Hello from another family looking to travel off-road with a baby (currently 7 months old)! I love your videos and am always linking them to other people with kids looking to do something similar. The bushing failure you experienced is not uncommon regardless brand (Icon, King, ADS, etc.). It comes from the fact that such bushings are racing parts without any dust sealing, so if dust or grime gets into the bushing (as opposed to just along the edge of the contact area), it eats away at the nylon bearing material and, once a gap appears between the nylon and the metal bushing, more and more dust gets in and it gets rapidly worse. In fact, getting 60,000 miles out of those bushings is a pretty big accomplishment as I generally view them as a 15,000 to 20,000 mile service item. That's why I've since switched to only suspension components where the joints are sealed.
If going back to the factory head unit I highly recommend the Beat-Sonic connect interface for wireless CarPlay and AA. Gives the old head unit new life.
@@LifestyleOverlandGROM V line or V lite might be another option, similar to the beatsonic by using the factory screen to get AA and CarPlay. Didn't realize the nav upgrade options were more limited on the GX460 or the nav to non-nav conversion pretty much non-existent. I'm finally sourcing all the parts to do the nav to non-nav conversion on my 2005 GX470 and go with a Sony headunit. Looking forward to seeing what LSO comes up with
I have had a Bush Company black series RTT for 10 years here in Aus. They have the best quality canvas and shells of any make :D Love the new camper guys its awesome.
Love the idea of a trailer like that. The issue for me is there are many trails where I doubt you could get that through a few some obstacles. So a through trip is out of the question without a lot of backtracking.
Being the negative Nellie here. At over $50 grand base price this trailer is far beyond the reach of a lot of subscribers. That said I would buy one in a heartbeat if I could.
Agreed, it's definitely not a cheap trailer. To build something that will put up with our constant use/abuse requires a high level of quality components and craftsmanship. Having been in construction and manufacturing over the years it's wild for me to see how much costs have increased just in the raw materials, much less the labor expenses, not to mention the overhead like buildings, tools, insurance, etc. We could have gone with a cheaper trailer but the fact is those units wouldn't stand up to our use-case. There are lots of other options out there and you'll never hear us say this is the only way to go, but if you're someone who wants a unit that can go for months at a time then this is one of the better options. Like a few mentioned here, building your own is another way to ensure quality but that also requires a lot of time and skills. Oh and don't forget that the main thing is to get out there with what you have. It's easy to get distracted with the gear but it's really only a small part of the experience. 👍
Man this is like goals for me. Just to have a trailer like that and just to be able to travel to see all these beautiful place before we all check out. Love the video and you earn a sub from me! keep up the good work!
Australian and SA overland products are the best! For your new trailer I would recommend the Australian made Hitch-Ezy. With this hitch you can couple your vehicle and trailer from any approach angle and with any camber in the terrain. Makes connecting a lot easier when off-roading. But you have to pay for quality. The Hitch-Ezy is kind of pricey compared to American/Chinese products.
I like those hitches as well and we may test one at some point. We've been running the Max Couplers since 2016 and they've also been very reliable and strong. Just slightly more difficult to pin up but not bad.
If you havent rebuilt the shocks yet, go check out rlt suspension in sandy utah. Miles and the guys there are top notch. Theyre a dealer for just about every major shock and can rebuild them.
Great trailer. I hope you create countless memories with your family. You baby girl is so cute, you will become a millionaire if you make her the face of a baby product brands. Take some pictures and send them to Pampers, Huggies, etc. Can you be so kind to indicate: 1. The make and model of your tires 2. Make and model of your rims 3. Make and model of the camping oven. Thanks in advance.
Hey guys love the new rig!! Please can you share the make and model of the stove top oven you used. I looked on you Amazon but the one there is not the same and love the glass window
Sadly I don't have a link for that. The case was from another oven that is now discontinued on Amazon. I'm sure someone has a bag the right size out there though.
Hey Kevin. I know you typically tow with the GX most of the time, but when towing with the 4Runner do you recommend regearing? I am presently on stock size tires with a mild lift but eventually will go to 33’s, 285 70 R17. Thanks for your input and hope to see all of you in May at West in Flagstaff. Tom
Message me over on Patreon and I'll get it to you. We're building a GPS sharing program now so it's better if I hand deliver data until we finish beta testing the new platform. 👍
Does the trailer still fit in the garage with the new RTT? It looks like you have standard height garage doors? Love the channel! This vid was one of my wife and my new favorites.
I am curious, Stacy at the 17:21 mark is using an Instapot. I am working on plans on making an off-road camper and want to be able to have enough juice to run one for the wife. What size inverter were the running?
That is actually an awesome dude. Super helpful on the whole process but the radio is just junk. Maybe there's other brands that are better but I don't have time to find out 🤣
I still puzzle over the glass. Maybe the front tire threw a rock that bounced just the wrong way. Back glass I get, I've had it happen (as y'all have) twice. Two years in a row!
I had a glass expert chime in and suggest it was an certain kind of inclusion within the glass that can randomly shatter with time. That almost seems more plausible since the angles of attack on that window would require a major league curveball lol
I don't need kevlar gloves to set this one up 😁 That Coleman was great, but this is a better setup and tear down experience. Also, that window is super handy!
@@LifestyleOverland Thought that might be the case as the Coleman has sharp edges and It's nice to be able to see what's happening with out opening the door and loosing the heat.
you are slowly going toward RV type travel. it's like a trend, RTT and simple set up, than little more storage space with small trailer, than big trailer, than small RV, and than a big RV. ICON is just not surprise here I heard it from many people, any stock goes more 100K and ICON is just fancy and poor quality.

South African gears are awesome! Bush Company is a really good choice 👍🏻.
It's been a great experience getting to know the owner and his story. Truly inspiring and we're excited to be partnering up on this.
I’m stoked that you are “Going Bush”! I love my AX27 that I’ve had for a couple of years now. Cool to see you are going to be a dealer.
