linux/bsd has been the most fun using a computer i've had. the journey had me learn about computers, low level, built apps for my own use, learned soldering, etc.
I'm having a real good time, been using Linux since I was 9 when I started out with Mint. Throughout my years on this journey, I've gone through pretty much every major distribution; spending lots of time on Debian, wasting hours ricing an Arch install, painfully trying to make Ubuntu less painful and so much more... And yes, I have to say it was a lot of fun! Never really looked at it this way, but you made me realize why I keep using Linux on and on and on.
Exactly this man, linux is just a blast to use. And there's so much cool stuff on the horizon right now with plasma 6 and COSMIC in the works. It's just so nice to be able to make your computer work exactly how you want it to, and to be part of a community that has that same goal. Great video, I'm excited to see what you put out in the future.
man, I really don't know what to say, your channel is simply amazing. I discovered it yesterday and i've watched almost all the videos and begin making my own linux deamon, thanks a lot❤
To be honest yeah, I moved to linux because since windows 7 died I said I was going to make the move the never did. Now that windows 10 support is ending imminently I thought I would make the jump before I had to. In the end its, I either struggle with windows or I struggle with linux. Atleast if I struggle with linux I actually learn something that will probably come in handy later on. I like linux because as you say its the same as physically building the pc just on the inside. I like that I can tinker with basically everything and make MY pc do what I want it to rather than the other way around. Linux is a tool and windows Is a chore is the final line.
Honestly my standard answer to this question is that I use Linux because I want control. With linux I know that I can do almost anything I want with almost no constraints whatsoever. I need to automate something? In less than five minutes I can have a C program for that. I need a wrapper? A couple of lines of bash. I don't want to use a mouse? There's i3. The possibilities are endless, and you can customize your system however you want, tailoring it to your needs. But after this video I realized that I also use Linux for fun. I find writing code, modifying configs and tinkering with the command line extremely fun, and I'm really passionate about that. I use Arch 'cause it's fun, because every installation I do following the guide, every problem I search the solution for, every time that something fails to run at the first time, I learn something new, I find another rabbit hole to dive in and learn, learn, learn, to gain more knowledge. I love Linux, with all of my heart. Thank you for making me realize this
I use linux because I can fit it in 50Megs of RAM if I really want to, and when I monitor the notwork literally not a single packet goes in or out without me causing it.
I used to ramble about windows being bad because it's the reason i went on linux but now i tell them that i'm just addicted i3 and my terminal workflow. That's it, it's just what i love using.
My first experience with Linux based OS was in late 2012 doing the Android tweaking. I kinda tried using it at my home but later in school we were given new PCs with Suse. But, since 2015 it's my main goto OS. I just can't use Windows it's always confusing to me but the worst part was when I was doing job I did testing on Windows OS new build release.
@@hoff._world Yeah. I was lucky enough that I studied in the India's Central Govt. school Kendriya Vidyalaya They provided anything that any child needs.
I arrived at your video through the reaction video of "Dark1 Linux, Tech, Gaming". I am using Manjaro and I need a desktop environment that supports my creativity, let me choose the global folder design, symbol design, mouse pointer desing. I need an desktop environment that offers a gigantic amount of options for the previous mentioned area and I need a desktop environment that let me customize and design the desktop experience with 0 - 4 panels, quick starter, widgets and more. Yes, I am running Manjaro with KDE Plasma. Non other desktop environment would fit my personal needs.
That's the problem I have with linux, I was so distracted with trying to customize everything, I never got any work done. In the end, I just installed GNOME and never touched anything ever again
3mins in, my main reason is the fact that every single file in the system is tracked by the package manager, which I can use to easily to get the software I need, especially with the AUR, my other reason is the culture of openness and simplicity
i have the same reasons for linux, i always get excited when a new release for a desktop environment is coming out or a specific package update for drivers come out that introduce new features and improves on what is already there. iv been especially excited reading system 76 blog posts for the cosmic rust desktop as i want to use it and i have been using it in its very alpha epoch version. same goes for proton development, when i see a game that doesnt work or has little issues and those issues get fixed within days or even hours, it is truly crazy how fast the linux world moves unlike windows but even then if you dont want to move so fast you can use distros like debian, ubuntu lts, zorin etc. good video :)
I had a computer shop and I built more than a hundred computers. Still doing for me and my family. I also enjoy Linux because it just works, it's limitless and I can do anything I want
this is really what it feels like. I saw Windows 11 and just wanted to leave 10 so bad. Once I got to it, I stayed cause it was way more comfortable. If I need new software, it's a trip to a man page or flathub to see what's there and if it's any good even before loading it on my system. I have fun with it, because I can easily customize what would otherwise not be allowed on Windows due to its structure being completely locked down.
I started using linux in early 2023, started with mint used it for a month or two. Then went to arch linux gnome now I'm on arch with sway and loving it. Personally I love linux for being able to customization, the community is nice, & overall like you said its fun to work with in the end
linux is geared towards people who program, highly value privacy, people who just wanna customize their os. but in 2024, no excuse to not try it out. proton supports 99% of "muh gaemes" that windows users play. distros like mint, manjaro, all these ubuntu based distros "just work". no need to install void arch artix or gentoo to begin with. no excuse to hate on linux in this day and age.
90% of pc users don't even know what the bios is, so it just won't happen, unless manifacturers also provide linux as the default OS Rn if you step in a tech store, you find only windows or mac. Linux pc are so fucking rare, and if your cpu or gpu aren't intel you may get some problems (yes, amd also sucks at times)
Majority of people still play multiplayer games and most of them can only run on Windows because of anti-cheat. Additionally, why would they switch if they're not getting inconvenienced? The common use cases for Windows work 99% of the time and they're used to that already, there's 0 reason to switch.

Been using it for a long time, break my configs a lot and honestly of it wasn't for that I problably would't be using it, I like to open stuff and see how it works, hell even hardcoded vrr values for a monitor so I can play retro games at the right refresh rate. It just what makes me happy
Really love the PC building yin yang analogy. Never thought of it like that. Also, how did you get to a point where you would take on tier 3 surf maps? I still struggle on tier 1-2s...
Here are my reasons for using Linux: 1. I like customizing it and making it look really nice - better than Windows or macOS. 2. I don't have to deal with the telemetry that macOS and Windows collect. 3. Biggest reason - Virtualization. Highly customizable virtual machines with QEMU, where if I need games or software that don't work on Linux, I just use a VM. I love patching my kernel and QEMU to cloak VMs and trick software like anticheats into running on my virtual machines. I also like being able to quickly spin up a VM so i can use software that I don't feel comfortable running on my main PC, like lockdown browser for school (In this case I also need windows on the VM otherwise it wont even work lol)
I came to Linux for cost reasons, I wasn't able to afford Microsoft prices, but stayed for similar reasons, I simply enjoy using Linux, the way it adapts to my needs, and doesn't push garbage on me I don't need.
If someone takes critique of the product they use as a personal attack, is their problem. It's completely valid to use Linux because of the things that Windows does wrong. I'm of the opinion all available OSes are bad, but Linux just happens to be the least bad.
You bring up a good point. I've not yet made the swap to using Linux as a daily driver, and all of the justifications I tell myself are about Windows and its' shortcomings rather than Linux and its' strengths. Despite that, I know Linux's strengths. Here's to hoping I can make the swap one fateful day. I will probably become an Arch user btw.
if you're really observant you can see at 12:25 in my Daemon video I pull up a custom command line shell I wrote that talks to another custom daemon over a network socket :) Maybe I will show it off one day

Remember, redditors tend to have very milquetoast, FOMO based taste in things, so therefore linux is unviable for them because FOMO games (call of duty, fortnite, etc.) have anticheat that doesn't work. It's their choice to not put up with that. I do think it's funny however that some will get annoyed that people will aggressively mention they use linux when it's the same as talking about anything else one is earnestly passionate about and genuinely loves, and they've almost certainly done something like that at one point with one of their own passions. As for me, I need no further justification to use linux other than "Because it makes me happy and does the things I personally want it to do in a way that windows is just not doing for me right now."
Bro you need to start strafing a bit more when you jump to the ramp / from ramp to ramp, you're missing out on extra speed pretty much, and you should try to surf the skirt of the ramp more. But man, I share your feeling for this. Linux feels fun to use, it's like I can mess around the OS and do stuff without really being held back. Sure, there are problems like companies not supporting it, fragmentation, yada yada, but it's just fun mannnnnnnn idk
if you buy an AMD GPU then there is no reason not to use linux other than needing to play games from malicious anti-linux companies, because the AMD GPU graphics driver for linux is literally better than the one for windows.
That's because you forgot to disable fast. Start up in windows as well as the quiet. Similarly, named so called feature in your u v f I bios, which has a nasty habit of locking on to specific hardware, often preventing the computer from shutting down and giving full resources access to that hardware which can include the graphics. Also, you may wanna check some settings in steam. Because my c s go performs exactly the same in linux, mint cinnamon 21..2. As it did and windows ten And yes using the exact same computer
I would love to use Linux, but sadly i have components that won't work well on linux (Thrustmaster T300 Wheel and Fanatec Pedals also a quest 2). Btw KDE Plasma is awesome. My go-to DE since the 2010's. I think about picking up a Steam Deck OLED later this year, to get my Linux fix. I already put Proxmox on my old gaming pc for learning how to utulize it properly
yeah that's always an issue unfortunately. Steam deck seems really neat, I'm not much of a mobile gamer so doesn't overly appeal to me but I have heard very good things.

It’s true, I started using Linux because there were things I didn’t like and that didn’t work for me on Windows. Unfortunately, I can’t say I’m having fun on Linux or that I enjoy computing. I feel like I traded one set of problems for another and while I’m better off it’s still daily frustrations. Many of them stem from Nvidia, but some of the programs I use require CUDA so it’s not something I can fix by going AMD.
You should have two systems - Windows with Intel and NVIDIA (pick the CPU with the best single core performance). And AMD with some high core count CPU. Switch between them with KVM. You will have the best of both worlds.
My reasons are privacy security and customization hugely because it's open source. I get to pick my components. Do I want this init system, this desktop environment is this much security enough? Or do I need more? Do I want to send hardware diagnostic data? Mainly because i love the open source community people do so much cool stuff with linux there's a linux distro for privacy security gaming and a lot of other use cases when i started using linux i was using it for privacy and security something a closed source operating system could never give me but now i also value my choice before i was just an ubuntu use that went went the default now i take time to configure my linux distro the way i want it how i want it And contrary to popular belief linux actually has great software availability just because linux is not supported natively doesn't mean you can't run it through a translation layer or a container or a virtual machine with native performance and sometimes the performance is actually better than windows/mac host I enjoy linux its great and i will never switch to anything else tried Using Mac Os and Bsd still haven't changed my mind at all Linux is truly the best
I use Linux 'cose it is: - it is more fun - stable and fast - customization - easy app install and updating them - grate/easy env to use/setup for coding stuff
The main reason I use Linux is because I can run it on old hardware. Keep that technology out of the landfills. Another reason I use it is because it's just plain simple it gets out of my way and lets me do what I need to do.
people suggest proton which is great for a lot of titles, but i think the best solution for video gaming "on linux" is to set up a Windows VM through KVM and to set up gpu passthrough so you aren't using a virtual gpu
phew, for a second there i thought the reason was because you were a massive linux nerd. then you booted up a surf map while claiming linux was fun and all my fears were alleviated.
I use windows purely so i could still play fortnite or whatever other game my friends want to play. its very annoying not knowing exactly how everything in ,y computer works and feeling like I'm not in charge of the OS. Btw seeing you repeatedly fail in the game was quite frustrating
Hey bro i am new to linux can you give me some tips how can i. Get better at linux. I switched to linux fully in jan without any dual boot but idk why my friends keeps saying that in your job they are not gooing to give you linux you have to work on windows so dont switch keep windows dont go on linux uninstall linux
Your friends are bullshiting They indeed don't give you linux pc because they give you what's more popular. You can always install linux on a usb stick and boot there instead of windows if you are going in-person. (talk with supervisors if in doubt). And if you are going remote, you can use whatever you want.
@@brdevll well somethimes you just can't use linux while working because you might need an app that is not compatible with linux. but at home you can use whatever you want to use. i mean if you start using linux you will not forget how to use windows so there is no point on unistalling linux on your home machine just because at work you use windows.
> no linux at work But that depends on the job though. Normies don't know this but linux is pretty common in some areas (why do you think it's even relevant as an OS at all). Many VFX studios use linux on their workstations, and most webservers run linux. Also commonly used in scientific computing. If you work in those areas there's a decent chance you'll work with linux computers
TL;DR Im agreeing with you about "it isn't wondows" being a bad way to convert people and list out why I do. the issue I have with the "it isn't wondows" response is for one, the dev tooling is better on windows[1] I also feel that [as to purely criticize that as an augment] it misses a chance to educate on things keeping people from switching. I for one would be more likely to switch if I knew that there was a good IDE[2] that was free.[3] IDK what you expected from PC master race, PCMR is about gaming and Linux gamming is notoriously bad[4] [1]CL is significantly better than its "free" counterparts, and the community ed. of VS is free.[1.1] [1.1] plus I can do Linux dev on windows I cannot do [true[1.1.1]] windows dev on Linux [1.1.1] wine/proton is not windows dev it is windows *like* development. [2]though I would say VSC and Vim are good development environments, VS allows for me to just start a project and run it and when I do need to link a library it has a GUI for changing project settings, last I checked VSC didn't do that[2.1][2.2] [2.1] I am very ignorant of things vim side though so one of the vim derivatives could do what I want. [2.2] I also don't like that VSC is a webapp... [3] the reason that I bring this up is because if they said "this is the IDE I use here's a link to it" instead of "it isn't wondows" that may get me to switch... [3.1] [3.1] unlikely as I need Nvidia GPUs for work but it may.. [4]I know about Valve's proton its still only 4-5 years old its going to take time for it to overtake the literal decades of bad support on the part of Unix like operating systems.. WINE is a non starter as far as gamming goes. [1.1]
I have fun with windows as well truth be told. The amount of professional software available to windows that you can use to learn specific skills does not exist on Linux. Plus recording music is much more fluent and less complex, no reason to mess around with wine, pipewire and jack just to get a single virtual instrument to work lmao. But linux can be fun as well depending on what you are doing, i just dont find setting up i3wm or messing with obscure arch depository programs fun anymore. But linux has its uses. Also w11 is fine? Its not slow at all on my hardware, and i enjoy the fact that i can also run any single game out there without resorting to Wine or Lutris. The problem also when it comes to ''building a pc'' and using Linux is not having the proper software available for your hardware like GPU (adrenaline amd or nvidia software) , your mouse, your keyboard, your headset, your rgb fans, etc etc etc. Sure there is FOSS software available for some of that, but its not the same.I built my own pc from scratch, so i know what im talking about. Also if you are a musician, digital artist etc etc, there is just no comparison. I don't have to opt out of specific hardware just so i can have something compatible with ''linux'', i can buy the thing i want and actually have it working seamlessly in less than 5 minutes just by downloading its driver from the official website of the manufacturer, so there is your answer about ''why would anyone not use linux if they built their own pc''. Lmao
And that's fair enough, like I say in the video the reasons are personal and they differ from person to person. My reason is that I find it enjoyable, and there's no requirement for you to enjoy the same things I enjoy or vice versa. When you build a PC you can make concious choices to pick hardware that will work well for your target platform. I got my start in computers with the Hackintosh scene, so I know all about targeting your hardware around the software you intend to run. If you have an existing machine, that becomes more tricky but look to be honest RGB lighting for me personally is quite low on the stack of things that are important to me. I didn't say "why would anyone not use linux if they built their own pc" I was talking about those that don't understand why anyone would want to use linux, when they had built a PC and done the same thing in hardware linux users do in software. I say in the video some people are interested in one or the other and that's totally fine.
@@hoff._world oh dont get me wrong. rgb lighting is also very low haha. but my headset, keyboard, mouse, digital drawing tablet, souncard, microphones etc all have specific software that only is available on windows or doesnt work too well on linux. i have used linux on this main work rig before, its just not worht the hassle as a less stress and seamless experience is more preferrable when doing serious work. i also owned an m1 macbook and a variety of thinkpads and lenovo laptops, and im planning on building another beastly rig only running linux, something like Ubuntu Studio or Fedora. I enjoy all OS for their respective pros, but they all have their cons as well.
And that's all absolutely fair. It is a shame that more hardware manufacturers don't give linux the support it deserves. Everybody's needs are different, and the PC building world in of itself is great for letting you craft it to your needs :)

Idk if it would do anything but try pipewire instead. It's fully backwards compatible with pulse, and I rarely have problems with it. That being said, getting it on Linux Mint is a bit obnoxious because you need to add the PPA and whatnot.
It's true, and I have a windows VM where I have that installed on the chance that I need to use it. However if you need it on a daily basis it becomes more annoying

I love this topic. Due you have some crazy subjective arguments. I like Linux, due it makes problems for me and it breaks easy. I think its fun to solve issues. Linux is full of issues. I Dualboot. so im not a fan boy of windows or linux. I take em for what they are. Its like the first as you said in the video, windows comes with this and that.. Is more heavy blablabla.. For avrage user yes. For a guy like me, no. I have been into the IT world working professionaly with hardware and licenced technician for both Window and Apple, over to white hat hacker for Siemens. It comes down of your experience of the system. I can run windows 11 on 40 processes, with no bloat, telemetry or anything, like a Linux tinfoil hat user would scream about. The process is done in under less then a minutte, surpassing most linux systems. But that is me. Not for the avrage user. The avrage user dont know what the filesystems even does, even some of the hardcore linux fans. Linux fans also a a strange creature. They live in the past. Linux today, is not Linux 2 years ago. Same with the filesystem or desktop, nor gaming.. You name it. I have been into a an insane deepdive of the system since october, until now. I can tell you as much. It does not matter what system you use. It comes down to what you enjoy, and your experience so you enjoy what you use. Windows and Linux is not that different anymore, like it was 20 years ago, when i was using Linux. I had to forget everything I knew about em both, to settle the discussion of what is better. I know what is better today, that is not something that migth not be valide in 6-12 months. That is why both sides need to look hard em self, before they speak. It comes down to what you enjoy. If you are like me.. Get a RTX 4090, then boot wayland. That is fun for me. Not so fun for the rest. Then you have the talk. Oooh linux is faster. Is it? That has also changed. That is due the filesystems, and what they do. So if you have the fastests linux, it might not be, due the filesystem you installed, or the bootlaoder. Or the hardware you are running, over to the kernel changes. So many things to discover right now, its not as what you think! :) I have had close to 1200 sweat linux users hammering me now for 4 months. I did shut em down, with how things work. Same with windows users. I have had so many stupid discussions, like it sounds like we are still wondering if the earth is flat in IT talk. Another favorite topic is, "It works on Linux". But the fact is, does it work good? That is usally not the fact in many cases.. But it works. Does it work as it would in windows? Many times, ive heard this. Then i have tested it. Then looked at it, and been wondering.. What is this? It reminds me of a 4 year old daughters drawing of a horse. It looks nice... but.. you still wonder what that baloon with 4 lines are and teeth. Gamers on linux are the same. Lets speak of proton. I was on proton DB, and they say.. It works straight out of the box. ok, this was a later title called Palworld, so i booted it up first in Windows. 4k 100- 150 fps no issues, Then linux.. 60-78 fps with small spikes, and fps drops down to 30 fps. That is what a linux user say, works straight out of the box. Done 45 installs cross most distros on intel, intel ark, amd, radion and nvidia. Oooh it can be so different in experience. But damn, Linux has come a long way, since Valve came with the steam deck.. Gaming is MUCH better. It has the potential of surpassing windows. Problem is Open Source, and the linux devs. Lets look at Nvidia latest drivers. They have kinda fixed the problem in wayland. But wayland is not fixed. Then you Nvidia that dont give the open source driver. See the problem.. Then yes.. as I said, the dev.. They where like ready to fix things 3 years ago. Have they done it? nope.. So it will allways be this issue.
There is something you can easily improve on for your videos, sound. No offense but your sound is horrid, but worry not for it is easy to fix, install easy-effects and apply RNNoise to your microphone and then use the Easy Effects Source for capturing and enjoy much cleaner mic audio
To call Linux fun is to say you enjoy studying. Linux as a light hobby to dip in and out of now and then is one thing but to have to daily drive it must be infuriating. When you're told (like you) that you can do anything, that you can tweak things around the hardware you chose. And then to find out that actually the hardware is incompatible or poorly supported, or lacks nuanced features or is hard to set up to do more advanced things. And then to find out that actually everyone just admits to ending up using Mate because it just works and it's easier. And then to find out that you really are on your own and finding out the hard way of copy pasting arbitrary commands you found online is really not the answer and that Windows FIXES ITSELF. So yes, Linux is fun. If you're someone who thinks making their own daemon from scratch for no reason at all is "fun".
Reality check for you The Linux of today is not the same as Linux of even ten years ago, led alone twenty. Only very few use case scenarios require that you dig deep and learn the branches.
Well put my friend
@@hoff._world cheers mate!
Thank you for making me realize this
100% agree with this. Finding linux fun??? Maybe we're just quirky and random huh
@@hoff._world Maybe. But what's important is that we are happy this way
Control, extensability, and community
Community aspect is underrated imo good note
Your school gave you Linux machines? That's actually pretty cool, we just got stuck with Win8

Non other desktop environment would fit my personal needs.
my main reason is rolling distros, i do AI stuff and having to install a new 5GB docker every 2 days is absolutely cancer
And C tutorials man 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
That's the problem I have with linux, I was so distracted with trying to customize everything, I never got any work done. In the end, I just installed GNOME and never touched anything ever again
A blessing and a curse of Linux, for sure

Very well said
Thank you!
this is really what it feels like.
Great channel man, keep it up im subbed.
You got it boss 🫡
linux is geared towards people who program, highly value privacy, people who just wanna customize their os. but in 2024, no excuse to not try it out. proton supports 99% of "muh gaemes" that windows users play. distros like mint, manjaro, all these ubuntu based distros "just work". no need to install void arch artix or gentoo to begin with. no excuse to hate on linux in this day and age.
90% of pc users don't even know what the bios is, so it just won't happen, unless manifacturers also provide linux as the default OS
Rn if you step in a tech store, you find only windows or mac.

Bro im not good at surf u should ask @Ozzymand for advice
Here are my reasons for using Linux:
I’ve started watching and literally first thing I did, I thought “it’s about fun isn’t it?” 😂
Couldn’t agree more
I came to Linux for cost reasons, I wasn't able to afford Microsoft prices, but stayed for similar reasons, I simply enjoy using Linux, the way it adapts to my needs, and doesn't push garbage on me I don't need.

It's completely valid to use Linux because of the things that Windows does wrong. I'm of the opinion all available OSes are bad, but Linux just happens to be the least bad.

yes but it turns off people like me who would switch but aren't knowledgeable enough to know what they're doing.

Btw what are you studying?
@mailoisback has a stupidly long title: Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Electrical and Computer) and Bachelor of Computer Science (Cybersecurity). I'm in my 5th year.
As for me, I need no further justification to use linux other than "Because it makes me happy and does the things I personally want it to do in a way that windows is just not doing for me right now."
true, the platform lends itself to that behaviour ig
Bro you need to start strafing a bit more when you jump to the ramp / from ramp to ramp, you're missing out on extra speed pretty much, and you should try to surf the skirt of the ramp more.
But man, I share your feeling for this. Linux feels fun to use, it's like I can mess around the OS and do stuff without really being held back. Sure, there are problems like companies not supporting it, fragmentation, yada yada, but it's just fun mannnnnnnn idk
I was good on global offensive I swear
thanks for the tips king, surfs up :)
if you buy an AMD GPU then there is no reason not to use linux other than needing to play games from malicious anti-linux companies, because the AMD GPU graphics driver for linux is literally better than the one for windows.

at the moment I use linux about 98% of the time, but I get horrible performance in cs on linux which forces me to dualboot😢

cs2 on wayland is kinda busted for me atm using X11 with it is much smoother
That's because you forgot to disable fast. Start up in windows as well as the quiet. Similarly, named so called feature in your u v f I bios, which has a nasty habit of locking on to specific hardware, often preventing the computer from shutting down and giving full resources access to that hardware which can include the graphics.
Also, you may wanna check some settings in steam. Because my c s go performs exactly the same in linux, mint cinnamon 21..2. As it did and windows ten
And yes using the exact same computer

It’s true, I started using Linux because there were things I didn’t like and that didn’t work for me on Windows. Unfortunately, I can’t say I’m having fun on Linux or that I enjoy computing. I feel like I traded one set of problems for another and while I’m better off it’s still daily frustrations. Many of them stem from Nvidia, but some of the programs I use require CUDA so it’s not something I can fix by going AMD.
That is unfortunate. It seems to be more or less NV's attitude towards the platform that creates such a poor experience which is sad
You should have two systems - Windows with Intel and NVIDIA (pick the CPU with the best single core performance). And AMD with some high core count CPU. Switch between them with KVM. You will have the best of both worlds.
I have been using EndeavourOS and I have an nvidia card, so far everything is working great out of the box with the proprietary drivers.
i don't get ppl putting all that love and effort into their pc hardware and then hand it over to microsoft to manage it for them
Major soy behaviour
I just came for a 2016 cs surf video
Didn't we all? How good hey
good points 👍
My reasons are privacy security and customization hugely because it's open source. I get to pick my components. Do I want this init system, this desktop environment is this much security enough? Or do I need more? Do I want to send hardware diagnostic data? Mainly because i love the open source community people do so much cool stuff with linux there's a linux distro for privacy security gaming and a lot of other use cases when i started using linux i was using it for privacy and security something a closed source operating system could never give me but now i also value my choice before i was just an ubuntu use that went went the default now i take time to configure my linux distro the way i want it how i want it And contrary to popular belief linux actually has great software availability just because linux is not supported natively doesn't mean you can't run it through a translation layer or a container or a virtual machine with native performance and sometimes the performance is actually better than windows/mac host I enjoy linux its great and i will never switch to anything else tried Using Mac Os and Bsd still haven't changed my mind at all Linux is truly the best
agree completely with you my friend. Very well said.
Which distro are you using bro?
Artix (OpenRC) with KDE Plasma, wouldn't recommend it unless u know what ur doing and actually want to use a non-systemd distro for non-meme reasons

- customization
- easy app install and updating them

You can always install linux on a usb stick and boot there instead of windows if you are going in-person. (talk with supervisors if in doubt).
And if you are going remote, you can use whatever you want.
@@brdevll well somethimes you just can't use linux while working because you might need an app that is not compatible with linux.
but at home you can use whatever you want to use. i mean if you start using linux you will not forget how to use windows so there is no point on unistalling linux on your home machine just because at work you use windows.
> no linux at work
But that depends on the job though. Normies don't know this but linux is pretty common in some areas (why do you think it's even relevant as an OS at all). Many VFX studios use linux on their workstations, and most webservers run linux. Also commonly used in scientific computing. If you work in those areas there's a decent chance you'll work with linux computers
At my current job part of it was working on a UWP Windows app in C# that leverages the native windows bluetooth LE stack, I do it all on QEMU/KVM lmao
Why you use KDE ?
cause its good
KDE Plasma is amazing :)
TL;DR Im agreeing with you about "it isn't wondows" being a bad way to convert people and list out why I do.
the issue I have with the "it isn't wondows" response is
for one, the dev tooling is better on windows[1] I also feel that [as to purely criticize that as an augment] it misses a chance to educate on things keeping people from switching.
I for one would be more likely to switch if I knew that there was a good IDE[2] that was free.[3]
IDK what you expected from PC master race, PCMR is about gaming and Linux gamming is notoriously bad[4]
[1]CL is significantly better than its "free" counterparts, and the community ed. of VS is free.[1.1]
[1.1] plus I can do Linux dev on windows I cannot do [true[1.1.1]] windows dev on Linux
[1.1.1] wine/proton is not windows dev it is windows *like* development.
[2]though I would say VSC and Vim are good development environments, VS allows for me to just start a project and run it and when I do need to link a library it has a GUI for changing project settings, last I checked VSC didn't do that[2.1][2.2]
[2.1] I am very ignorant of things vim side though so one of the vim derivatives could do what I want.
[2.2] I also don't like that VSC is a webapp...
[3] the reason that I bring this up is because if they said "this is the IDE I use here's a link to it" instead of "it isn't wondows" that may get me to switch... [3.1]
[3.1] unlikely as I need Nvidia GPUs for work but it may..

Yes indeed! It's all part of crafting your experience
windows has workspacer now, been using it cuz im forced to use windows on my work laptop, pretty neat if you're ever in the same situation, pretty much awesomewm for windows
I have had close to 1200 sweat linux users hammering me now for 4 months.
Why not FreeBSD. It's more secure.
cause I gotta surf. FreeBSD runs on my server :)

:P
dude
Lol
Lmao, even
great new copypasta just dropped
Reality check for you
The Linux of today is not the same as Linux of even ten years ago, led alone twenty.
Only very few use case scenarios require that you dig deep and learn the branches. The limbs the leaves everything about the tree of bash scripting command ocean
Mint Cinnamaon even 7 years ago let alone today has Maybe possible for a basic windows. User who is barely even learned how to use mondays to switch to linux
