The Zagwe dynasty (or kingdom) was located in modern-day Eritrea and Ethiopia and lasted from about 900 to 1270 AD, when they were conquered by another Abyssinian (Ethiopian) kingdom. They weren't especially well-known to Mediterranean (let alone European) kingdoms, but they had some loose cultural and economic ties to Egypt and Jerusalem.
To help a bit with the german word Soldritter: Sold is the pay of warriors and soldiers, Ritter is the german word for knight. Soldritter was a term used to describe knights that had either paid off their debt/bought themselves out of the fief to their liege and then fought for payment rather than because they were obligated to fight a specific amount of days a year for their liege, kinda like mercenaries, or they were the later born sons of knights who wouldn't get a share of the inheritance, so they too fought for payment and to maybe gain some land or something else for themselves.
The cheirosiphōnes hand-held siphon soldiers projecting "Greek fire" would have had very short-range, with a single "shot". I've not seen any evidence of portable containers for re-loading the syringes on the battlefield. Think of a brass garden syringe full of petrol. Range about 20 yards.
Apollo the Prussians are adding artillery on our new map! I have been trying to get videos of it but the staff are wanting to surprise people. Loved the video and keep up the great work!
That was impressive of the Zagwe player. Even though he was defeated, his low tech tier soldiers had the edge on empress. I think those two had a vicious engagement. I don't mind Apollo's "squirrel" moments. If I dont like it I fast forward.
@Smile_ Virus_ maybe if you devise more mobility and disengagement in the same situation. Kinda guerrilla but commit on the advantage. I'm not too sure as i havent played TW in years let alone the upgrades. So I'm not criticizing, just curious if its even possible to perform
Though they might not have been extremely effective, it still stuns me to think that the Greeks had flame throwers. Speaks a lot about Greek innovation of that time.
A good unit to make is a Gamer brigade. Big guys rolling along in unison on their computer chairs and recliners, armed with Lysol, lighter esc flame throwers.
Man I wish I could send you a battle from 10 years and 2 PCs ago on Rome total war. It was a 2v2 Rome vs barbarians. My teammate played the defensive stance I went aggressive. However, I leave 2 cohorts to help try and curb his enemies flank for him. I take heavy losses but my men fight through the barbarians and I am able to swing my army around. My teammate however lost, and I was forced to fight. This was a wooded map and I had brought a scorpion… what I thought was a mistake turned into brilliance! My enemy and myself were down to a couple of units, me a half dead legion and a single scorpion, he with 2 barbarian heavies. I ran my legion in a circle around his army while my scorpion shot them in the back, I killed one unit of his but almost lost my own…. Things were dire. I tried to kite him with my legion so my scorpion would shoot him as my men could not take his. He goes for my scorpion and I flank him…. At this point it’s a scorpion crew and a handful of men against melee infantry and my men broke. He chased the legion and I put my crew back on the scorpion, he realizes his mistake too late and the crew shoots them down as he tries to re engage as I pull a victory from jaws of defeat!

As a German, I can confirm that it wasn't Holy, Roman, or an Empire. It was more of a loose coalition in between the kingdoms of Bavaria, Bohemia, Burgundy, and other small Duchies and counties like Österreich, Mecklenburg, etc etc. It was only called Roman because people believed the world would end once the Roman Empire fell, so ja. And also they did have some rule over Roman.and Italian lands at one point.
@@Jürgen_von_Schumacher for me Rome fell once they changed the capital(3 times)for zero reason and then the final straw was when Alaric besieged Rome in 410. After that everyone else is just a legacy empire.
@@coolichka42 yeah, that makes sense. I didn't know they changed their capital three times though 😂 I thought it was only once because Rome had lost most of its significance and was only good for prestige. Me personally, I have no idea if that's true but it seems pretty unlikely that they'd change their capital three times just because Rome wasn't important enough. Perhaps you can shed more light on that? Also, my source for this was a documentary I watched a couple of months ago. And I agree, after Alaric sieged Rome, yeah that kind of did them in.

One I hate with a vengeance about 1212ad is how they stick shields on everything even when hugely inaccurate. It destroys my immersion.
The think is at the time 1212 AD people use shield as their main mean of defense because well armor is fucking expensive
