVOCD hmmm. That’s a really good point. The rest of them are singing with their real voices but lip-synching to a recording of themselves from the studio, if that makes sense. So its their voices, just recorded before filming. If Julia’s singing live on set it’ll sound a little less polished and raw. The Les Mis cast sang live on set and it sounded similar, and got a lot of flak from people saying they couldn’t sing. Must be something similar I imagine
That's actually not true. At least I don't think so. I watched a behind the scenes thing from it today, and Sarah Gamble I believe it was said it was recorded in the studio and the actors had to lipsync. The actress who plays Margot (Summer Bishil) said in the video that she was singing on set, yes. But it didn't sound good. She knew it didn't and had to pretend it did because she knew the studio track they'd already made would be put over the scene. So while they did technically sign live on set they didn't USE their voices from that performance, but the polished studio recording. Which is standard practice, in pretty much all of Hollywood productions for music. Musicals generally don't use the voices that are recorded on the set, they use a studio recording and have the actors lip-sync to their pre-recorded selves. It also specifically said that they had to sync up all of it, not just voices but also their moves like the dancing choreography. They have two choreographers who helo the actors. Even their tuts (what its called apparently when you do those complicated hand movements used for the spells) have to be choreographed. They get videos sent to them by their choreographer and have to practice the motions with their hands. Some, unfortunately, aren't as good as others at it though lol. Apparently, Oliva Taylor Dudley (Alice Quinn) isn't very good at the tuting so she has her spell hand movements more simplified than some of the others in the cast. Jade Tailor (Kady) and Summer Bishil (Margot) are both dancers, and they said they could more easily memorize the choreography. But not everyone can.

I cannot stop myself from coming almost everyday to this video, that just shows how awesome this musical episode and performance by the actors is.
I just feel all this positivity and friendship and about friends getting through it together, so everytime i watch it, i don't feel alone anymore, i feel like all of them are my friends.
That's the greatness which they achieved with this episode.

@@duendeldle i see it as an empire strikes back type ending. a Pyrrhic victory at best, designed to propel the series beyond the scope of the books. for what its worth, i think season 4 is good so far. lots of weird and interesting consequences from last season with the same bold smart style.

I wanna cry so bad. I love this. I love this connection, the harmony between the characters, even when they are underpressure.
I think one great thing about this is how they portray the characters. Not that they arent powerful each of them but that they can do cooperative casting for amazing effects exceeding most limits, That unity is more powerful.
I don't know why but this was the first time I cried watching The Magicians
Josh's voice is so gentle and perfectly fitting.
