My last Food Saver of 20 years finally gave up the ghost and I'm looking to replace it. Thanks for the review. The unit you demoed will same me a lot of steps. I believe I'll stay with the Food Saver brand even though there are cheaper ones out there available.

Great review Count. I wish you had done a review on more of the accessories. Can't wait to have my freezers like yours.

With all we are experiencing purchasing meat/veggies and fruit, (Covid)I bought this model(and another) & thank you very much for the video.
In the late 80's I bought a Food Saver & loved it. I look forward to beginning anew & trust the same enthusiasm upon my first undertaking.
Thank you again! * It would be nice if you zeroed in on the model & showed us the icons to familiarize us with this specific model-seeing and
getting use to where the buttons are is a plus...* just a helpful thought... Thanks...hope you all are "indoors" and enjoying cooking...and each other :)
(March 28, 2020.....NY)..God bless you all..

Thanks for watching VitaZgal. The FoodSaver model I have is the V5860. I bought it directly from FoodSaver when I was checking out their newest model (a few years ago). I've never seen this model in any store so I think it may be only available online through their website. We use our FoodSaver almost daily for something. I hate throwing away food, especially for freezer burnt foods. I will take your advice and zero in on the buttons for my next video. Thanks for the advice. God bless and stay healthy. We will get through this!

@@CookingwiththeCount :) LOVED the shot inside your freezer...That's how I lived yrs
ago & seriously want to do that again...it was a way of life & I loved it! Back then we couldn't buy from FoodSaver directly-they sent me to SAMS Club which I had never heard of & that started all things rolling with saving & eating FOODSAVER packed food. I actually just or'd 3 machines(Prime shipping wouldn't arrive 'til the 17th Amazon felt
this item wasn't necessary with crisis at hand..I called them to push for rush delivery..they are not taking any calls..so have them coming from diff't sites to save the things I have now)...:) 1 totally basic coming...one with marinade(I don't know how to do that...!!) and other much like your's-the 5860... I was in a hurry..lol...I have packs & packs of Bell & Evans Organic chicken & grass fed beef...am going to look at your videos-I know they will be enjoyable... I think I saw you hadn't done one in a few months..hope you'll keep them coming... especially now(if it's good timing for you) Do you Air Fry? or Ninja Indoor Grill & Air Fryer or Ninja Foodi? ...yes..we'll get through this! :) Thanks...I'll check out all you have there-starting now... hee hee! (I'm excited) !

I came for the ceviche....oh my that looks so yummy. I’ve never made ceviche only buy it when HEB my local grocery store here in Texas makes it.
And thank you for the nice in-depth review on the Food Saver. I recently bought the 5480 model not as fancy as yours; I have to manually pull my bag out...lol. I ask myself “why I didn’t buy one sooner”. I know ppl complain about bag costs but tossing food out is much more costly than the bags.

Hi Karen, thanks for watching. My entire freezer contents are vacuum sealed. I take advantage of all the sales and individually vacuum seal everything I purchase. The cost of bags is minimal compared to throwing away a $30 roast because it got freezer-burnt. You don't need a fancy model FoodSaver, the cheap one does the same job as the expensive one with maybe 30 seconds more work LOL Don't forget all the other uses you can benefit by using the vacuum feature too.

@@CookingwiththeCount Well said...my first FoodSaver in late 80's...it was my favorite...there was only one model back
then... worked like a charm...I may still have one in a closet -have to try it out & see if it still works... any model works wonders!

When I'm doing things, that are really liquidity, then I'll put an open bag in the freezer. Once the liquid has somewhat frozen, then I'll seal the bag. If I get too much liquid in the tray, then the machine won't work. I'll have to dry out the tray with paper towels. I have a different machine, than you, but I'm thinking about buying another machine, like this one. My first machine started giving me problems, before the 2 year warranty was up and they sent me a new machine with bags. So, the 2 warranty is very valuable.

#1 - I sure hope you have a generator in case your power goes out long term. The thousands of $$$$ you have in your freezer would be a huge loss ! #2 - I have a Food Saver model 4440. It gets over heated after two bags. How long do you have to wait with this newer 5800 series model ? That’s my beef with Food Saver units. This is the second one I’ve had and it does the same thing the first one did. The biggest reason I’m considering a Food Saver again is because a lot of the higher priced vacuum units don’t have a “moisture” mode. When I make Spaghetti Sauce, I make in in a HUGE pot ! I like to freeze it like as you do, to freeze your food for way in the future use. A unit that doesn’t have a moisture option is about useless to me. I make a lot of meals with the idea of freezing the rest of it for future use. So nice to be able to just pull it out of the freezer, pop the bag into a boiling pot of water, cut the bag and pour it onto your plate. Sorry this was so long but you seem to be the person to ask. Thanks in advance.

Hi Jackie, Thanks for watching. Yes, I have a 40 KW whole house generator. We actually suffered a big loss several years ago when the compressor went out on the freezer. We fired up all the ovens, grills, and the 6-burner stove and pre-cooked/cooked up about 50% of the frozen foods and gave it away to friends and neighbors. The other half was given to people to finish thawing out and cook that night for dinner. I wanted to cry but the neighbors were appreciative. Fortunately, we only had to throw away a few items that I didn't want to take a chance on. No amount of planning can replace dumb luck! At least I didn't have to throw it all away.
Unfortunately the over-heating factor I believe is a design flaw of the Food Saver. The heating elements are set back too far to cool off fast enough. I'm sure it's probably a safety issue so a child or person can't reach in the slot and burn their fingers. My solution, you might laugh at me, but I actually blow across the opening when I pull my bag out and it cools the element enough that I can keep sealing bag after bag without interruption. I totally agree with you on the moisture feature being a lifesaver. I do the same with my spaghetti and Alfredo sauces. It's so much easier to throw together a lasagna or Chicken and Broccoli stuffed shells when you don't have to make the sauce too. I hope my little tip about blowing in the slot helps you out. Please visit my website and see some of my recipes at www.CookingwiththeCount.com. God Bless and Bon Appetit!!!

Cooking with the Count Thank you for your helpful reply. I have even squirted electronic keyboard aerosol cleaner spray on it. It comes out COLD as you well know. Didn’t help my 4440 model much. Maybe it’ll help this new one I have coming. I contacted Food Saver asking them about the 5800. They are exchanging my 4440 for the 5800. They even paid the shipping for the return of my 4440 that I’ve had since 2017 ! Their customer service is spectacular !

I wish you would show how to do baked goods without crushing them when making a sealed bag.

    • @pontoonboatsolutions
      @pontoonboatsolutions 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Hi Kevin, thanks for watching. I seal my baked goods by freezing them on a cookie sheet in the freezer for an hour or so first, then I put them in a food saver bag. Once the baked good is frozen I can't/don't crush the baked item. I do the same thing for fish and seafood. It avoids the liquid of the fish from spoiling the seal and turning the fish to mush. I hope this helps you.

@@pontoonboatsolutions I'm glad to hear this. I just ordered one from QVC and I can't wait to get it. I just threw out a cheap one that just did not do the job well. Not really cheap, it cost me $100. But it was cheap crap. Thanks for your review.

Save money and buy bags & containers when foodsaver.com has its bogo sales. Buy pasta in bags only never boxes. Be careful when vacuum sealing pasta in bags because some have sharp edges and can puncture the bags. Not scare of freezer burn just the power going out lol. I just would have vacuum the whole cheese bag in the bag, it has id if later recalls happen so write info from meat packs on bags. Freeze the sauce in blocks then vacuum seal them
