Hi, can I ask how do hydrophobic substances pass through the hydrophilic part of phosphate group? many thanks 😊 since hydrophobic substances can pass through the cells surface membrane
Thanks, Zipporah! Glad you thought it was helpful; I feel like "short and informative" is the best combo!! Sending love and best wishes from Boston! -BOGO

Sorry! I get a lot of comments asking for me to slow down or speed up; I can never seem to make everyone happy!! Definitely try making use of the pause button, or the little gear icon to slow the video down to 75%. Hope that helps! Love, BOGO
@@mackenziecook8855 Ok. In that case, watch the first 50 seconds of the video twice. Then write back and ask me a question (literally any question) about what you saw and we'll go from there. Love, BOGO
there are a number of issues I have with this video but one of the more flagrant is that the cholesterol is not where it belongs...it does not sit on the outer or inner surfaces...
Sorry you feel that way, Peter. Please note that this video does NOT show cholesterol "sitting on the surface" of the membrane; it shows the molecule as being integrated into the membrane. You may have mis-read the key and confused peripheral proteins (e.g. cytochrome c) with cholesterol. Below are three of the sources that I used to construct the diagrams in this video; they all show that the cholesterol is integrated into the cell membrane, as does this video. I also used the classic Campbell and Reese hard copy text as a reference, which shows a very similar structural setup, though in a different color scheme. Definitely consult the linked resources below, and if you have other specific grievances feel free to reach out. -BOGO en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fluid_mosaic_model www.khanacademy.org/science/ap-biology/cell-structure-and-function/membrane-permeability/a/fluid-mosaic-model-cell-membranes-article biology.stackexchange.com/questions/36177/why-dont-our-cells-merge-when-their-phospholipid-membranes-touch-each-other

Wait I don’t get something why the carrier protein let that cell pass ? They said no before cuz they only accept ATP ??
