The first What If comic had a wonderful little in-joke, where we see Spidey being punched, and the Watcher intones, "And there's a question whether Spider-Man's encounter with a colorfully-clad alien happened in this continuity or another." A brief "non-reference" to Spider-Man vs. Superman, which had very recently come out at that time.
I always loved the What If stories. Keep them coming!
Some of this are so fun. It is exciting to see if the What if ends up better or worse for the hero or not.
Loved it bro. Like I said before I'm collecting all series 1 for collectability, nostalgia, and just great wacky stories. Keep up the great job and I'll keep collecting. Had them before back in the 70's I'll keep recollecting again.
This is a great idea and I really enjoyed this episode. If you do continue, that would be solid. There aren't enough really good, interesting, series reviews like this of comics that really appeal to me. I love your content and keep up the great work, sir!

I love what if. I think west coast avengers. Silver sable, what if and warlock and the infinity watch were slept on in the 90s. They were dope
What if Rick James had become The Hulk. That would be SUPER-FREAKY ;)
This was always one of my favorite series when I was a kid. Great break from the comic book norm. Definitely loved revisiting these. Great idea.
I love What if! Marvel recently reissued the teade paperback collection of the first twelve issues; I brought it and I can't wait to dive into it.
Love the video I'm collecting all the first series graded and ungraded. What If 10 is a bitch to get a hold of in a high grade.

Okay , I've procrastinated long enough ..I'm getting this NOW ! I'm only going to comment on the first three issues (I swear I watched the entire video) because they meant so much to me as a kid .I was about a year into collecting when What If premiered but I had already read hundreds of back issues already so I had context for these stories . In addition to issue one being so unique at the time , there was even a reference to the Superman / Spider-man cross over. I loved that .The Hulk story was fun for me because at the time the Hulk was being written with slightly more intelligence than he had been and I wanted to see him with Banner's intellect so this issue scratched that itch years before Bill Mantlo did it in the Hulk title .Respectfully disagree with you on issue 3 ..I loved the Iron Man armors , but what I REALLY loved the Kane /Janson art . What If 3 was one beautiful comic book .
If I have a vote , mine is for you to keep making these kinds of videos .I first started following you and Captain Frugal because you were the ones that actually talked about comic book history . My lifelong passion has been Comic BOOKS , not Comic Book DRAMA ..I know yours is too so I hope the views warrant their continuation . Dang ..this comment was wordier than a Roy Thomas comic .

I recently found quite a few 1980s era Marvel What If books at an estate sale. My favorite so far are the Conan titles, but I'm a big Conan fan in general.

This series ran hot-lukewarm, and cold,in both story and art.Dave Cocrum did the layout I believe for the thor cover, and wrote on it"What if thor had tits? "Offending Kirbys wife.
For Spider-Man and the Fantastic 4 also already happened because he stepped in for Jonny Storm when he "died". I think there's also another universe where Peter is both the leader and married to Sue.
Don Glut is a great writer ... I do not think he gets enough fan attention.
I remember reading the synopsis of a what if. What if Frank Castle's family didn't die in central park, well they'd just die somewhere else.

I'd love to see this as an omnibus collection. Some were a bit hit & miss(e.g.What if? pheonix had not died.), as well but neverless, a great series.

This could be an interesting topic. Throw another one or two of them against the wall, and see if they stick with your audience!
I'm not sure, but maybe you should do something so that they are not confused with the "First Appearances"-videos you also doing. Just a thought!
What if? back issues got me into comics
Best thing is these back issues won't rape your wallet and can be found in really good condition, unlike most back issues.

I enjoy the idea of reexamining a book's first year or so, but I would've appreciated a little more depth and detail with each issue. I realize that for this particular series, that would've likely been a bit too prone to spoilers, thus ruining the book's central appeal (the surprise of the ramifications for changing one detail of the original universe). Still, these reviews were extremely repetitive as a result, which got a tad annoying to me after a while. "You know what happened in regular continuity? Here's the divergent point for this issue. Now go read it to see what happens." That's fine enough, I suppose, but doesn't leave much room for a whole lot of introspection or discussion.
I have been called out for this. I didn't want to spoil the experience, but apparently it would be better going forward if i just announce spoiler warnings and go for it
